NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Golden State Warriors
Golden State Warriors
Orlando 11th, 7 wins - 7 losses 2025-26 version is an attractive formation, inevitably expected in the top 4 of the Eastern Conference. But the start is bad without being very worrying. Indeed, the Magic must find structure and consistency in its game in order to seek more regular results. J.Mosley's men after 3 consecutive successes in the NBA Portland Trail Blazers 115-112, NY Knicks 107-124 and Brooklyn Nets 105-98 were not far from the feat among the Rockets on the road, but beaten in overtime 117-113. The Golden State Warriors take their place in the top 8 of the Western Conference. Eliminated in the Western Conference semi-finals last year, the Bay team intends to regain a place at the top of the conference basket. Following a period of hesitation, the "Dubs" finally found some bite thanks in particular to the return of Stephen Curry, who largely contributed to the two successes against the San Antonio Spurs 120-125, 108-109, compiling no less than 95 points over the 2 games. At the start of the week, without forcing too much, GS beat the Pelicans 106-124.

1 victory every 15 days for Brooklyn 13th in the Eastern Conference at the dawn of this game. A project that saw the light of day in 2012, Brooklyn has never really managed to seduce, to establish itself in the Big Apple, to become a serious candidate, a rival for the Knicks. That said, following 4 consecutive defeats in the NBA, Brooklyn challenged the Washington Wizards in the battle of the Eastern Conference dunces last weekend. At the end of a one-sided game, it was the Nets who left the floor with the 106-129 victory. The Boston Celtics 10th, 7 wins - 7 losses are experiencing a unique experience on their side, namely how to live without their superstar for several months consecutively. This year the Celtics will have a hard time showing consistency, but it is possible because in the past Boston temporarily managed to compose in the absence of Tatum. Except that this summer the leaders also conceded Jrue Holiday or even Kristaps Porzingis. It is a conquering Boston that nevertheless emerged victorious in its last 2 games, at home, 131-95 and 121-118 respectively against the Memphis Grizzlies and the LA Clippers.

Detroit Pistons
Finding any logic with the Atlanta Hawks 4th in the East is a real headache. This franchise, by losing T.Young more than 3 weeks ago, without knowing it, was finally going to find its balance. Not since its Eastern Conference final lost in 2021 has Atlanta played basketball so well. Fourth in the Eastern Conference 9 wins - 5 losses, "Gate City" has simply won its last 5 games, but above all, has just concluded a perfect road trip in the Western Conference 4/4 during which Atlanta ended with successes at the Utah Jazz 122-132 and Phoenix Suns 122-124. Detroit 1st in the Eastern Conference, 12 wins - 2 losses is comfortably installed in 1st place in its conference. Undefeated for 10 games, Motor City is completely unplayable. This series of 10 victories emerged after a success against the Orlando Magic 135-116, then continued with a 108-111 success on the road against the Philly 76ers. Focus at 3000% Detroit in the absence of Cade Cunningham has just won its last 3 NBA games Bulls 124-113, 76ers 114-105 and Pacers 127-112 proof that its balance does not depend on a single player but on an entire collective.

Memphis Grizzlies
The question was to know, in what state would V.Wembanyama and his little comrades find themselves after two consecutive losses against the Golden State Warriors? Indeed, Stephen Curry and his friends came for two trips to Texas last week, and cleared the place with two successes 120-125 and 108-109. Now San Antonio received the ideal opponent in order to revive itself, namely a team of stars, the Sacramento Kings, but totally disjointed. Without trembling, SA on the night from Sunday to Monday won the bet 123-110 without Wemby. It's the end of a cycle. The end of a story that never really started between the Memphis Bears and Ja Morant. The prodigy of the Grizzlies 2nd choice of the 2019 Draft, that of Zion will have made the headlines, much more for his behavior bordering on reasonable, than for his feats of arms on a basketball court. Indeed, he should leave soon, where this cannot continue, the situation in the ranking is bad. Memphis 12th, 4 wins - 10 losses is already very far, very far from 8th place 8 wins - 6 losses. Moreover, by falling to the Cavaliers 108-100, Memphis also lost Ja Morant for 2 weeks. When nothing goes right...

