The importance of television rights in modern football

Television rights have become one of the most important sources of income in modern football. And if you enjoy modern football, making the 1xBet লগইন Bangladesh procedure will also allow you to access the best bets on this sport.

Clubs and leagues no longer depend only on ticket sales, sponsorships and merchandise. By selling the rights to broadcast matches, competitions can reach millions of viewers around the world while generating significant revenue for the football industry. Making a লগইন into 1xBet Bangladesh is also the best way for betting on football matches played across the world.

A clear example is LALIGA in Spain. The league states that its audiovisual rights are worth close to €2 billion per season in the current cycle and represent more than 60% of revenue for the majority of its clubs. This money is distributed according to established criteria, including sporting performance and social reach. This system means that broadcasting revenue can directly influence clubs' ability to invest in 3 elements:

• players;
• infrastructure;
• and youth development.

The Premier League provides another example of the importance of collective television rights. Its live audiovisual rights are sold collectively rather than individually by clubs, through regulated auctions. For the 2025/26 season, matches in the United Kingdom are broadcast live by Sky Sports and TNT Sports, while BBC Sport holds the free-to-air highlights rights. Domestic broadcast revenue is distributed among clubs according to a defined formula.

Highly valuable assets

Television rights are also crucial at European level. UEFA reported that its men's club competitions generated €4.4 billion in revenue during the 2024/25 season. Of the €4.414 billion in gross revenue from the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and Super Cup, €3.3 billion was distributed to participating clubs, while €440 million went to solidarity payments for clubs outside the main stages of the competitions.

The importance of broadcasting therefore extends beyond the biggest clubs. Television income can support the wider football pyramid, including lower divisions, grassroots programmes and community projects.

However, dependence on television revenue also creates challenges. Clubs can become financially vulnerable if broadcast values fall, audiences change or viewers move from traditional television to streaming platforms. At the same time, broadcasters increasingly expect attractive competitions, convenient scheduling and global audiences.
