NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Indiana Pacers
Indiana Pacers
The New York Knicks second in the Eastern Conference 34 wins - 19 losses are in an excellent dynamic of 9 wins in the last 10 games. However for the moment it is insufficient to put pressure on the Pistons 1st, 39-13. This first for NY is fundamental in order to compete in the Play-offs more calmly. Sunday before the SuperBowl, the NY Knicks had a very big game by defeating the Boston Celtics with a score of 89-111 in the TD Garden. The Indiana Pacers 15th, 13 wins - 40 losses, lost their last 4 games, finishing a delicate season to negotiate for them. Indiana has never found its rhythm without T. Haliburton, its superstar, unlike Boston 3rd in the Eastern Conference without Tatum. However, when the Celtics can count on a great J.Brown almost every night, Siakam did not take his responsibilities as he should. Indiana, traveling last Sunday against the Raptors, did things the other way around again 122-104.

LA Clippers
LA Clippers
The Houston Rockets 4th in the West, 32 wins - 19 losses with the arrival of Kevin Durant automatically showed themselves to be ambitious and impatient. Because in fact last year after a 2nd place in the Western Conference obtained on merit, the defeat in the 1st round against Stephen Curry's Warriors 4-3 went badly in Texas, a direct consequence of the transfer Durant Phoenix --> Green Houston. Houston after two losses at home to the Celtics 93-114 and Hornets 99-109, reacted to the OKC Thunder on the road 106-112. The Los Angeles Clippers 10th, 25 wins - 27 losses are still negotiating the fantastic comeback operation. With Kawhi Leonard on board after the departures of James Harden and Ivica Zubac, Los Angeles will nevertheless have a lot to do in front of a top 7 in the West which has distanced itself like the record of the Suns 7th, 31 victories - 22 defeats. Forced to play flawlessly or almost flawlessly until the end, Los Angeles beat Minnesota on the road 96-115 last Sunday around 11 p.m.

Dallas Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks
The Phoenix Suns, seventh in the Western Conference 31 wins - 22 losses, are going through a slight slump which is not welcome given the situation in the top 6 in the West. In fact, the requirement is total, there is no room for error. However, the Suns lost 3 of their last 4 games, in front of the Clippers heavily at home 93-117, then for the reception of the Golden State Warriors 97-101, before sinking against the increasingly sharp Philly 76ers in the Eastern conf 103-109. To take the short sentence cited a little above concerning the stakes of the match, yes Dallas is moving away considerably from 10th place which is not part of franchise priorities. Firstly by deciding to part ways with Davis before the deadline in order to recover equipment to maneuver this summer, and secondly by losing no less than 7 consecutive games to the Lakers 110-116, Minnesota 105-118, Hornets 121-123, Rockets 111-107, Boston 100-110, Spurs 123-135 and Spurs a second time 138-125.

Oklahoma City Thunder
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Los Angeles Lakers 5th, 32 wins -19 losses, they are winning games at the moment. LeBron James' partners have won their last 3 duels. If the success against the Nets on the road in New York seemed obvious 109-125 for the Lakers, the latter increased the slider by winning the following matches in front of the Philadelphia 76ers 119-115 and the Golden State Warriors 105-99 at home in order to take place in 5th position. The pressure is growing on the shoulders of the OKC Thunder. Beaten 5 times in the last 8 games, the champion is at the same pace as the New Orleans Pelicans in the last 10 games. But what is even more problematic is the unavailability of SGA with which the Thunder must now deal. The Thunder star saw his partners fall to OKC 116-106 a few days ago and to the Houston Rockets on Saturday night 106-112. Two defeats in a row for the Thunder.

