NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio Spurs
The Denver Nuggets 4th, 49 wins - 28 losses despite having had no less than 7 consecutive successes still cannot outrun the Houston Rockets 5th, 48 wins - 29 losses who are also very productive. Speaking of which, during this great winning streak, Denver was never really challenged. They hit the Jazz twice 135-129, 117-130, the Raptors 121-115 in the tough at the start of the series, the Warriors 116-93 or even the Mavericks 142-135. The reasons for hope to which the San Antonio people can attach themselves remain numerous. They will have the advantage of playing before the leaders OKC Thunder who will face the Utah Jazz on the night of Sunday to Monday. If successful this evening the Spurs will move to 60 wins - 18 losses, and the Thunder 61 wins will only have one small victory ahead. Which will face 4 franchises whose motivations are immense at the end of the season. The Spurs managed to put such pressure on the champion and won their last 11 games, the last of which at the end of a magnificent lesson against the Clippers 99-118.

Washington Wizards
Washington Wizards
10th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 40 wins and 37 losses, Miami has probably ruined its season in the last 2 weeks by falling no less than 8 times in 10 games. Indeed, at this stage of the competition, it was forbidden to lose that much. Miami will have all the trouble in the world to get out of this 10th place after 3 losses in the last 4 games. Beaten by Cleveland 149-128 in the revenge, at Indiana 135-118 ex-red lantern and recently in front of the Boston Celtics 129-147. Opposite the Washington Wizards fifteenth in the Eastern Conference 17 wins - 59 defeats are definitely in the right wagon to get a nice round of Draft in the perspective of next season. The goal is crystal clear for our friends in the Capital, namely to associate the young Coulibaly, Sarr, Carrington with the experience of Davis and Young; stir the pot then wait to enjoy. For now, it's hard for Washington, beaten 20 times in 21 games, precisely trampled against the 76ers 131-153 in the last match.

New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans Pelicans
Be careful for the Sacramento Kings because the reading is very different in comparison with other franchises whose problems promise to be enormous for next year, like Milwaukee and Brooklyn in the East, or Memphis in the West. Because in fact, although the Californian franchise is suffering with this 15th place in the West 20 wins - 57 losses, let's not forget the presence of LaVine, DeRozan and Sabonis. These guys, better surrounded, can hurt a lot. Or, there is a way to trade them to rebuild. Both options are on the table. For now, the Kings have achieved the feat of beating the Raptors 115-123 to end a series of 4 consecutive defeats. The New Orleans Pelicans, 12th in the Western Conference 25 wins - 52 losses, after winning a lot of matches in order to test what the pro year could look like, have generally let go of late. Indeed, the partners of Trey Muprhy III, Zion Williamson and Saddiq Bey lost their last 6 games in the NBA to the Cavaliers 106-111 at the start of the series, Pistons also 129-108, Rockets in NOLA 102-134 and last night at the Blazers 118-106.

Orlando Magic
Orlando Magic
Entering the Dallas Mavericks arena whose season has ended for a while now. Cooper Flagg's teammates quickly understood at the start of the season that the level of demands in the Western Conference was too high for them. Distanced, they quickly abandoned the project, preferring to play the Draft round like the rapid sidelining of K. Irving in the season at the beginning of February. Dallas 13th, 24 wins - 52 losses, lost its last 2 games against the Timberwolves 94-124 and Bucks 123-99. The Orlando Magic players, 9th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 40 wins and 36 losses, are currently in the race for the top 6 on the other side of America. Very disappointing season for the moment for the Magic expected in the top 4, but so handicapped by the injuries of Banchero, Suggs whose relapses are recurrent and Wagner. Beaten 8 times in the last 10 games, Orlando was broken by the Atlanta Hawks at home 101-130. Proof once again that things are going badly for the Magic who were still back to back after a great success against Phoenix 115-111.

Boston Celtics
It's over this season for the Milwaukee Bucks, who do not yet know what equipment they will start with next year. The Bucks are not happy, 11th in the East but well behind the top 10. This team should lose Giannis this summer. To replace him, good luck, especially given the level of the guys present to surround him. The Bucks 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30 wins - 46 losses are light years behind 10th Miami 40 wins - 37 losses. And they lost 5 times in 6 games to finish, precisely against the Rockets 119-113 last time 2 days ago. The Boston Celtics, for their part, should finish in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference, barring the end of a nightmarish season. Concretely, what does this position mean this year? The assurance of receiving in the 1st round and in the semi-final, we know that, but in terms of adversity? In the first round, in a 2nd VS 7th shock, Boston would very likely nab Charlotte or Toronto for a very salivating poster. Determined to keep this 2nd place, Boston won their last match 129-147 against the Miami Heat, a 4th success in their last 5 matches.

Toronto Raptors
Return next year in special conditions for the Grizzlies whose head of the snake has been broken into a thousand pieces over the months. Bane, then Jackson Jr, and soon normally Morant. Eleventh in the Western Conference 25 wins - 51 losses, it's a season to forget for Memphis whose last performances with a C team are not too interesting. Opposed to the Suns and the Knicks, the Grizzlies lost both, 105-131 and 119-130 respectively. The Toronto Raptors, seventh in the Eastern Conference 42 wins - 34 losses, are engaged in a mano a mano with the Philadelphia 76th in this race for 6th place. T.Maxey's partners, winners of the Wizards 48 hours ago, beat the Raptors who were victims of a terrible professional error during the last match. Indeed, after an understandable setback to the Pistons 127-116, falling at home to the Sacramento Kings 115-123 on the night of Wednesday to Thursday was simply unforgivable.

