NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

LA Lakers
LA Lakers
The Cleveland Cavaliers 28 wins - 20 losses are in a very good rhythm at the moment: 11 wins in the last 15 games have allowed the Cavaliers to make their return to the top 6 of the Eastern Conference, to 5th place more precisely. Following a setback in front of OKC during MLK Day 104-136, Cleveland then beat the Hornets in Charlotte 87-94, the Kings at home 123-118 and the next day the Orlando Magic precisely 105-119 in Florida in order to achieve a 3rd success, plus victory for revenge against the Orlando Magic 114-98 a 4th in a row. The Los Angeles Lakers are 5th in the Western Conference with a record of 28 wins – 17 losses. Above all, they are in very good form with no less than 4 successes in the last 5 matches. It's the start of a great series for JJ Reddick's men, victorious to start against the Toronto Raptors 110-93, and on the road against the Denver Nuggets 107-115. Midway through, the Lakers fell in the derby against the Clippers 112-104, before dominating the Mavericks 110-116, and the Bulls 118-129 at another time.

Chicago Bulls
Chicago Bulls
They gave everything to beat the OKC Thunder last weekend in order to take their revenge 114-117 of a game 7 lost in the NBA final in Okhaloma, and then Indiana simply gave up. Indeed the Pacers, were traveling to the Atlanta Hawks 10th in the East for the last chance confrontation we want to say to the extent that Atlanta occupied the last spot for the Play-in. Celui-ci a été perdu par les Indiana Pacers logiquement sur le score de 132-116. Les Chicago Bulls sont à la 9e place de la conférence Est 23 victoires - 23 défaites. For them everything is fine. Cette franchise n'a aucune pression de résultats cette année tout en ayant conscience de son potentiel pour les années futures. Chicago after 10 days occupied 1st place in the conference as a reminder 5-0 before necessarily losing intensity like this setback with the score of 118-129 against the Los Angeles Lakers during the last match of the Bulls 118-129, who however remained on 4 successes in a row Nets, Clippers, Timberwolves, Celtics.

San Antonio Spurs
The Houston Rockets 4th, 28 wins - 16 losses, criticized a little at the start of the season and towards the middle for the lack of impact of the rest of the group behind Sengun and Durant, cannot really erase these few faults. Losing D.Brooks and J.Green wasn't great news for the Rockets looking for balance. However, the last two results, the two victories in front of the Detroit Pistons 104-111 and the Memphis Grizzlies 108-99, are good omens and finally let us remember that the Rockets are expected to turn the corner in the Play-offs, not now. The San Antonio Spurs 2nd in the Western Conference, 31 wins - 15 losses have already traveled here not so long ago, it was Wednesday January 21, the Spurs lost the match with a score of 111-106 after leading by almost 20 points. Since this defeat San Antonio has remained in the fridge quite a bit, playing only two small matches, for an authoritarian success in front of the Utah Jazz with a score of 109-126, before seeing them shattered to receive the Pelicans 95-104.

Miami Heat
Miami Heat
On Thursday, January 8, 2026, you would have told Chicago leaders "your team will be top 10, with a record of 17 wins - 20 losses", they would probably not have believed you. Because in fact, Chicago, by losing LaVine, DeRozan and Ball in recent months, put an end to a Big Three that never worked. The goal this year was to take on this reconstruction for Chicago but only a boy like Josh Giddey among the 3 big favorites for the MIP title heard it otherwise. In the absence of the injured Australian, however, Chicago lost its last 3 games to Charlotte 99-112, Celtics 115-101 and Pistons 108-93 last night. Opposite the Miami Heat are 8th in the Eastern Conference with 20 wins - 17 losses. The results of a team that is doing the job for the moment, living up to the ambitions of the franchise. However, the mayonnaise around T.Herro, B.Adebayo and N.Powell looks delicious, and when all 3 men are finally available at the same time, things will probably change. For now, after a great series of 4 consecutive victories, Miami wins one match, loses one match. Like his success Monday at home against the Pelicans 125-106 and his subsequent defeat at the Timberwolves 122-94.

L. A. Clippers
The leaders of the Utah Jazz 13th in the West, 15 wins - 31 losses had sent Clarkson, Sexton and Collins to new destinations in order to make room for young people and recover a few rounds of the Draft in the process. After 55% of the games played this season in the NBA by the Jazz, this is a great success. Building around young K.George, supported by boys like Sensabaugh and Bailey, can be very heavy. Markkanen for the moment would be more evoked as a bargaining chip. On the court, Utah has lost 4 of its last 7 games, including 2 very recently at home against SA and Miami. The Los Angeles Clippers, tenth in the Western Conference 21 wins - 24 losses, have won 15 of their last 18 games in the NBA. It's very simple to understand: no one is doing better among the 30 franchises present in the big league. Tyronn Lue's immensely talented group has seemingly found its cruising speed, driven by Kawhi Leonard averaging 28 points in 33 minutes of brilliant playing time. After a success in the derby against the Los Angeles Lakers 112-104, Tyronn Lue's gang took the measure of the Brooklyn Nets 126-89.

