NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Houston Rockets
Houston Rockets
Ready for the battle, Denver 2nd, 20 wins - 6 losses occupies, as is often the case around Christmas, a place in the top 4 of the Western Conference. Champion in 2023, contender for the title this year, Denver without making too much noise is putting itself back in the race for 1st place. OKC's two recent defeats to the Spurs 111-109 and Minnesota 112-107 are very good news for the men of coach David Adelman, the successor to coach Mike Malone. Winner of its last 6 matches, Mile Hile City had beaten the Rockets 128-125 and more logically the Magic 126-115 at the start of the week. Small notable drop in performance for the Houston Rockets who have fallen back to 5th place in the Western Conference 16 wins - 8 losses. That said, some defeats are really very worrying at the moment. The Rockets lost to the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City 133-125 on December 2, beaten on December 7 by the Dallas Mavericks 122-109 and finally to the New Orleans Pelicans last in the Western Conference 133-128 at the end of another very poorly negotiated overtime like against Denver a few days ago.

Oklahoma City Thunder
Oklahoma City Thunder
We might as well tell you right away, we were counting on a success for the Minnesota Timberwolves except that the latter will potentially be deprived of Anthony Edwards for a 4th match in a row. It was the right move to try since the OKC Thunder will be back to back tonight but without Edwards... it's more complicated. Prephelin of its leader that the Wolves received 48 hours ago the Memphis Grizzlies against whom they lost 110-116, ending a small series of 6 successes in 7 games. OKC 1st in the West, 25 victories - 2 defeats is the reigning champion and the undisputed leader of the Western conference and the NBA: better record, better defense with in its ranks the reigning regular season MVP, plus MVP of the Title SGA finals. On the other hand, OKC fell in the semi-finals of the NBA Cup to a San Antonio team 109-111 which should cause them some problems in the years to come. Last night in an effort to regain confidence, OKC logically crushed the Los Angeles Clippers 122-101.

San Antonio Spurs
The Atlanta Hawks are 9th in the Eastern Conference 15 wins – 13 losses. Long in the top 4, they lost a lot of credit and stability. The fall is terrible, long but at the same time so rapid. The pace of Gate City is more worrying than ever, no less than 5 defeats in the last 7 games, beaten last night on the floor of the Charlotte Hornets 133-126. Things aren't really going well for the Hawks, who are nonetheless happy to see T.Young back on the NBA floor. San Antonio, to make it very short, is “ready” for this back-to-back. First, the team is playing its best basketball of the season. 8 successes in the last 10 games, most without their best player V.Wembanyama, and a final recently against the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup, although lost 124-113. But in addition to that yesterday for the reception of the Washington Wizards, San Antonio took the opportunity to rotate its group. No one played more than one half apart from Julian Champagnie 26 min in a quiet 119-94 success.

Chicago Bulls
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in crisis after yet another defeat at the Chicago Bulls in the middle of the week. Eaten, munched, the Cavaliers left the United Center in which they started largely favorites yet with a nice little suitcase of 16 points difference. Final score 127-111. If only this defeat was isolated but that is not the case for a Cleveland surprised 48 hours earlier by the Charlotte Hornets 111-119 after an overtime during which the Ohio franchise incredibly clumsily scored 0 points. 7 losses in the last 10 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Victory against the Cavs for the Chicago Bulls back in the top 10 of the Eastern Conference. 10th with a record of 10 wins - 15 losses, Billy Donovan's men, once leaders, have collapsed in recent weeks before finding a little spice now. 2 victories in the last 3 matches for Chicago, at Charlotte 126-129 and therefore at home against Cleveland 127-111 last. With a defeat in the meantime against the little revival of the New Orleans Pelicans with a score of 104-114 at home.

Philadelphia 76ers
Beaten in the Conference final by Indiana last year, New York has big ambitions this season. After two weeks of logical adaptation due to the arrival of Mike Brown on the bench, the Knicks seem to have found the right fuel in recent weeks. In fact, they have won 11 of their last 12 matches. They have just made their mark by winning the NBA Cup thanks to a success against San Antonio in the final 124-113. Last night, the Big Apple franchise returned to the regular season and won, despite the absence of many executives, on the Indiana floor thanks to a very good finish 113-114. New York is now firmly established in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference and is starting to seriously put pressure on leader Detroit. Big disappointment of the previous year, Philadelphia is finding color this season. Indeed, the Sixers today occupy 5th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 14 victories and 11 defeats. They will certainly have to work hard throughout the regular season to finish in the Top 6 and thus avoid the play-in. Nick Nurse's gang has pocketed 4 victories in the last 6 games. Deprived of its star Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia remains on a success against Indiana 115-105 and a setback in Atlanta on the night of Sunday to Monday.

