NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Upcoming Games and Odds

Detroit Pistons

Houston Rockets
Houston Rockets
In an Eastern Conference where there are many disappointments, the Detroit Pistons 1st, 32 wins - 10 losses display a lot of consistency. The objective for this 2nd part of the season is very simple for Detroit. JB Bickerstaff's men, by continuing in this way, will have every chance of keeping this 1st place in order to ensure home advantage in the event of the 1st round, semi-final, and Eastern Conference final. Winners of 7 of their last 8 matches, Cade Cunningham's partners won the last 104-112 away to the Pelicans. The Houston Rockets 4th in the Western Conference with a record of 26 wins - 16 losses are in the race for the best spots in the Western Conference, place themselves, initially maintain a top 4 and then do what the franchise failed to accomplish last year: win its first round of the Western Conference. Houston is in a good period despite this defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers in Pennsylvania last night 128-122 and remained on 3 wins in a row before this disappointment against the Wolves 110-105, the Pelicans 119-110 and the Spurs 111-106.

Sacramento Kings
Sacramento Kings
Leader of the Eastern Conference in the regular season for Kenny Atkinson's first year in charge of the team but beaten by the Indiana Pacers in the conference semi-finals 4-1. This year overall, Donovan Mitchell's franchise is expected to play the top 4 of the conference in the regular season with the aim of showing its muscles once in the Play-offs. The Cleveland Cavaliers, beaten 104-136 at the start of the week as part of MLK Day, took their revenge against the Charlotte Hornets 87-94 48 hours ago. The Sacramento Kings 14th in the West, 12 wins - 33 losses, will not catch up to play the Play-in, especially given the terrifying competition like the Mavericks 12th, 4 wins in a row, 19 wins - 26 losses and the Grizzlies 11th, 18 wins - 24 losses much better equipped to win a ticket for the Play-in. The Kings also lost their last 3 games in the NBA to the Portland Blazers 110-117, the Miami Heat 117-130 and the Toronto Raptors 109-122.

Boston Celtics
The Brooklyn Nets are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference 12 wins – 30 losses. The partners of Micha Porter Jr like a fish in water among the Nets this year, are gradually abandoning all their chances of playing in the Play-in. Let's be clear, this was in no way the franchise's goal at the start of the season, which is why the Nets don't really feel under pressure at the moment, although they lost their last 3 games in the NBA to the Chicago Bulls 124-102, the Phoenix Suns 117-126 and the Knicks 120-66 against whom they ate a historic sauce. Make way for the Boston Celtics whose behavior is impeccable despite the loss of Tatum for the season. It is without its superstar that Boston takes its position as runner-up in the Eastern Conference, just behind the incredible season of the Detroit Pistons. With Jayson Tatum potentially returning before the end of the regular season, Boston has a real shot to play in this Eastern Conference. Second 27 wins - 16 losses, the Celtics won their duel 119-104 in front of the Indiana Pacers in the last match.

The Atlanta Hawks 10th, 21 wins - 25 losses by remaining in this situation strongly expose themselves to the returns of the Milwaukee Bucks 11th, 18 wins - 25 losses and Charlotte Hornets 12th, 17 wins - 28 losses. It's hard for Atlanta to win games. A franchise which separated from T.Young the head of the dragon for 7-8 years, whose adjustments are clumsy at the moment like the 4 consecutive defeats in front of the Lakers, Blazers, Celtics and Bucks, before seeing the new team of CJ McCollum take a hell of a match against the Grizzlies 122-124. The Phoenix Suns are now 5th in the Western Conference. The Arizona players do not stop winning 27 wins - 17 losses, like the 3 consecutive victories over the NY Knicks with a score of 99-106, for a success against the Brooklyn Nets 117-126 and finally over the Philadelphia 76ers in the Wells Fargo Center. This game against the Hawks is the last of a 6-game road trip in the Eastern Conference for the Suns. To finish the poor form of the Lakers 6th, Wolves 7th, 4 defeats in a row and the injury of Butler for the season with the Warriors 8th is good news for the Suns.

