NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Indiana Pacers
Indiana Pacers
It's a fairy tale. A truly enchanted little story that JB Bickerstaff is telling us for the moment in his 2nd year at the head of this franchise. His team occupies 1st place in the Eastern Conference 11 wins - 2 losses ahead of the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers etc. Very recently, in the second part of last week, the signals sent do not really leave room for doubt. Detroit, deprived of Cade Cunningham, initially tamed the Bulls 124-113 and the 76ers 114-105. Finalist of the Eastern Conference Indiana, after 4 weeks of recovery, occupies 15th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 1 victory for 12 defeats. Only Stephen Curry's Warriors managed to fall in the Crossroads of America on November 2, 114-109. Otherwise, Indiana lost a lot again, and lost with relatively high score gaps. Among other things, the Pacers have lost the last 4 games by a margin of at least +18 in favor of their opponent, like the last one to the Raptors 111-129.

LA Clippers
LA Clippers
Some people would mention a trade for the first time of Jo Embiid within the franchise. The cornerstone of this project, the Cameroonian's physique is a real burden for his franchise. Judging firstly by his starving playing time of only 23 minutes of play, Embiid is a real problem for his troops at the moment. In the standings, after a good start Philly 6th, 7 wins - 5 losses, it lost ground, like its last match last week in front of the Pistons deprived of Cunningham 114-105. Compared to their situation we are talking about the Sixers, that of the Clippers is so unenviable. Since Kawhi's arrival 6 years ago, the problems have never stopped on the Californian coast. Damn she had Beal back for the season, but he was finally OUT for the season injured last week. The results were already bad, the place of T.Lue coach would already be widely discussed within the franchise. 11th, Los Angeles 4 wins - 9 losses, narrowly lost to the Celtics 121-118 a few hours ago. 8 losses in the last 10 games for the Clippers.

Chicago Bulls
Chicago Bulls
The Utah Jazz 10th, 4 wins - 8 losses, already has a colossal gap on their first target in the West, Portland 9th, 6 wins - 6 losses. A huge gap. A gap justified by the fact that the Western Conference has too many teams “ready for the Play-offs”. Obviously for a Salt Lake City team now orphaned by its great American international pivot Walker Kessler who is injured, things are looking rather bad for them, beaten 48 hours ago at home against the Atlanta Hawks 122-132. The Chicago Bulls 8th in the East, 6 wins - 5 losses leaders of the Eastern Conference a few days ago, are now in 8th place. This is completely logical for the Bulls who are in overdrive, but who will now hope to secure a spot for the Play-in, or even the Play-offs. That said, barely 15% of the regular season has passed so far, but the Bulls must however find some bite, a good horn. Because for now Josh Giddey's teammates have lost their last 4 games in the NBA Bucks 126-110, Cavaliers 128-122, Spurs 117-121 and Pistons 124-113.

Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks
For our part. A bit like the start of the Chicago Bulls season, we don't believe in this Phoenix team. For several obvious reasons. The first because the departures of Durant and Beal are supposed to bring about a cycle of reconstruction. Secondly, this Western Conference is too demanding for a team like the Phoenix Suns. Finally thirdly, the calendar is nice. Over the last 4 games, the Suns beat the Clippers in crisis 115-102, 103-114 twice, the Pelicans 121-98 good last in the Western conference and Dallas penultimate 114-123, then Indiana 133-98 penultimate in the East. The Atlanta Hawks' performance is breathtaking, especially in context. Deprived of T.Young since the start of the season or almost, they are for the moment united and inspired. 5th in the Western Conference 7 wins - 5 losses, the Falcons have won some very good battles against Western franchises recently. In front of the Los Angeles Lakers 122-102 on November 9, a few days before starting this road trip to the West in the best way at the Clippers 102-105, on the floor of the Sacramento Kings 100-133, then in front of the Utah Jazz 122-132.