Utah Jazz
Utah Jazz
The Los Angeles Lakers fourth in the Western Conference 10 wins - 4 losses will have managed to stay the course spectacularly in the absence of LeBron James. Indeed if the King is on the way back, he will find a team that works well, carried by a duo Doncic 34 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and Reaves 28.3 points in all good shots. 8 victories in 10 games for LA, winner of its last 2 duels in the NBA against the NOLA Pelicans 104-118 night from Friday to Saturday and immediately against the Milwaukee Bucks 95-119. More than any other NBA franchise, the Utah Jazz have immense merit. Already rebuilding for years, the franchise based in the heights of Salt Lake City lost 3 of its top 5 last summer Clarkson, Sexton, Collins and now Walker Kessler injured for the season. It's far too much for a Jazz which despite everything keeps its head high, dignified, like this success against the alarming Chicago Bulls in recent days with a score of 150-147.

Phoenix Suns
The Portland Trail Blazers' start to the season was magnificent. Almost no false notes. But very paradoxically, it was only after a victory over the OKC Thunder 121-119 on November 6 - the only team currently that had managed to bring down OKC - that the house of cards collapsed. Portland since this feat has lost 4 times in 5 games, only 1 success against the pitiful formation of the Pelicans 117-125 on November 13, for two defeats in Texas recently against the Rockets 140-116 on Saturday, November 15 and Dallas 138-133 48 hours ago. Here too the story is good for the Phoenix Suns insofar as the departures have been very numerous like Durant and Beal. If the second was a monumental casting error that will cost the franchise dearly, the first named was there to win a title. Phoenix 8th, 8 wins - 6 losses is better than resisting, but as you can see with their ranking, a positive result will not ensure anything at all in the Western conference... And holding on like that over time for a Phoenix beaten 122-124 in its last match against the Atlanta Hawks 122-124, although deprived of Young and Porzingis, was a great poor performance.

Chicago Bulls
2nd in the Western Conference 10 wins - 2 losses, the Denver Nuggets are incredibly precise after 1 month of resumption in the NBA. Jokic and his friends have won their last 7 games in the NBA to remind us that this year we will once again have to count on them. They crushed the morale of some people. Like a magnificent victory on November 8 for the reception of the Golden State Warriors 129-104 and recently against the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-123 as part of a victorious trip to the Target Center. The Chicago Bulls, after getting off to a flying start, find themselves in a slightly more precarious situation. Indeed, in the space of a few days, the Illinois Bulls found themselves from 1st place to 9th place in the Eastern Conference. From 6 wins - 1 loss, to 6 wins - 6 losses with a very strong chance of going negative after this trip to Denver, it's tough for the Bulls beaten 24 hours ago on the road to the Utah Jazz 150-147.

Dallas Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks
False 6th in the Western Conference, Minnesota and Denver's last opponent are among the two big outsiders to win the Western Conference title this year. The first named lost in the final last year 4-1 and the 2nd not far from an XXL feat 4-3 by pushing the future champion OKC into a game 7 in the Western conference semi-final. That’s good! The two teams faced each other in the Target Center last weekend. And it was the Minnesota Timberwolves who cracked at the end of the round 112-123 in a fierce duel against Jokic's troop. A defeat after 4 consecutive victories for the Wolves however. Could we, at the start of the season, imagine a worse scenario than this for the Dallas Mavericks? You get the number 1 in the Draft, plus Anthony Davis present at the start of hostilities. And yet, Dallas, 14th in the Western Conference, last week fired Nico Harrisson, the GM responsible for Doncic's departure, and seems to be keeping Davis in the fridge to trade him, already emphatically announced by the Warriors. A terrible failure for Dallas 14th in the Western Conference but victorious against Portland 138-132 in a messy match after 3 consecutive defeats.

Arriving in such poor form in the Western Conference is unforgivable for NOLA, who quickly became the helpless little guy who gets his snack stolen at 10:00 a.m. recess. Defenseless, NOLA is eating boxes in every corner of the USA now, without complexes. Beaten 5 times in a row, the Pelicans first fell to the Spurs 126-119, then the Suns 121-98, then back home against the Blazers 117-125, facing the Lakers 104-118 and the Golden State Warriors 106-124. The thing to understand in this start to the season for the OKC Thunder is its ability to respond physically, to commitment, in the absence of his 2nd best player Jalen Williams and sometimes his 3rd best element Holmgren. Workforce decreased regularly but nothing disturbs the balance of the NBA champion, leader of the Western conference 13 wins - 1 loss and winner without forcing too much in his last match played 48 hours ago against the OKC Thunder 96-109.

