NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Washington Wizards
Washington Wizards
Charlotte 12th, 17 victories - 28 defeats is the formation on which it is almost impossible to establish the slightest reliable prediction. Always the same refrain, always the same, the same outbursts. The franchise's last 10 games have been completely inconsistent. Able to massacre the defending champion OKC 97-124 the best record in the league on the road, and lose at home 112-114 in front of Indiana which remained on 12 defeats in a row. This has been the story of Charlotte for 5 years with a little more regularity, still author of a perfect match against the Orlando Magic 97-124 2 days ago. The Washington Wizards 15th, 10 wins - 33 losses have finally regained last place in the Eastern Conference after the Pacers' surprise success last night at the Thunder 114-117. On the other hand, let's not be too mean to the Wizards whose level of play had risen strongly at the start of the year, but just after the departure of McCollum against a T.Young who was still not fit to play, Washington lost the following 8 games. 7 consecutive against Western franchises, namely Pelicans on January 10 107-128, Suns 112-93, Clippers 119-105, Kings 128-115, Nuggets 121-115, Clippers 106-110 and Nuggets 97-107.

New York Knicks
The Philadelphia 76ers 6th, 24 wins - 19 losses approach each game in a very different way. The uncertainties about the future of the franchise are still immense, like Jo Embiid too often affected. But when he is present in the starting 5 with Tyrese Maxey it is often a jackpot for the Philadelphia 76ers. The Cameroonian 32 points on the floor for 46 minutes after overtime seems to find his rhythm, in a match won by his team with a score of 128-122. A heavy slump will have considerably distanced the New York Knicks 3rd, 26 wins - 18 losses from the first place occupied by the Detroit Pistons 32 wins - 11 losses. 7 defeats difference is quite strong at 55% of the regular season, especially given the intact consistency of the Pistons. Now the watchword would be to play 2nd place, much more accessible and advantageous with receptions in the 1st round of the Play-offs, and semi-final of the Play-offs. In this sense, the men of coach Mike Brown put an end to a series of 4 defeats in a row Kings, Warriors, Suns, Mavericks by crushing the Nets in the derby, and sign the heaviest victory in the history of the franchise.

Golden State Warriors
The Minnesota Timberwolves, seventh in the Western Conference 27 wins - 17 losses, are in tough times at the moment. For the first time this season, the Wolves lost 4 times in a row. The first duel of this series was lost without Edwards injured at the Rockets 110-105, the second at the San Antonio Spurs for his return saw AE hit his career record, before seeing the Wolves fall at home to receive the Utah Jazz 127-122 and Bulls 115-120. The Golden State Warriors 8th in the Western Conference with 25 wins and 21 defeats, were shaken by the Jimmy Butler injury against the Miami Heat in a game won 135-112. The team was doing really well to the extent that after this success it went on to achieve its 4th success in a row. However, as the last two games of the Golden State Warriors show, both lost 127-145 to the Toronto Raptors and 123-115 to the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State suffered a blow to the head.

Toronto Raptors
Toronto Raptors
Positively as of January 23, 2026 23-22, what kind of miracle is that? In a Western conference renowned for its higher level of demands than its little sister in the East, Portland which saw its number 1 coach C.Billups suspended at the start of the season for legal problems, its best player injured for the season, nevertheless occupies 9th place in the West 23 victories -22 defeats. As interesting as his 4 magnificent victories in a row in front of the Hawks 117-101, Lakers 132-116, Kings 110-117 and Heat 127-110, Butler's injury which will slow down the 8th Warriors is good news for Portland. The Toronto Raptors 4th in the East, 27 wins - 19 losses have finally found their way to victory. Because in fact, this road trip in the Western Conference had started badly for the Raptors, beaten by the Los Angeles Lakers 110-93 for their first duel on the road. But on Wednesday, January 21, the Canadians beat the Golden State Warriors 127-145, taking full advantage of Butler's injury, before logically emerging victorious at the Sacramento Kings 109-122.

Denver Nuggets
“Guys are selfish.” It was enough for the entire small orange ball fan community to bring back the desire to leave Giannis Antetokounmpo, author of these words at the end of the last match. The Warriors are making eyes at him, the Knicks too, but he repeated it a week ago, only Milwaukee interests him. Now it remains to be seen how the Greek will digest this heavy defeat in front of the OKC Thunder 102-122 48 hours ago, diminished for the occasion by the absences of Caruso, Hartenstein and even Jalen Williams. Milwaukee is 11th 18 wins - 25 losses in the East and has lost 4 of its last 5 games. The Denver Nuggets 3rd in the Western Conference with a record of 30 wins - 15 losses, have won 7 of their last 10 games, still without Jokic. The Serb has been vocal recently on the substitutes' bench as assistant coach, and his team continues to win in his absence on the pitch. Following two worrying losses at home against the Hornets 87-110 and LA Lakers 107-115, a direct candidate for the top 4, Mile Hile City took the measure of the Washington Wizards on the road last night 97-107.

The Memphis Grizzlies 11th, 18 wins - 23 losses, after losing to the Orlando Magic and the Wagner brothers 118-111 supported in Berlin last week, took their revenge by winning the second game in London 126-109. It was time for confirmation for the Memphis Grizzlies against the Atlanta Hawks, beaten 4 times in a row before their visit to Tennessee. The match will be as expected offensive and close, at the end of which the Grizzlies finally cracked at the end of the match 122-124. The New Orleans Pelicans 10 wins - 36 losses occupy last place in the Western Conference with almost dead hope of playing in the Play-in. The delay on the 10th, LA Clippers 20 wins - 24 losses, is enormous, and the motivation completely different like the 13 successes collected in 17 games for the Californians. And once again we are licking our lips at the current form of the Pelicans beaten 3 times in the last 3 games, 127-119 in front of the Pelicans, Rockets 119-110 and the Pistons 104-112.