Philadelphia 76ers
With so little material available to the Blazers this season, a place in the top 10 and thus competing for play-in would be like a successful season. 10th precisely in the early morning, Portland has just offered itself two nice successes in the big league against Memphis twice 135-115 and 122-115. 2 victories which stopped a hemorrhage of 6 successive defeats against the Phoenix Suns 125-130, for the reception of the Cavaliers 111-130, on the floor of the Knicks 127-97, in the capital against Washington 115-111, at the TD Garden in Boston 102-94 and at home against Toronto 98-110. For its part, Philly plays arms within the top 6 in the East with a record of 30 victories for 22 defeats. Suffice to say that this 6th place Philadelphia team is not laughing on the road this season by holding the 2nd best record in the Eastern Conference with 15 wins for 9 defeats. The last victory on the road dates back to the last game played by the 76ers, against the Phoenix Suns 103-109. Before that, they had just lost their feet on the floor of the Lakers in a 119-115 defeat. Overall, Joel Embiid's partners have performed well in recent weeks with no less than 6 successes in their last 7 matches. Facing the Warriors on the road 94-113, in California at the Clippers 113-128 and at home for the receptions of the Pelicans 124-114, the Sacramento Kings 133-111 and the Bucks 139-122.

Memphis Grizzlies
Golden State, deprived of Jimmy Butler, has lost 6 of its last 9 games in the NBA. It's simply a disaster for a franchise as ambitious as Golden State. The second blow arrived after the announcement of the transfer of Porzingis which immediately put an end to any rumor concerning the arrival of Giannis. The Golden State Warriors traveling to the Lakers last weekend lost 105-99 in front of a team deprived of Doncic. Certainly 11th in the Western Conference, Memphis 20 wins - 31 losses nevertheless remains behind 10th Portland 25-28. A gap that became immense after Portland won its two direct confrontations in the Moda Center against the Memphis Grizzlies this weekend. The first match on Saturday turned into a disaster for Memphis 135-115, but during the second the franchise was well in its match. Ahead 97-104, Memphis did not keep up the pace, losing 122-115, dropping the last quarter 34-19.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Denver knows very well, like all the franchises present in the 1st part of the Western Conference table, there is a shot to play for 1st place. Occupied by the Thunder since the start of the year, it is in danger after the 5 defeats collected in 8 games by Chet Holmgren's partners. While OKC will also be deprived of SGA for another 2-3 weeks, San Antonio is putting pressure on by returning to only 3 defeats. For its part, Denver would like to do the same after ending a series of 3 defeats by winning against Chicago 120-136. The Cleveland Cavaliers, behind the Charlotte Hornets 9 victories in a row, are in great shape in the Eastern Conference. 10 wins in the last 12 matches allow Kenny Atkinson's men to return to the top of the table. Mitchell's partners even won their last 3 games in the NBA to climb to 4th place in the East. After a success on the road at Portland 111-130 and at the Clippers 91-124, Cleveland quietly continued its road trip with a success against the Kings 126-132.

Atlanta Hawks
A quick word to remind you that the Thunder is in difficulty, no longer has 5 defeats in 8 games but Minnesota is not taking advantage of it. Unfortunately for them, the Wolves are losing ground in 6th place in the Western Conference. The record remains very good 32 wins - 22 losses but moving forward is urgent, especially after losing the last two games to the New Orleans Pelicans 115-119 and the LA Clippers 96-115, however deprived of James Harden and Ivica Zubac who left the franchise. The Atlanta Hawks 9th, 26 wins -28 losses were the first to move a lot of things in the Eastern Conference. The movements around T.Young and then Porzingis have not gone unnoticed. Even if in fact Atlanta seems to have lost out, it got rid of two boys who were too often injured. 48 hours ago, a bit like everyone who crosses paths with the Hornets, the Hawks lost to LaMelo and his gang by a score of 119-126 at home. After two victories against Miami and Utah.

Sacramento Kings
The New Orleans Pelicans are 14th in the Western Conference 14 wins – 40 losses. The presence of injured starting leader Dejounte Murray would probably have changed things for the Pelicans but probably not enough to enter the race for the Play-offs. Because in fact, you have the Pelicans ultimately not that bothered by Zion's often disabling physical problems. For not much in the end, the Pelicans beat the Wolves 115-119 in doubt last Saturday after 3 consecutive defeats Phila, Charlotte, Milwaukee. The Sacramento Kings 15th, 12 victories - 42 defeats bring their total of defeats to 12 now. Everyone has been enjoying the Kings since mid-January. To tell you, even Washington won against the Californians a few nights ago 116-112. Following this setback which took place precisely last Monday, Sacramento received Memphis, Los Angeles and Cleveland in succession, against whom Sacramento fell 125-129, 111-114 and 126-132 respectively.