Portland Trailblazers
Portland Trailblazers
Could we, at the start of the season, imagine a worse scenario than this for the Dallas Mavericks? You get back number 1 in the Draft, plus A.Davis present at the start of hostilities, and not a big injury except Irving. We say to ourselves... It's gone pretty well. Except no. Dallas, 14th in the Western Conference, fired Niko Harrisson this week and appears to be keeping Davis in the fridge for trade. A terrible failure for Dallas who would like to be able to turn back the clock and get Luka back. So far on the night of Friday to Saturday the Mavericks lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 127-133. So no, staying in the top 6 of the Western Conference over time is impossible for franchises like the Utah Jazz and the Portland Trail Blazers 9th, 6 wins - 6 losses at the moment. The Oregon team has already fallen 3 times in the last 4 games. And in the Western Conference, it doesn't forgive a single second... In the image, Portland was corrected on the road during the night from Friday to last Saturday with a score of 140-116 on the floor of the Houston Rockets.

Orlando Magic
Orlando Magic
This Houston team obviously knows its ambitions this season but probably not yet its limits. The priority objective: qualify for the playoffs. The secondary objective: pass the 1st round. The icing on the cake: playing in the Western Conference final. High goals... But in such a strong Western Conference the difference is made in the Play-offs. Besides, Houston is well placed to talk about it, 2nd in the regular season, and eliminated by 7th Golden State last year. Third in the West a few months later, H-Town won the last 3 duels: Bucks 115-122, Wizards 135-112 and Blazers 140-116. The Orlando Magic demonstrated their ability to achieve great things last year. Strengthened by the arrival of Desmond Bane in the rhythm, the Mickey Mouse franchise once again moved towards a positive record of 7 victories - 6 defeats. The consequence of a well-negotiated week for J. Mosley's men, winners of the Portland Trail Blazers in the first half 115-112, of the New York Knicks 107-124 for the franchise's benchmark match this year in the NBA and finally ahead of the Brooklyn Nets 105-98.

Golden State Warriors
Golden State Warriors
New Orleans is the story of a resounding failure. Of a story that never really began between its jewel Zion Williamson, too fragile physically injured this evening, and a franchise whose choices are very often eccentric, misunderstood. New Orleans while waiting for better days is in 15th place in the Western Conference 2 wins - 10 losses. After having chained two victories in front of Charlotte 116-112 and Dallas 99-101, the Bayou franchise lost the next 4, notably the last in front of the Austin Reaves Lakers 31 points, 104-118. Bad luck for this New Orleans team because its opponent really has fangs. The Golden State Warriors 8th, 8 wins - 6 losses are playing hard. It plays hard. They just beat the San Antonio Spurs twice in the AT&T Center Arena. The first match at the end of a game controlled overall 120-125 marked by Stephen Curry's 46 points and the 2nd a little more bizarre but won 108-109 thanks in particular to the 49 points of... Stephen Curry you guessed it.

Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn Nets
The opposite hope for the Brooklyn Nets is found in some of the young men present on this roster for the Washington Wizards. Indeed, how can we miss the start of the XXL season 19 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists from Frenchman Alex Sarr for his 2nd year in the NBA. The perspective on him starts to change, what if, what if he had the shoulders to build something cool around him? Probably not this year however where Washington is in 15th place, only 1 victory on the clock ahead of Dallas 107-117 for no less than 10 consecutive defeats for the Wizards defeated 135-112 at the Rockets 2 days ago. The worst is yet to come. Do you think we're hitting rock bottom with Washington? Wait until you see the Brooklyn Nets deprived of many Draft rounds, unable to rebuild for the moment, obviously without the slightest idea. But above all the equipment raises questions... The workforce is very small, and only holds dal in terms of currency of exchange. Brooklyn is in 13th place with a record similar to its little friend in the Capital: 1 victory - 11 defeats. Brooklyn lost the last 4 games, but for the last 2 it was relatively committed after losses to the Raptors 109-119 and the Orlando Magic 105-98.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