Indiana Pacers
The OKC Thunder 37 wins - 8 losses, leader of the Western Conference, best record in the league, first team in its conference, also holds a good lead over its runner-up San Antonio 31 wins - 14 losses against whom it has nevertheless fallen 3 times in 4 games. In the meantime, we hope for a tasty reunion in the Play-offs... For now, OKC has finished its 3-game road trip in the Eastern Conference. After starting it with a slight hiccup against the Miami Heat 122-120, OKC beat the Cavaliers 104-136 on MLK Day, and Bucks them in Milwaukee 102-122. The Indiana Pacers 15th in the Eastern Conference 10 wins - 35 losses have collapsed since this game 7 lost to the OKC Thunder in the NBA final last July. At the same time Indiana had lost not only the NBA title, but also its best player Haliburton injured in the first quarter of the game. Since Indiana has sunk as you know, red lantern of the Eastern Conference 10 victories -35 defeats without any hope or almost of seeing the Play-in from now on, for this franchise beaten 3 times in a row recently in front of Detroit 121-78, Philly 113-104 and Celtics 119-104.

Boston Celtics
The Brooklyn Nets are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference 12 wins – 30 losses. The partners of Micha Porter Jr like a fish in water among the Nets this year, are gradually abandoning all their chances of playing in the Play-in. Let's be clear, this was in no way the franchise's goal at the start of the season, which is why the Nets don't really feel under pressure at the moment. They have also lost their last 3 games in the NBA to the Chicago Bulls 124-102, the Phoenix Suns 117-126 and the Knicks 120-66 against whom they ate a historic sauce. Make way for the Boston Celtics whose behavior is impeccable despite the loss of Tatum for the season. It is without its superstar that Boston takes its position as runner-up in the Eastern Conference, just behind the incredible season of the Detroit Pistons. With Jayson Tatum potentially returning before the end of the regular season, Boston has a real shot to play in this Eastern Conference. Second 27 wins - 16 losses, the Celtics won their duel 119-104 in front of the Indiana Pacers in the last match.

The Atlanta Hawks 10th, 21 wins - 25 losses by remaining in this situation strongly expose themselves to the returns of the Milwaukee Bucks 11th, 18 wins - 25 losses and Charlotte Hornets 12th, 17 wins - 28 losses. It's hard for Atlanta to win games. A franchise which separated itself from T.Young the head of the dragon for 7-8 years, whose adjustments are clumsy at the moment like the 4 consecutive defeats to the Lakers, Blazers, Celtics and Bucks. Before seeing CJ McCollum's new team take a hell of a match in last place against the Grizzlies 122-124. The Phoenix Suns are now 5th in the Western Conference. Arizona players keep winning 27 wins - 17 losses, like their last 3 consecutive victories over the NY Knicks with a score of 99-106, for a success against the Brooklyn Nets 117-126 and finally over the Philadelphia 76ers in the Wells Fargo Center. This game against the Hawks is the last of a 6-game road trip in the Eastern Conference for the Suns. To finish the poor form of the Lakers 6th, Wolves 7th, 4 defeats in a row and the injury of Butler for the season with the Warriors 8th is good news for the Suns.

Sacramento Kings
Leader of the Eastern Conference in the regular season for Kenny Atkinson's first year in charge of the team but beaten by the Indiana Pacers in the conference semi-finals 4-1, Cleveland would like to do the opposite this year. Overall, Donovan Mitchell's franchise is expected to play in the top 4 of the conference in the regular season, which is currently 5th, but the real goal will be to show its muscles once in the Play-offs. The Cleveland Cavaliers, beaten 104-136 by OKC at the start of the week as part of MLK Day, took the lead against the Charlotte Hornets 87-94 48 hours ago. To sign a 3rd victory in 4 matches, counting his two previous victories against Phila. The Sacramento Kings 14th in the West, 12 wins - 33 losses, will not catch up to play in the Play-in, that's an almost certainty. Especially given the terrifying competition, notably the Mavericks 12th, 4 wins in a row, 19 wins - 26 losses and the Grizzlies 11th, 18 wins - 24 losses, much better equipped to win a ticket for the Play-in. The Kings, moreover, lost their last 3 games in the NBA to the Portland Blazers 110-117, the Miami Heat 117-130 and the Toronto Raptors 109-122.

Houston Rockets
In an Eastern Conference where there are many disappointments, the Detroit Pistons 1st, 32 wins - 10 losses display a lot of consistency. The objective for this 2nd part of the season is very simple for Detroit. JB Bickerstaff's men, by continuing like this, will have every chance of keeping this 1st place in order to ensure home advantage in the event of the 1st round, semi-final, and Eastern Conference final. Winners of 7 of their last 8 matches, Cade Cunningham's partners won the last 104-112 away to the Pelicans. The Houston Rockets, 4th in the Western Conference with a record of 26 wins - 16 losses, are in the race for the best spots in the Western Conference. We must first maintain a top 4 and then do what the franchise failed to accomplish last year: win its first round of the Western Conference. Houston is in a good period despite this defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers in Pennsylvania last night 128-122 since the franchise remained on 3 successes in a row before this disappointment: ahead of the Wolves 110-105, the Pelicans 119-110 and the Spurs 111-106.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
