NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota Timberwolves
8th with a balanced record 32v - 32d, the Los Angeles Clippers will really need to win this game this evening. Each victory will now count with 1 month to go in the race for the top 8. 8th place allows, as a reminder, to obtain two cartridges to qualify for the Play-offs, instead of just one for places 9 and 10. Last week was perfectly concluded by Kawhi Leonard's partners. Victorious against the Memphis Grizzlies 120-123, the Clippers managed to win the clash opposing them to the New York Knicks who were back to back, at home with a score of 126-118. 5 victory in the last 6 games for the Clippers. Demoted to 5th place after yesterday's matches, the Minnesota Timberwolves were also among the franchises in great form at the end of the NBA season. As obvious as the Wolves are among the most experienced. Full of confidence after beating franchises like Portland 121-124, Clippers 88-94, Denver 108-117, Memphis 117-110 and Toronto 115-107, Anthony Edwards' gang was however stopped twice in a row. First at home by Orlando 92-119, before this trip which went badly against the Lakers last night 120-106.

Houston Rockets
The Denver Nuggets are now in 6th place in the Western Conference 39 wins - 26 losses. The Denver Nuggets 6th have lost their last 2 meetings, in test matches, at home against the New York Knicks 103-142 initially, and then on the road against the OKC Thunder 129-126 at the end of a game which delivered its outcome in the last minutes. 2nd in the Western Conference standings at the start of 2026, it's a cold shower for the Nuggets who will however finally be able to count on an almost complete squad to regain color during the next matches. 3rd in the Western Conference 40 victories - 24 defeats, Houston took advantage of the wanderings of a formation like Denver to find a place in the sun in this Western conference, namely a top 4. Swept against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday in the Texas derby 145-120, a reaction was expected against the Raptors and it took place with a nice 113-99 victory last night. 2nd last year but eliminated in the Play-offs in the 1st round, Houston wants its place in the semi-final at least this year.

Charlotte Bobcats
The Sacramento Kings, failing to have a thrilling end to the season, won back a few games. After 3 losses in front of the Lakers 128-104, Suns 103-114 and the NOLA Pelicans 123-133, took the best at home over the Chicago Bulls 126-110 then over the Pacers last night thanks to a nice comeback 114-109. Let us remember, however, that the season was atrocious for the Kings, 15th in the Western Conference with a record of 16 wins - 50 losses, and in particular this series of 16 defeats, the worst in history for the franchise. The Charlotte Hornets, for their part, will very soon lock their place in the play-in of the Eastern Conference 10th 33 wins - 33 losses to the extent that the Bucks 11th, 27 victories - 36 defeats seem to have lost strength and motivation. After 2 defeats - the first time at home against the Miami Heat 120-128 and then against the Phoenix Suns 111-99 - the Hornets were able to recover last night with this success obtained during a perilous trip to the Blazers 101-103. 7 victories all the same for Charlotte in their last 9 meetings.

New York Knicks
We expected a dissolution and probably the departure of Markkanen, ultimately he remained in the group, in a team which will aim for the Play-offs next year after having recorded the arrival of Jackson Jr in February. The Utah Jazz, 14th in the Western conference 20 wins - 45 losses, nevertheless won two of its last three games in the NBA, at the Washington Wizards 112-122 last Friday and at home against the Golden State Warriors 119-116. In the meantime, it was a big defeat in Milwaukee which was written 113-99. Opposite, the New York Knicks are still positioned in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference 41 victories - 25 defeats because they were unable to take advantage of the less good performance of the leader Detroit 45 victories - 18 defeats and its runner-up Boston 43-22. Indeed, now 1 month from the end of the regular season, the Knicks have lost their last two games in the NBA. Both during this tour to the West, which began with two matches in two days in Los Angeles in front of the Lakers 110-97 and the Clippers 126-118.

Toronto Raptors
Toronto Raptors
Change in behavior of this franchise, unrecognizable, regular, while the season is dead from an ambition point of view. The return of Dejounte Murray still does good in a squad which will try to build something next season. Indeed, the Pelicans occupy 13th place in the Western Conference 21 wins - 45 losses, but victorious in 6 of their last 9 games in the NBA. That said, let us note the ease of a schedule which allowed them in the last 4 contested games to beat the Utah Jazz twice 118-129, 105-115, the Sacramento Kings 123-133 then, and the Wizards 138-118 last. Opposite, the Toronto Raptors 36 victories - 28 defeats see their 6th place being put in danger, it is obvious by the incredible comeback of the Orlando Magic yet still deprived of Franz Wagner. Indeed, at a time when the Magic continues, Toronto is having a hard time being consistent in its game, beaten 3 times in the last 4 games in front of the NY Knicks 95-111, the Timberwolves 115-107 and finally the Houston Rockets 113-99 last night in Texas.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland Cavaliers
After losses to the Rockets 108-113 and the Pistons 92-106 almost 2 weeks ago, the Orlando Magic players have visibly changed their state of mind. Orlando slowly regained confidence by beating the Washington Wizards 126-109, but also the Dallas Mavericks a little more in pain, before delivering two XXL performances. The first serving as a reference match following a victory for the Wolves 92-119, and the second in front of the Milwaukee Bucks 91-130. Winner of these last 4 games, Orlando is 7th in the East, 35 wins - 28 losses. Another team in great form in the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers 4th, 40 wins - 25 losses, who have won no less than 3 of their last 4 games in the NBA. Over this period, they were challenged with no less than 3 big posters in the NBA, first ahead of the Detroit Pistons, then the Boston Celtics and finally the Philadelphia 76ers. For what results? After a logical victory against Brooklyn, Cleveland achieved a success against the Eastern leaders 113-109, a setback for Tatum's 2nd since his return 98-109 and a victory against the 76ers 115-101 deprived of Jo Embiid and Maxey.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