Utah Jazz
Utah Jazz
Second in the Western Conference last year but too soft in the 1st round in front of the Warriors 4-3, Houston had the firm intention of validating a place in the top 6 this year, in order to return for the Play-offs, and why not take revenge on last season. Under the leadership of Kevin Durant now, the Rockets 5th, 47 wins - 29 losses will try everything to validate 5th place, and they can even aspire to Denver's 4th place 49 wins - 28 losses. The Rockets recently took advantage of a relaxed schedule to beat the Grizzlies 109-119, Pelicans 102-134, Knicks 111-94 and Bucks 119-113. 4 in a row. Quietly placed in the 3rd part of the Western Conference table, the Jazz team has nothing more to hope for at the end of the season. It's been over for a long time for the partners of Lauri Markkanen, who was quite absent this year, having played only 42 matches in the end. To talk a little about what is happening on the NBA floors for the Utah Jazz 14th, the franchise flirts with the ridiculous. No less than 7 consecutive defeats in the NBA, most recently against 4 Play-off candidates like the Suns 134-109, Cavaliers 113-122 and Nuggets twice 135-129 and 117-130.

Chicago Bulls
Mike Brown's New York Knicks seem to be content with the bare minimum this year in the regular season. Indeed, apart from trying for 2nd place with an upcoming clash against current holder Boston next week, New York doesn't have much left to hope for. Indeed, 3rd or 4th place won't change much in the end. It might be worth eating the Pistons in the semis, rather than the Celtics who have been walking on water since Tatum's return. For now the Knicks have put an end to 3 defeats in a row Hornets, Thunder, Rockets by winning against Memphis 48 hours ago 119-130. The Chicago Bulls are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 29 wins - 47 losses. Josh Giddey's teammates, already greatly diminished by the departures of White and Vucevic, decided at the start of the week to part ways with Jaden Ivey for discriminatory comments. A heavy decision for the Bulls whose end of the season is an ordeal. Beaten 5 times in a row in the NBA, Billy Donovan's players first took a nice -15 against the Spurs 129-114 and then a -19 against the Pacers 126-145.

Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks
The big problem with the Brooklyn Nets is that they will start the year 2026-27 as they started 2025-26, namely with total uncertainty. We understand each other: among the Nets you have no nice Draft round apart from that of 2026, and no young people on whom we can build like Flagg Dallas, Knueppel Hornets, George Jazz, etc. Brooklyn is already favorite to regain 15th place in the East, beaten 9 times in the last 10 games, and last massacred by the Charlotte Hornets 86-117. The Atlanta Hawks, fifth in the Eastern Conference 44 wins - 33 losses, are on cloud nine. From 10th to 5th place in just 1 month of competition, thanks to 17 victories in 19 matches. The favorable results are now one after the other, Atlanta is no longer a surprise, the transplant with McCollum after the departure of Young was judicious. Tested during the last 2 matches, the ex-franchise of the leaping Dominique Wilkins hit the Boston Celtics 112-102 firstly, and the Orlando Magic 101-130 secondly.

Minnesota Timberwolves
The Philadelphia 76ers, who occupy 6th place in the Eastern Conference 41 wins - 34 losses, will do everything to keep this precious ticket in order to avoid going through the Play-in box. Because yes, the Play-in is very difficult to negotiate: your qualification is not assured, plus there will be a priori compulsory passage for the Sixers against Detroit or Boston in the 1st round of the Play-offs. Philadelphia obviously understood the message, then took advantage of the returns of its leaders, to win games 3 out of the last 4, notably winning in the last place against the Wizards 131-153. Opposite, the Minnesota Timberwolves are 6th in the Western Conference 46 wins - 30 losses and the big losers of the moment in the West. Reversing everything, changing the course of things was the priority for the Wolves of Gobert deprived again against the Detroit Pistons leaders in the East of their superstar Anthony Edwards. In a disputed money-time, Ant-Man was sorely missed by his partners at the moment he should not tremble. The Wolves lost 113-108 last night..., posting a 2nd setback in the last 3 games.

Indiana Pacers
The Charlotte Hornets have taken their destiny in their hands in 2026. LaMelo Ball's teammates have glowed up over the weeks to the point today of defending 8th place in the Eastern Conference, ahead of Orlando 9th and Miami 10th. A destiny that has changed thanks to boys such as Miller and Knueppel, while waiting for why not one day, a racket worthy of the back-court. In the race for the top 8, the North Carolina team won its last two games ahead of the Nets 86-117 and the Suns last night 127-107. The Indiana Pacers, on the street since the start of the season, recently gained 2 places in the Eastern Conference standings, going from 15th bottom to 13th position. To do this, the Indianapolis players first took the measure of a Miami team that was in the middle of the race for the Play-offs, winning 135-118. Before a second success this time on the road 48 hours ago against the Chicago Bulls 126-145. Victories which change nothing in terms of the ambitions, zero, for this end of the season.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
