World Cup - Qatar 2022 Host stadium

In view of the 2022 FIFA World Cup matches, Qatar has launched several infrastructure projects that include the construction of seven new match stadiums and the radical renovation of an eighth facility. These eight stadiums will be distributed nationwide and will be a maximum of one hour away from the capital Doha.

For the first time in the history of the World Cup, the facilities will be equipped with sophisticated air conditioning systems to combat the sweltering Qatari summer heat, which often exceeds 50° C. Building all eight World Cup stadiums before the tournament started was and is a race against time and fans around the world can't wait to find out the details of each venue.
Qatar will have 9 new stadiums and renovate current 3 stadiums. With a total of 12 statdiums that will be in 7 different host cities. The Host cities are Doha , Al-Khor, Al-Rayyan, Al-Daayen, Al-Wakrah, Umm Slal and Al-Shamal.
The Qatar organisers said that the stadiums will be fully climate controlled and with zero-carbon emitting. Normally the Fifa world cup is held in Europe off-season when there are no country leagues nor Champions league / Europa League - in June and July. The only problem is that Qatar temperature in June and July will be more than 50° C The Idea is to play in November and not in mid summer, Even tough it is still high temperature.

So the stadiums will take certain measures to reduce heat from solar radiation and warm winds. Apart that the satdiums will be equipped with soft air conditioning to provide better temperature conditions. This will be the first time that the stadiums will be equipped with these measures.

Khalifa International Stadium

Khalifa International Stadium is the only stadium in Qatar where the 2022 World Cup matches will be held that was not built from scratch for the event. Opened in 1976, it is the most representative arena in the country and, by local standards, it is a true antiquity. After a major refurbishment, it reopened in 2017 and will host matches up to the quarter-finals and can hold up to 40,000 spectators. The state-of-the-art cooling technologies, which will guarantee ideal temperatures for athletes and spectators, and the surprising architecture, with the double-arched external structure, make this stadium a symbol of modernity.

The Khalifa International Stadium is located in the heart of the Aspire Zone of Doha, an area of great technological development and innovation destined to be the reference point for fans visiting the city on the occasion of the World Cup.

Al-Bayt Stadium

The Al-Bayt Stadium is located in the city of Al-Khor and is the designated venue for the semi-finals of the 2022 Soccer World Cup. The structure boasts an impressive architecture inspired by the tents of the Bedouins, the nomadic people who live in Arab countries from millennia.

The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 seats and, once construction is complete, it will be part of a larger complex including all the necessary services, such as shopping centers, a hospital and much more. As it is located 60 km from Doha, it will be one of the least comfortable facilities for fans, who will still be able to reach it by taxi or bus.

Al-Janoub Stadium

The Al-Janoub Stadium is an arena capable of accommodating around 40,000 spectators. The impressive structure was designed by the late archistar Zaha Hadid who left her own distinctive figure: the flowing lines that have earned her the title of "queen of curves". The shape of the stadium is inspired by the hulls of the boats of the pearl fishermen who for centuries have traveled the seas of the Arabian Peninsula. The reference to tradition is also visible in the use of traditional building materials such as wood.

Al-Janoub Stadium is located in the city of Al-Wakrah, just 20 km from Doha. It will be easily accessible by fans thanks to the specially built subway line.

Education City Stadium

The Education City Stadium has a capacity of 40,000 spectators and, during the 2022 Soccer World Cup, will host matches up to the quarter-finals. It owes its name to the fact that it is located on the campus of the main university in Qatar. The exterior of the structure reproduces the facets of a diamond, which sparkle in the sunlight during the day and emit an evocative glow at night. After the World Cup, the stadium's capacity will be reduced by half and more than 20,000 seats will be donated for the construction of sports facilities in various developing countries.

The Education City Stadium is located just 7 km from the center of Doha and is therefore easily accessible by metro and public and private transport. The area is enriched by green spaces, golf courses and a very modern shopping center.

Al-Rayyan Stadium

Built on the site of the old Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Al-Rayyan Stadium has a capacity of over 40,000 spectators and will host matches up to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Al-Rayya is one of the most historic cities in Qatar. It is located on the edge of the desert and will give visitors the chance to get a glimpse of the country's deep cultural roots. The stadium is located a few kilometers from Doha and will be accessible thanks to the new metro line.

Al-Thumama Stadium

The Al-Thumama Stadium is located just 12 km from the center of Doha and, upon completion of construction, will be able to accommodate 40,000 spectators. In design it is inspired by the keffiyeh , the traditional fabric headdress worn by Arab men.

Like many of the venues built for the 2022 World Cup, Al-Thumama Stadium will halve the seats after the event and donate more than 20,000 seats to promote football and create sports halls in various developing countries. The stadium will be accessible from Doha thanks to a new metro line.

Ras Abu Aboud Stadium

The Ras Abu Aboud Stadium is located a few kilometers from Doha, along the coast of the Persian Gulf, and represents the triumph of sustainability. Built using containers and other recycled materials, after the World Cup the plant will be dismantled and reused for the construction of other projects in the country.

The stunning waterfront location will be a breath of fresh air for fans, who can reach Ras Abu Aboud's 40,000 seats from downtown Doha with a short metro ride across the bay.

Lusail Iconic Stadium

The Lusail Iconic Stadium will host none other than the opening match and final of the 2022 Soccer World Cup. Currently under construction, the arena was designed by the renowned British studio of Foster + Partners and will have a capacity of just over 86,000 seats. In design, the structure draws inspiration from the ancient techniques of Arab basketry and is destined to be a stunning location for the inauguration and closing of the event.

The stadium is located in Lusail City, north of Doha. The most surprising fact is that Lusail is an entire city planned and built specifically for the event. Between now and the 2022 World Cup, it will become home to a wide range of infrastructure and services, including private docks, island resorts, luxury shopping malls, entertainment areas and much more. The Lusail Iconic Stadium is located just 15 km from the center of Doha and will be conveniently served by a direct metro line.