Miami Heat
Miami Heat
The Boston Celtics 4th, 15 wins - 11 losses, amorphous the first weeks in the absence of injured J.Tatum for the regular season, even flirted for a time with the red zone 10-11th. Finally time to find the right adjustments for a Boston which now counts 100% on a strong trio, Brown at the top of the list, Pritchard and White. This After a series of 5 consecutive successes in the NBA Cavaliers, Knicks, Wizards, Lakers, Raptors, the franchise lost its last 2 games. Following a setback to the Bucks 116-101 last Friday, Boston was surprised by Cunningham's Pistons 105-112. Showing just one more defeat compared to Boston, the Miami Heat 7th, 15 wins - 12 losses traveled to the Brooklyn Nets last night with low morale. Indeed, the Heat had just lost their last 5 games to the Dallas Mavericks 118-108, the Orlando Magic 106-105, the Sacramento Kings 111-127, the Orlando Magic again but this time in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup 117-108 and finally the Toronto Raptors 96-106. The urgency was there for Miami, in a “trap” match in that Brooklyn remained on 2 wins. But ultimately, in a controlled game especially in the 4th quarter, Miami would emerge victorious from their game with a score of 95-106.

Indiana Pacers
Indiana Pacers
The New Orleans Pelicans have been going strong for a few games. Indeed, since when has this franchise been able to win 3 consecutive games in the NBA? Recently we have agreed... But on top of that, crescendo, they have won matches in front of increasingly tough opponents. Portland 143-120 to start announced neck and neck with NOLA for the Play-in at the start of the season, Chicago Bulls 104-114 in a second phase, then ahead of the Houston Rockets 133-128 of Kevin Durant to finish in style. Biggest disappointment in the league, Indiana is penultimate in the Eastern Conference 6 wins - 21 losses. Reigning Eastern Conference champion, deprived of its superstar T. Haliburton injured since Game 7 lost against OKC, Indiana had won two games in front of the Sacramento Kings 116-105 and Chicago Bulls 105-120, before cracking in front of the Philly 76ers 115-105 for the occasion deprived of T. Maxey, the red lantern Washington 89-108 and at home in front of the NY Knicks 113-114.

Dallas Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks
If we look at the paper and nothing else, the season started around October 22. 2 months later, Philly found itself with a 5th place in the East for a not great record 15 wins - 11 losses. Now if we look at the context in which the 76ers have evolved, and continue to evolve, it is a very good operation for them. Jo Embiid misses a lot of matches, the leader of this team missed the last one again, his playing time is starving 26 min. Although his case requires singular management, Philly accomplished a major feat by beating the NY Knicks 107-116 in Madison last night, recent winners of the NBA Cup. Dallas is one of the biggest unknowns in this Western Conference. Indeed, more than in any other franchise, the state of freshness and physicality of guys like Davis and Irving returning in a few weeks, will determine whether or not Dallas can aim for the Play-offs. Because since the comeback of Anthony Davis the transformed Texan franchise has been winning its matches, like this surprising success for a nice little odds at 3.00 ahead of the Detroit Pistons 116-114 leaders of the Eastern Conference in the middle of the week.

Boston Celtics
Very delicate step to negotiate for the Toronto Raptors: the return to Canada. Renowned for its strength over the years in a Scotiabank marked with a hot iron by the repeated exploits of Lowry, DeRozan until the first title won by the franchise with K.Leonard in 2019, the Canadian franchise lost the plot in Ontario by falling 4 times in rank Lakers, Hornets, Celtics, Knicks, before regaining the smile by winning its last two games against Miami 96-106 and Milwaukee 105-111 on the move. Make way for the Boston Celtics 4th, 16 wins - 11 losses, increasingly sharp at the moment, as the important matches approach. Because yes, Boston at the moment, like the Toronto Raptors, is entering a crucial period of its season to the extent that the gap is tiny from 9th place occupied by the Hawks 15 wins - 14 losses to 3rd place for the Raptors 17 wins - 11 losses. The balance hangs by a thread, to not disrupt it, Boston must win like this boss success last night against the Heat 129-116.

Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte Hornets
Overall, the November 2025 version of the Pistons have lost quality in this month of December 2025, reflecting the 4 defeats recorded in the last 10 matches. In the lot, there are some very worrying defeats all the same, notably the one away on the floor of the Milwaukee Bucks despite being deprived of Giannis Antetokounmpo on December 4, before this setback conceded 48 hours ago in front of the Dallas Mavericks of Flagg and Davis with a score of 116-114 after a short overtime of 5 minutes. No luck for the Detroit Pistons this evening, they will face a Charlotte Hornets team that has been very powerful lately. Charlotte 12th in the East, 9 wins - 18 losses is the kind of popcorn formation, a bit all or nothing, but as is often the case when things fall in for the Charlotte Hornets, it really hurts their opponents. With a minimum of defensive consistency Charlotte got the better of Cleveland last Sunday 111-119 in Ohio before slamming the Hawks at home 133-126.

We seem to be starting a very nice little thing at the moment with the Memphis Grizzlies. The guys are 3000% focused, winning matches, and have just sent another big message by winning their last match on the floor of the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-116. It's a very tough Memphis month of December 2025. No less than 4 successes in the last 5 for the Bears who snatched the scalp of the Los Angeles Clippers 107-98, Portland Trail Blazers 119-96 and Los Angeles Clippers again 103-121.Washington 15th in the East, 4 victories - 20 defeats will it turn everything around? Will Washington catch up and play the Play-ins? Well more seriously after a surprising success against the Indiana Pacers in the Crossroads of America 89-108, the Wizards returned to the lab to be inflicted with a nice little beating on the floor of the Spurs 119-94.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