Brooklyn Nets
The slightest defeat in a very close top 7 in the Western Conference is paid in cash. The Phoenix Suns paid the price recently. After a series of 3 consecutive victories in front of the NY Knicks 99-106, the Brooklyn Nets 117-126 and the Philadelphia 76ers 110-116, Phoenix was stopped on the right track by the Atlanta Hawks 110-103. Phoenix had to bounce back, and quickly. The reception of a Miami Heat in back-to-back was the perfect opportunity, but unfortunately for them the Suns fell a second time in rank 102-111. The Brooklyn Nets, 14th, 12 victories - 36 defeats like many franchises in the second half of the table, already ready to tank - gradually let go to the point of falling 9 times in the last 10 games. Among the latest defeats, Brooklyn suffered a few blows like this record success for the NY Knicks 120-66 and the defeat last Sunday at the Los Angeles Clippers 126-89.

Detroit Pistons
6 successes in the last 8 matches for the best away team in the league. 6 successes in the last 8 matches without Jokic. Yes...Denver is surprising. What kind of miracle is that? See Denver in 3rd place in the Western Conference 31 wins - 15 losses tied with the Spurs while hell was promised to it without its Serbian superstar. After an expected success in the Capital against the Wizards 97-107, Denver took the measure of the Milwaukee Bucks 100-102, still on the move. The Detroit Pistons, leaders of the Eastern Conference with a record of 33 victories - 11 defeats, took a lead on the 2nd place occupied by the Boston Celtics 2nd, 29-17 and distanced themselves from the NY Knicks 4th, 27-18 the best on the paper in the East and favorites. Winner of 8 of its last 10 games at the start of the 2nd part of the season, Detroit asserted itself in its last match against the Sacramento Kings at home 139-116. Detroit, currently on a 3-game road trip to the West, will play the Suns 01/30 and Warriors 01/31 next.

New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans Pelicans
The Oklahoma City Thunder had the best start to a season ever with 24 wins in the first 25 games, tied with the 2016 Golden State Warriors. By crushing the Suns 138-89 in the NBA Cup quarterfinals on December 11, the 2016 Warriors' 73-9 record for the entire regular season was more relevant than ever, but a lot of water has flowed under the bridge in 1 month and a half. OKC has lost 9 of its last 27 games, bringing its record to 37 wins – 10 losses. In other words, it's dead for the Warriors' record, even more so since these last 2 losses at home: in front of the Indiana Pacers 114-117 then the Toronto Raptors 101-103. Although the NOLA Pelicans have nothing left to play, and occupy 15th place in the Western Conference 12 wins - 36 losses, the latter are winning duels at the moment. Indeed, for an OKC team in full doubt, facing NOLA now is not a good idea. The Pelicans are doing better, like the last two successes against the Memphis Grizzlies 127-133, and miraculously against the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 95-104.

Milwaukee Bucks
The Philadelphia 76ers 6th, 24 wins - 21 losses are 6th in the Eastern Conference by default we want to say. Already the barely positive results are really poor for a member of the top 6, while the franchise from Pennsylvania shows no sign of regularity. Following a 109-112 defeat in the Wells Fargo Center against the Knicks, it was time for reaction for the Sixers traveling last night to the Charlotte Hornets. But deprived of Joel Embiid, the sanction quickly fell 130-93.  The Milwaukee Bucks 11th, 18 wins - 26 losses are back in full crisis. Repeating it is essential, but Giannis is closer than ever to a departure. His team can't do it, the defeats keep coming. Unless there is a miracle a bit like the Clippers 14 wins in 17 games, it is impossible for Milwaukee to dream. Hold the Play-in, try for a qualifier? Yes, but if it is to be destroyed in the 1st round... In the coming weeks, all possibilities will be studied by the leaders of a team beaten 5 times in the last 6 games, including the last at home 100-102 against the Nuggets deprived of many players. Milwaukee did not play Memphis last postponed Sunday, snow.

Sacramento Kings
The overall form of the reigning NBA Cup champion declined after this title in Vegas obtained in front of V.Wembanyama's Spurs. Mike Brown's New York notably fell twice in 4 games to the 76ers at home deprived of Jo Embiid and to the Timberwolves 115-104. Little by little the franchise lost confidence, demoted to 3rd place, and now in 4th place in the Eastern Conference 27 victories -18 defeats. Indeed, although the Knicks won their last 2 games against Brooklyn and Phila, just before that they had fallen 4 times in a row in the NBA. The Sacramento Kings 14th in the Western Conference with a record of 12 wins - 35 losses have little left to hope for at the end of the season. What happens now on the floors will not have an impact on the Kings' season, it is the leaders who will take over. The goal is to change what is wrong, not to mention the DeRozan-Lavine duo. Also, a boy like Sabonis with the highest market value could pay for an interesting package. "Sactown" lost its last 5 games to finish ahead of the Blazers 110-117, the Heat 117-130, Raptors 109-122, Cavaliers 123-118 and Pistons 139-116.

The Washington Wizards 10 wins - 34 losses have finally regained their place as last in the Eastern Conference after the few interesting victories of the Indiana Pacers 14th in the NBA. Washington, to make it very short, has been in trouble since the departure of McCollum replaced by a T.Young OUT. On paper the Wizards have achieved a huge blow, but not in the long term. Their 9th consecutive match, Alex Sarr's band lost to the Charlotte Hornets 115-119 on the road. After leaving Oregon winning 4 of its last 5 games at home in front of the Atlanta Hawks 132-116, the Los Angeles Lakers 132-116, the Sacramento Kings 110-117, the Miami Heat 127-110 for a loss to the Toronto Raptors 98-110, Portland visited Boston last night for a trip to the TD Garden for the first game of its Eastern Conference road trip. At the end of a game which started very badly for the 9th in the Western Conference with a first quarter lost 32-11, the Oregon team never managed to catch up, losing 102-94.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