What is this bomb straight from Ontario? Toronto plays at the forefront in this Eastern Conference, the level of play displayed is very impressive. Anything but a fluke for a patient franchise with Brandon Ingram last year. Arriving injured from NOLA, he did not play the end of the season, for a choice which is bearing fruit. Fifth in the Eastern Conference 8 wins - 5 losses, Toronto has won its last 3 duels in the NBA, all on the road. The first at the Brooklyn Nets 109-119, the second at the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-126 and another in front of the Indiana Pacers 111-129 to finish. 7 wins - 3 losses in the last 10 games for the Toronto Raptors, 2 wins in the last 10 games for LaMelo Ball's Charlotte Hornets. Last weekend the North Carolina franchise was not at all ridiculous, far from it, but it was impossible for them to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 147-134 after being massacred in overtime, or even at home against the OKC Thunder. Posting a total record of 4 wins for 9 losses, the Hornets had been remarkable defensively despite losing 96-109.

Having Tyller Herro on the floor since the start of the season in a more compact Eastern conference in recent months, achieving such a start to the season, after a schedule that is not easy to negotiate is a good thing for the Miami Heat top 8. However, last week was average for the Floridians. If it had ideally started with a stunning success against the Cleveland Cavaliers 140-138, the continuation was a little more unfortunate: 2 defeats against a Cleveland deprived of Mitchell and Garland during the revenge 116-130 and at the Knicks 140-132. The New York Knicks 2nd, 8 victories - 4 defeats suddenly increased the cursor. 6 victories in the last 7 matches for Mike Brown's men. Valuable successes in the race for 1st place as Detroit still does not weaken 11 victories - 2 defeats. Defeated last Thursday by the Orlando Magic of Franz Wagner 107-124, then NY took the measure of the Miami Heat in its den with a score of 140-132 in order to logically win the bet.

Milwaukee Bucks
The Cleveland Cavaliers are often a Kinder Surprise once they reach the Play-offs. Coach JB Bickerstaff had paid a high price when he was ousted a little less than 2 years ago and was criticized for his lack of bite in the Play-offs. Last year, Cleveland had a record season with the famous 15-0 to start the adventure before falling again too quickly. Big favorite for the title with NY at the start of the season, Cleveland currently occupies 3rd place 9 wins - 5 losses after its victory against Memphis 108-100. Alarming start to the extra-sporting season for the Bucks 8 wins – 6 losses. But on the floor, Giannis in “alone in the world” mode really seems to like this idea. Time for him to realize that he has lost Lopez, Middleton and Lillard, and here is his team returning for the war in the East. 48 hours ago, however, the Milwaukee Bucks lost heavily 95-119 to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Indiana Pacers
It's a fairy tale. A truly enchanted little story that JB Bickerstaff is telling us for the moment in his 2nd year at the head of this franchise. His team occupies 1st place in the Eastern Conference 11 wins - 2 losses ahead of the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, etc. Very recently, in the second part of last week, the signals sent do not really leave room for doubt. Detroit, deprived of Cade Cunningham, was able to tame the Bulls 124-113 and the 76ers 114-105. Finalist of the Eastern Conference last year, Indiana occupies after 4 weeks of recovery the 15th and last place with a record of 1 victory for 12 defeats. Only Stephen Curry's Warriors managed to fall in the Crossroads of America on November 2, 114-109. Otherwise, Indiana lost a lot again, and lost with relatively high score gaps. Among other things, the Pacers have lost the last 4 games by a margin of at least +18 in favor of their opponent, like the last one at home against the Raptors 111-129.

Some people would mention a trade for the first time of Jo Embiid within the franchise. The cornerstone of this project, the Cameroonian's physique is a real burden for his franchise. Judging firstly by his starving average playing time of 23 minutes of play, Embiid is a real problem for his troops at the moment. In the ranking, after a good start, Philly 6th, 7 wins - 5 losses has lost ground, like its last match lost last week to the Pistons deprived of Cunningham 114-105. Compared to the situation of the Sixers, that of the Clippers is even less enviable. Since the arrival of Kawhi 6 years ago, the problems never stop for the Californian franchise. Damned, she brought Beal back this summer, but he was finally OUT for the season injured last week. The results were already bad and the place of T.Lue coach would already be widely discussed within the franchise. 11th in the West, Los Angeles 4 wins - 9 losses, narrowly lost to the Celtics 121-118 a few hours ago. 8 losses in the last 10 games for the Clippers.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
