NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Toronto Raptors
Toronto Raptors
2016 NBA champion, Cleveland returned towards the start of the 2020s with good intentions under the leadership of coach JB Bickerstaff now in Detroit. Hired in 2024, coach Atkinson allowed the Cavs last season, the year of his induction, to finish 1st in the conference before being beaten in the conference semi-finals by the Pacers. This season, we are aiming for the opposite in Cleveland: a slightly worse regular season but a postseason title. Qualified for the playoffs via 4th place 52 wins - 30 losses, the franchise which remained on 5 wins in its last 6 duels in the NBA, massacred Toronto in match 1 126-113. The Toronto Raptors, 5th in the Eastern Conference at the end of the regular season with a record of 46 wins - 36 losses, lost the first match of this Play-off campaign. But they still have the possibility of recovering the home advantage in the event of success this evening in this match 2. The Canadians were crunched in the interior sector without any surprise during match 1 which took place on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., 33 rebounds against 27, and above all 52 points in the paint against 36, while the shooting percentages 54 against 52 and long distance 50 against 48 were similar.

Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks
After finishing in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference 2025-26 53 wins - 29 losses, New York knew full well that its first match in the Play-offs was going to be scrutinized in all directions by keen orange ball observers. The reason? New York was favorite on paper for the title in the East but was coming off an overall disappointing regular season. Following its loss to the Hornets 96-110 with an encore team to conclude it, New York put in all the right ingredients to win Game 1 in this series against the Hawks. A solid defense, rebound domination 45 against 40, a performance from the main leader Brunson 28 points and finally better management in money time. Victory A little reminder about the season of the Atlanta Hawks who finished in 6th place in the Eastern Conference 46 wins - 36 losses. A quality season rewarded by a presence in the top 6 directly qualifying for the Play-offs. However, the Atlanta Hawks did not finish the regular season well with 3 defeats in the last 4 duels, and unfortunately remained a little in the same rhythm for this first match of the Play-offs defeat 113-102. The match was lost by the Hawks in intensity and efficiency, like a 43% shooting success rate, and only 38% long distance compared to 47 for the Knicks.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Denver Nuggets, 2023 NBA champions for the first time in their history, are advancing into these Play-offs with the firm intention of destroying everything in their path. Nikola Jokic's partners, 3rd at the end of the regular season, met in the first match against the Minnesota Timberwolves. If the Nuggets dominated their subject in the regular season against the Wolves, in 2024, in a game 7, the Wolves had air-conditioned the Ball Arena by winning this match. Denver this year will not intend to prolong the suspense, easy winner of its first duel against the 6th in the Western Conference 116-105. Finalist in the Western Conference last year via 6th place in the regular season, finalist in 2024 as well, Minnesota has relatively stagnated in terms of its game, its team. At a time when the Nuggets have made some changes in the image of Cam Johnson, and the Spurs now main outsiders for the title in the West, Minnesota did not obtain what it wanted during the last off-season, namely a reliable position 1, capable of moving the ball and making life easier for Edwards. DiVincenzo installed at position 1 clearly does not have the shoulders for a team aiming for the title. While Minnesota was ahead in terms of general address, long distance at the end of the first 48 minutes of match 1, the collective of the Denver Nuggets initially 7 more assists and the aggressiveness under the circle 33 Denver free throws against 19 for the Wolves made the difference.

Portland Trailblazers
Portland Trailblazers
For his 3rd season in the NBA, Victor Wembanyama will experience his first playoff campaign and suffice to say, the Spurs are not expected to exit in the 1st round. Avoiding the Suns who flopped against the Blazers, San Antonio, 2nd in the Western Conference with a serious record of 62 wins for 20 losses, should not take the Oregon franchise lightly, especially since it took 2 games during the regular season. These Spurs have rediscovered their aura, their room but above all their culture of winning. Furthermore, San Antonio ended up with 14 victories in its last 16 games. Their last two defeats to date were against the Nuggets, credible candidates for the title 118-128 and 136-134 in Colorado. With Dame Lillard's injury at the start of the season, no one expected the Blazers to have a 42-40-loss season, allowing them to reach a nice 8th place. The play-in was still a real goal, finishing in the top 10 of a 15-team conference is playable, but finishing ahead of the Warriors or the Clippers is nice. Better yet, the Oregon players allowed themselves to pull the rug out from under the Suns during the week in Arizona during the first round of the play-in victory 110-114 and the Israeli crack Deni Avdija had something to do with it. So yes, the Spurs are tough, but Portland managed to avoid the Thunder trap, leaving this poisoned chalice to Phoenix and Golden State.

Orlando Magic
Orlando Magic
The Detroit Pistons 60 wins - 22 losses almost finished better this year than the Bad Boys team of I.Thomas whose franchise record acquired during the 1988-89 season still stands 63 - 19. Leaders of the Eastern Conference, Cade Cunningham's partners pulled off quite a surprise, who were expected around 5th place and remain the big favorites from the start of this series against the Orlando Magic. Although Detroit had secured 1st place on Sunday April 5 with the 76ers 93-116, they won their last 3 games with a quality team against the Bucks 137-111, Hornets 100-118 and Pacers 121-133. With this obligatory passage through the Play-in before making the Play-offs, can we consider that the Orlando Magic have had a good 2025-26 season? No. Expectations were very high around the young core Wagner and Banchero into which a boy like D.Bane was grafted last summer. The difficulties facing the Orlando Magic in trying to turn a corner remain the same. Eliminated in 2023-24 in the 1st round by the Cavaliers 4-3, eliminated in 2024-25 by the Celtics 4-1, Orlando must now advance from the first round. As a reminder, after a setback in the play-in match 7th against 8th against the 76ers 109-97, the Florida team saved its skin by winning the bet at home in front of the Charlotte Hornets 121-90 in order to win the precious sesame.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
