NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks
In the most total uproar the Charlotte Hornets fell in the last match against the Detroit Pistons at home. A small event insofar as the Hornets remained on 9 consecutive successes in the NBA. Able to tear the Spurs 111-106, and beat the Houston Rockets 99-109 in Texas, Charlotte was well rated to defeat the Pistons. The latter got the last word on experience in the clutch moments of the game to win 104-110. The Atlanta Hawks, ninth in the Eastern Conference 26 wins - 29 losses, are having difficulty navigating in a rather weak Eastern Conference. On the other hand, if the comeback of the Hornets is nice to comment on, the stagnation of Atlanta is problematic to the extent that the teams from the East have taken the train for a few days like the 76ers, 6th with a good record now 30 victories - 23 defeats. The Hawks must react, quickly, in this sense... They lost to Hornets 119-126 and Timberwolves 138-116.

Milwaukee Bucks
3 victories in 3 games for the Orlando Magic, the start of a good series? Let's hope so for the Magic franchise whose top 4 goal has taken a hit in recent weeks. The reason? If the Orlando side wins games, the 76ers 6th, 30 wins - 23 losses like the top 6 did not wait for the Magic to wake up to win games and distance themselves. A first time winner of the Bucks 118-99 in a one-sided meeting, Orlando must double the stakes in order to get closer to its objective. Still deprived of Giannis Antetokounmpo for ten days, the Milwaukee Bucks remained successful ahead of the Bulls 131-115, the Pelicans 141-137 and Pacers 105-99 before this match against Orlando. 12th in the Eastern Conference, if the Bulls 11th 24-30 are sinking, the Hornets 10th, 9 wins in 10 games have put the turbo to return to the top 10. The trip to Orlando went very badly for Kevin Porter Jr's teammates, beaten by a score of 118-99.

The race is on for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the race for the Playoffs. If a place in the top 6 seems more and more secure, day after day, Cleveland is now 100% focused on the top 4, and why not top 2. A new dynamic has taken hold of the Cavaliers, winners 9 times in the last 10 games, or even victorious in the last 4 duels contested by the franchise in front of the Portland Trail Blazers 111-130, the Los Angeles Clippers 91-124, the Sacramento Kings 126-132 and the Denver Nuggets 117-119. What if the Magicians of the Capital had found the recipe for the magic potion for next season? A bit of Anthony Davis inside, a piece of madness with T.Young in the lead, plus some toughness with Sarr, the cocktail isn't bad. It makes you want it. But the first ones we will have to wait to have them, wait around October 2026 now. Because this year it's dead for the Wizards, 14th in the Eastern Conference 14 wins - 38 losses, defeated against the Nets 127-113 and Heat 101-132.

New York Knicks
The Philadelphia 76ers 6th in the Eastern Conference 30 wins - 23 losses are still in the running to have a big season. T.Maxey's partners found their way to victory by relying on Jo Embiid capable of stringing together matches. The Cameroonian without transition has missed a few matches recently and caused the few recent defeats, like the last one at the Blazers during which he was unfortunately injured. Defeat 135-118. Opposite, the New York Knicks occupy 3rd place in the Eastern Conference. Although the New Yorkers have won games recently in the NBA 8 wins in 10 games, the latest performances leave something to be desired like this inexplicable setback last night in Madison Square Garden in front of the Indiana Pacers 134-137. A defeat that would probably have been without consequence just a few days ago, but now, with the Cavaliers 4th, 9 wins in 10 games and Celtics 2nd, 8 wins in 10 games who no longer lose or almost never lose, it is paid for in cash in the rankings.

Detroit Pistons
Going from 66% defeats last year to 5th place in the Eastern Conference is a total success for Canadians in great shape this year. The revival took place over previous years through the losses of certain captains present in 2019 such as VanVleet and Siakam. A new page is being written in Ontario for a group in progress whose conference semi-final would be seen as a huge success. Toronto won its last 2 games against the Bulls 123-107 and the Pacers 122-104. The Detroit Pistons 39 wins - 13 losses 75% success this year and a well-deserved first place for a team in top form. The last 2 matches are suggestive of a formation with total confidence at the moment. The Detroit Pistons first massacred the 3rd victorious Knicks before this trip to the Motor City in their last 9 games with a score of 118-80, in order to end a series of... 9 games as well. That of the Charlotte Hornets 104-110 in a meeting animated by a heavy fight.