Utah Jazz
The Miami Heat, eighth in the Eastern Conference 28 wins - 26 losses, seems well on its way to fighting for the top 8. At a time when the favorites are making their mark, like the 10 wins in 12 games for 4th-placed Cleveland. For its part, Miami continues to sink into a form of irregularity. 2 wins and 2 losses in the last 4 matches and even 5 wins and 5 losses in the last 10. The Miami Heat, last weekend, managed to take the measure of the Washington Wizards on the road 101-132 after two defeats against Boston and Atlanta. The leaders of the Utah Jazz positively took their many fans on the wrong foot. The franchise, by parting ways with numerous Draft rounds including the first in order to get its hands on a highly coveted J.Jackson Jr, to send a very clear and clear message for next season. “We will play the top 8”. For the moment, Jazz is 13th in the West and has a series of defeats. Not far from winning, the Jazz fell twice against the Hawks 121-119 and Orlando Magic 121-119.

Chicago Bulls
The franchise from the famous borough of New York ended up cutting its best player last year, namely Cam Thomas. In Brooklyn, we obviously didn't find any interesting transfer for the 24-year-old winger... and we therefore decided to cut him free. It is the result of haphazard management but also a problem, that of a boy who is too often affected. On the parquet floors we keep it gray. After 3 consecutive defeats, the Brooklyn Nets hosted the Washington Wizards 48 hours ago against whom they won the bet with a score of 127-113 while the gap was much greater throughout the match. The Chicago Bulls, 11th in the Eastern Conference 24 wins - 29 losses, are in tough times after losing their 2 best players in the space of a few hours at the start of the season with the explosion of Giddey, at namely Coby White and his inner Nikola Vucevic. Chicago continues very poor performances. Beaten 4 times in a row, the Taurus franchise fell to the Heat 134-91, the Bucks 131-115, the Raptors 123-107 and the Nuggets 120-136.

Milwaukee Bucks
The pace set by this Orlando Magic team, 27 wins - 24 losses, is good... for 2 games. Because indeed for the moment this season is a total disappointment. Orlando, always present in the 1st round of the Play-offs for the last 2 years but not further, can it really continue in this perspective? The franchise only occupies 7th place, slightly behind in this regard by the 30 victories - 22 defeats of the 76ers. Orlando beat Brooklyn 118-98 on Friday, then the Jazz this weekend in pain 120-117. For the Milwaukee Bucks deprived of Giannis, the forecasts were bad. The loss of the Greek was announced in all the newspapers, a series of defeats was also to follow. Except that the Bucks took the deer by the horns. In addition to being able to congratulate itself on having kept Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee won no less than 3 consecutive games in order to regain some air in the race for the Play-offs, ahead of the Bulls 131-115, the Pelicans 141-137 and Pacers 105-99.

A first boss success with the Orlando Magic 97-124 to start, another in front of the Hawks 119-126 to finish, Charlotte won its last 9 games in order to climb into the top 10 of the Eastern Conference. A historic series for the franchise which notably beat at home the 76ers 130-93 and the Spurs 111-106, or even the Rockets 99-109 in the meantime. Significant victories and a record dynamic which allows Charlotte to now be 10th in the East. The other big surprise in the Eastern conference is a visit to North Carolina to challenge the Charlotte Hornets, winners of their last 9 matches. A mission that will have to be taken up by the Pistons who retain this great first place in the East 38 victories - 13 defeats. Cade Cunningham's teammates are solid before starting this match, victorious against the Nuggets 124-121 and the Knicks 118-80 last week, but strangely beaten against the Washington Wizards in the Capital in the meantime 117-126.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
