Mozambique is guaranteed to be among the four best third-placed groups and thus reach the round of 16 of the African Cup for the first time in its history. The Mambas, however, started off falling against Ivory Coast 1-0 before achieving a big blow against Gabon, winning 2-3, thus achieving the first victory in their history in the African Cup of Nations. A modest selection on the continent, Mozambique has not done well in its preparation for the tournament in recent weeks, during friendly matches played against Morocco defeated 1-0, Chad 2-2 and Angola defeated 4-1. Winner at the opening of Gabon 1-0 and held in check by Ivory Coast 1-1, Cameroon is virtually in control of group F and will see the round of 16.

The five-time winner of the competition, the last time in 2017, was expected to turn the corner, his coach Marc Brys having been sacked just before CAN 2025. Residents of Portuguese D1 Witi (Nacional, 4 goals in 43 caps) and Catamo (Sporting, 41 caps, 13 goals) are the other players to play/have played at the highest level on a daily basis. The latter participated in the victory against Gabon by converting a penalty. Cameroon closes the group stage without its senior piston Tchamadeu (Stoke City, 7 sel), suspended for accumulation of yellow cards.

An additional absence to take into account in addition to those of Choupo-Moting (New York Red Bulls) and Anguissa (Napoli), whose injury prevents them from competing in the competition. The veteran Aboubakar (Neftçi) who had the heyday of the Indomitable Lions, Ngamaleu (Dynamo Moscow), Hongla (Granada), Ngadeu-Ngadjui (Beijing Guoan), Tchatchoua (Wolverhampton) and Andre Onana (Trabzonspor) were not selected by choice. Mbeumo (Manchester United, 7 goals in 29 seasons) is one of the team's safe bets but has not yet scored in this CAN.