New Orleans Pelicans
The Memphis Grizzlies 11th, 18 wins - 23 losses after losing to the Orlando Magic and the Wagner brothers 118-111 supported in Berlin, took their revenge by winning the second match in London 126-109. It was time for confirmation for the Memphis Grizzlies against the Atlanta Hawks, beaten 4 times in a row before their visit to Tennessee. The match will be as expected offensive and close, at the end of which the Grizzlies finally cracked at the end of the match 122-124. The New Orleans Pelicans 10 wins - 36 losses occupy last place in the Western Conference with almost dead hope of playing in the Play-in. The delay on 10th, LA Clippers 20 wins - 24 losses is enormous, and the motivation completely different like the 13 successes collected in 17 games for the Californians. And once again we are licking our lips at the current form of the Pelicans beaten 3 times in the last 3 games, 127-119 in front of the Pelicans, Rockets 119-110 and the Pistons 104-112.

L. A. Lakers
Winners 13 of their last 15 games in the NBA, James Harden's teammates traveled to the Chicago Bulls 48 hours ago with morale at 100%. What's more, Los Angeles had just won at the Washington Wizards 106-110 without Kawhi. Finally during this trip to the Bulls, we felt a team totally exhausted, unable to continue, and above all beaten 138-110 ending a series of 6 consecutive victories Nets, Pistons, Hornets, Wizards twice, and Raptors. The Clippers are 10th in the West 19 wins - 24 losses. The Los Angeles Lakers are fifth 26 wins - 16 losses in the Western Conference, still well in the running for the first 6 tickets directly qualifying for the rest of the adventure. They probably very secretly relished the injury to Jimmy Butler among the Warriors 8th who should soon mark time for good. If the Clippers lost to the Bulls last time, the Lakers are celebrating, winners of their last 2 games ahead of the Toronto Raptors 110-93 and Denver Nuggets 107-115.

Miami Heat
The Portland Trail Blazers 22 wins -22 losses are in balance even though they were promised hell, without Lillard, and regularly deprived of members of the starting 5. Yet Portland is irresistible with no fewer than 8 wins in the last 10 matches. His character is his greatest quality, like this series of 3 consecutive victories during which Portland began by beating the Atlanta Hawks 117-101, then the Los Angeles Lakers violently 132-116 and finally the Kings on the road 110-117 3 days ago.  5 defeats in the last 8 which make it difficult for the Miami Heat to take stock in this Eastern Conference. An overall record of 23 victories - 21 defeats is relatively low for a group which could benefit from a slow Eastern conference, however, like the 27 victories - 16 defeats of the second. A good series now could change the destiny of this season for the Florida franchise, victorious on the road at the Sacramento Kings with a score of 117-130 on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

San Antonio Spurs
The Utah Jazz players, 13th in the Western Conference with a record of 15 wins and 29 losses, are only 4 small wins behind the 10th place occupied by the Los Angeles Clippers, first ticket for the Play-in. So yes obviously the Jazz still have a chance to play him this Play-in, but that is not the ambition of the franchise a priori. On the other hand, the choice to eject some Sexton, Collins, Clarkson last summer, to make room for others, like Sensabaugh, author of 30 points or more in his last 4 games, or K.George 24.4 points on average, was a superb idea. After 4 defeats on the road, Utah was the clear winner over the Wolves 127-122 in its last match, for its return to its home court. The San Antonio Spurs second, 30 wins - 14 losses, runners-up to the OKC Thunder in the West, will have to work hard to keep this coveted 2nd place. Because in fact, this allows you to receive in the 1st round and conference semi-final. So why deprive yourself of it? With this in mind, Wembanyama and his friends had won their last three matches, against Milwaukee 119-101, Minnesota 126-123, and Utah 123-110, before falling against the Houston Rockets 111-106, a direct competitor.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, seventh in the Western Conference 27 wins - 17 losses, are on track to once again play in the Play-offs in May. The Timberwolves however, following a very good run and a place in the top 4 again last week, lost 3 games consecutively to the Houston Rockets 110-105, the San Antonio Spurs 126-123 and more problematically to the Utah Jazz 127-122. The Wolves paid cash for these 3 defeats, slipping to 7th place in the Western Conference. The Chicago Bulls 9th in the Eastern Conference, 21 wins - 22 losses will undoubtedly have to fight to the end with the Atlanta Hawks 10th and Giannis' Milwaukee Bucks 11th to play in the play-in. For now, the famous Taurus franchise had two games to negotiate, both at home, ahead of the Brooklyn Nets at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, and the Los Angeles Clippers, winners of 13 of their last 15 games. Good news! Chicago won both 124-102 and 138-110 respectively.