San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio Spurs
The Los Angeles Lakers 5th, 32 wins - 20 losses are poorly coordinated overall but for the moment they occupy a place in the top 6. Several elements are regularly injured like LeBron at the start of the year, then Reaves, and recently Doncic still injured tonight. Last night without the Slovenian, the Lakers surrendered in the money-time against a sharper OKC Thunder, with a score of 110-119, after 3 consecutive victories.  The San Antonio Spurs are where no one expects them to be right now, namely in 2nd place. Speaking of which, the Texans can hope for 1st place now. Firstly because he wins a lot of matches. Indeed, SA won its last 4 duels in the big league: ahead of the Orlando Magic 112-103, then the OKC Thunder 116-106, and finally against the Dallas Mavericks twice 123-135 and 138-125. But also because OKC is not at its best with SGA's injury and its dynamics despite the success against the... Lakers last night.

Dallas Mavericks
The Phoenix Suns, seventh in the Western Conference 31 wins - 22 losses, are going through a slight slump which is not welcome given the situation in the top 6 in the West. In fact, the requirement is total, there is no room for error. However, the Suns have lost 3 of their last 4 games. Defeats conceded at home in front of the Clippers heavily 93-117, then for the reception of the Golden State Warriors 97-101, before sinking against the increasingly sharp Philly 76ers in the Eastern Conference 103-109. For a victory on the road, in Portland 125-130. To repeat the short sentence cited a little above concerning the stakes of the match, yes Dallas is moving considerably away from 10th place which is not one of the franchise's priorities. Firstly by deciding to part ways with Davis before the deadline in order to recover equipment to maneuver this summer, and secondly by losing no less than 7 consecutive matches. In front of the Lakers 110-116, Minnesota 105-118, Hornets 121-123, Rockets 111-107, Boston 100-110, Spurs 123-135 and Spurs a second time 138-125.

L. A. Clippers
The Houston Rockets 4th in the West, 32 wins - 19 losses, by registering the arrival of Kevin Durant in the offseason, automatically showed themselves to be ambitious and impatient. Because in fact last year after a 2nd place in the Western Conference obtained on merit, the defeat in the 1st round against Stephen Curry's Warriors 4-3 went badly in Texas, a direct consequence of the transfer Durant Phoenix --> Green Houston. For the moment the regular season is good but Houston is 4th and in any case expected especially in the playoffs. Houston, after two losses at home to the Celtics 93-114 and the Hornets 99-109, reacted and in what way, to the OKC Thunder on the road 106-112. The Los Angeles Clippers 10th, 25 wins - 27 losses are still negotiating the fantastic comeback operation. With Kawhi Leonard on board but no longer James Harden or Ivica Zubac, Los Angeles will nevertheless have a lot to do in front of a top 7 in the West which has distanced itself like the record of the Suns 7th, 31 victories - 22 defeats. Forced to play flawlessly or almost flawlessly until the end, Los Angeles beat Minnesota on the road 96-115 last Sunday around 11 p.m.

Indiana Pacers
Indiana Pacers
The New York Knicks, second in the Eastern Conference 34 wins - 19 losses, are in an excellent dynamic of 9 wins in the last 10 games. However for the moment it is insufficient to put pressure on the Pistons 1st, 39-13 who knew how to keep their distance by winning in this top match Detroit - NY 118-80 at the very start of last weekend. First place for NY is important in order to compete in the Play-offs more calmly. Sunday before the SuperBowl, the NY Knicks had a very big game by defeating the Boston Celtics with a score of 89-111 in the TD Garden. The Indiana Pacers 15th, 13 wins - 40 losses, who lost their last 4 games, are finishing a delicate season to negotiate for them. Indiana has never found its rhythm without T. Haliburton, its injured superstar, unlike Boston 3rd in the Eastern Conference without Tatum. However, when the Celtics can count on a great J.Brown almost every night, Siakam did not take his responsibilities as he should. Indiana, traveling last Sunday against the Raptors, did things the other way around again 122-104.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
