A new campaign of Premier League football has arrived. After a long-awaited return, fans are set to pack inside stadiums to full capacity for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic. To little surprise to many on the Premier League betting market, Manchester City secured their third title under Pep Guardiola and brace themselves for another intense campaign if they are to throw off Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool and newly crowned European Champions Chelsea. Plenty of clubs have been active in the transfer market, with Manchester United splashing the cash on big money deals for Jadon Sancho and Raphaël Varane, whilst the newly promoted sides have moved quietly but could still be in with a chance of causing some upsets.

The opening day brings eternal optimism, well at least until your team concede first! The slate is wiped clean and the weeks of preparation and the ongoing season can be decided by those first integral minutes. Here is how we think each game will go.

Brighton & Hove Albion return to the Amex Stadium on November 1st for a Premier League clash against Leeds United, riding a wave of mixed form. Under Fabian Hürzeler’s guidance, Brighton have shown flashes of brilliance, notably in their 3-1 away win over Chelsea and a dominant 6-0 Carabao Cup victory over Barnsley. However, recent setbacks like the 2-4 loss to Manchester United have exposed defensive vulnerabilities. Key players such as Kaoru Mitoma and Danny Welbeck are expected to feature prominently, while veterans like James Milner and Lewis Dunk continue to anchor the squad. The Seagulls’ attacking rhythm has been fluid, with Simon Adingra and Pascal Groß contributing creatively, though consistency remains elusive.

Leeds United, meanwhile, arrive with a point to prove. Their recent 2-1 win over West Ham at Elland Road was a morale booster after a string of disappointing results, including losses to Burnley and Spurs. Daniel Farke’s side has leaned heavily on the pace of Dan James and the creativity of Brenden Aaronson, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s presence up front adds a physical edge. Defensive lapses have been a recurring issue, with Ethan Ampadu and Max Wöber struggling to maintain shape under pressure. Leeds’ midfield, featuring Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara, has shown promise but lacks the bite needed to dominate possession against top-tier opposition.

Burnley, under the stewardship of Vincent Kompany, continue to grapple with the harsh realities of top-flight football. Their recent 3-1 defeat to Liverpool exposed defensive frailties, particularly in transitions and set-piece coverage. Kompany has leaned heavily on young talents like Zeki Amdouni and Luca Beyer, but inconsistency remains a concern. Injuries have also disrupted their rhythm, with key figures like Hjalmar Ekdal and Jordan Beyer nursing knocks. Turf Moor remains a fortress in spirit, but Burnley’s home form has been patchy, and the pressure is mounting to convert effort into points. The fans are restless, and Kompany’s tactical tweaks will be under scrutiny as they face a high-flying Arsenal side.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are riding a wave of momentum. Mikel Arteta’s men have been ruthless in recent outings, including a 6-0 demolition of West Ham that showcased their attacking depth. Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard continue to orchestrate play with flair, while Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard have added versatility to the forward line. The Gunners’ defense, anchored by William Saliba and Gabriel, has been resolute, conceding few chances. Arteta’s rotation policy has kept the squad fresh, and with no major injury concerns heading into the Burnley fixture, Arsenal look primed to extend their unbeaten run. Their tactical discipline and pressing game have overwhelmed lesser sides, and Burnley will need to be at their sharpest to avoid a repeat of February’s 5-0 thrashing.

Crystal Palace enter this fixture riding a wave of momentum, having gone unbeaten in their last five Premier League outings. Under Oliver Glasner’s guidance, the Eagles have transformed their early-season woes into a mid-table resurgence. Their recent 2-0 win over West Ham, powered by a Jean-Philippe Mateta brace, showcased a newfound attacking sharpness. Eberechi Eze continues to be a creative force in midfield, while defenders Marc Guéhi and Maxime Lacroix have tightened the backline. Despite missing Matheus França due to injury, Palace’s squad depth has allowed them to maintain consistency. Glasner’s tactical tweaks—especially his use of a 3-4-2-1 formation—have brought balance and clarity to the team’s structure.

Brentford, meanwhile, arrive at Selhurst Park licking their wounds from a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool. Thomas Frank’s side has been inconsistent away from home, but they remain a threat with their dynamic front three. Bryan Mbeumo, who scored a penalty in their last meeting with Palace, remains a key figure, supported by Kevin Schade and Yoane Wissa. Midfielders Vitaly Janelt and Christian Nørgaard offer grit and control, while goalkeeper Mark Flekken has been solid despite recent setbacks. Brentford’s defensive line, led by Ben Mee and Ethan Pinnock, will need to be alert against Palace’s fluid attack. Historically, Brentford have struggled at Selhurst Park, failing to win in their last seven visits.

Liverpool enter this fixture as Premier League leaders, riding a wave of momentum under Arne Slot’s stewardship. The Dutchman has quickly instilled a high-pressing, fluid attacking system that has revitalized the Reds following Jurgen Klopp’s departure . Their recent 4-0 dismantling of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League showcased their offensive depth, with Luis Díaz netting a hat-trick and staking a strong claim for a starting role. Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong are being monitored for fitness, while Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak are expected to be available. With a seven-point cushion at the top, Liverpool are focused on maintaining their lead, especially with Arsenal breathing down their necks.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are in a more precarious position. Unai Emery’s side has struggled to find consistency, failing to win any of their last five league matches. A frustrating draw against Ipswich Town last weekend left them ninth in the table, six points adrift of the Champions League spots. However, the January loan acquisitions of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio have added much-needed flair and experience to their attack. Both players impressed in recent outings and could be handed starts at Anfield. Emery remains optimistic, emphasizing the challenge and opportunity of facing the league’s top side, but Villa’s defensive frailties remain a concern.

Tottenham Hotspur enter Matchweek 10 with a renewed sense of purpose under manager Thomas Frank, who took over following Ange Postecoglou’s departure. The team has shown flashes of brilliance this season, particularly in midfield where João Palhinha and Pape Sarr have been instrumental in controlling tempo and breaking up opposition play. Richarlison leads the scoring charts for Spurs with three goals, while Mohammed Kudus has emerged as a creative force, contributing four assists in eight appearances. The club’s recent 2-0 win over Everton showcased their defensive solidity and attacking intent, setting the stage for a confident home performance against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Chelsea, managed by Enzo Maresca , have had a similarly mixed start to the campaign. With 14 points from eight matches, they sit neck-and-neck with Spurs in the standings. The Blues have leaned heavily on their midfield duo of Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández, both of whom have netted three goals each. João Pedro has also been a standout performer, contributing both goals and assists from the forward line. Reece James and Marc Cucurella have added width and defensive resilience, helping Chelsea grind out results even when their attacking play has faltered. Their most recent outing—a narrow 1-0 win over Sunderland—was a testament to their ability to edge tight contests.