Golden State Warriors
The Dallas Mavericks, 12th in the Western Conference 18 wins - 26 losses, have been united since the injury of Anthony Davis. We would have thought we would see the franchise sinking quickly, but ultimately Cooper Flagg's Dallas holds up. The Mavs first took advantage of hosting the Utah Jazz twice. Double winners, the Mavericks at the same time dismissed a direct competitor in the Play-in 144-122 and 138-120, before taking over the NY Knicks at Madison 97-114. The Golden State Warriors, 8th in the Western Conference 25 wins - 20 losses, and on the upward slope, have just learned terrible news. While the Californians remained on 4 consecutive successes in the NBA, for victories over the Portland Trail Blazers 119-97, the New York Knicks 126-113, the Charlotte Hornets 136-116 and the Miami Heat 135-112, it was precisely in this meeting against his ex, that Jimmy Butler was seriously injured, leaving his teammates for the rest of the coming season. Terrible news for the Dubs, beaten by the Raptors last night 127-145 in the last game... and the first without Butler

Play-offs, not Play-offs this year for the 76ers, under what conditions, and with which team? Among Pennsylvanians, there are obviously many questions. They have the weapons, they have the names, the collective, but like Jo Embiid, it is too uncertain. The Cameroonian, although he won an MVP title in the regular season, has never played a conference final with the 76ers since his arrival in 2016. As a symbol, facing a team that is holding up, Philly once again bowed down by losing 110-116 against the Phoenix Suns 48 hours ago. The Houston Rockets, 4th in the Western Conference with a record of 26 wins - 15 losses, will initially secure a place in the top 4 and dream of top 2 because that changes everything in terms of the Play-offs. Singled out again last week for its numerous difficulties in coordinating its offensive game, often 3000% dependent on KD and Sengun, Houston reacted by winning its last 3 games. The first in front of the Timberwolves 110-105 deprived of A.Edwards it is good to underline it, then the other 2 in front of the Pelicans 119-110 and the Spurs of SA 111-106.

Charlotte Bobcats
First part of the season largely insufficient for a Magic franchise strengthened after the arrival of Bane but once again deprived of numerous captains throughout the months of October Banchero, November Banchero, December F.Wagner and January F.Wagner but also of its starting leader Jalen Suggs who only played half of the matches. When it finds its rhythm with a full squad, this Magic team will undoubtedly be dangerous. For now, the 7th in the East 23 victories - 19 defeats shows flawless irregularity. Like his recent trip to Europe, with a success in Berlin 118-111 but a defeat in London 126-109, each time against Memphis. The Charlotte Hornets, 12th in the Eastern Conference 16 wins - 28 losses, had their feet in the dust once again when confirming last night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was indeed a question of validating this XXL success acquired with the Denver Nuggets a little earlier 87-110. But the Hornets lost a bad match yesterday, unable to exceed 90 points at the end of a game marked by inefficiency supported by 33% shooting, 17% long distance. 87-94 defeat against very average Cavaliers.

Denver Nuggets
The Washington Wizards 14th, 10 wins - 32 losses, after a great spell at the beginning of January, have resumed their good old habits, namely losing, over time and without complaining. Because in fact, the Magicians of the Capital have lost their last 7 games in the NBA. The last 6 against teams from the West will be enough to disgust them. Washington surrendered to the Pelicans 107-128, the Phoenix Suns 112-93, the Clippers 119-105, the Sacramento Kings 128-115, the Denver Nuggets 121-115 and the LA Clippers again 106-110 on Monday. The Denver Nuggets third, 29 wins -15 losses are still without Nikola Jokic as has been the case for a few weeks now. A 100% focus time without its leader, Denver seems a little exhausted by this situation like the last 2 games, both lost: first against the Charlotte Hornets 87-110, then against the Los Angeles Lakers 107-115. Nothing alarming, however, before this trip this evening to the 14th in the Eastern Conference, after which two other away matches will follow against Milwaukee on Saturday and Memphis on Sunday.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
