NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Golden State Warriors
Things haven't been too bad for the Lakers lately. Left behind for a while in the race for the top 4, the good news continued for the King's partners. Indeed, OKC 1st recently lost SGA, Denver 3rd its last 3 games and Houston 4th the last two. 5th after overtaking the Wolves, Los Angeles returned to the race by winning their last 2 meetings in the NBA ahead of the Brooklyn Nets in the first 109-125 and against the Philly Sixers 119-115 in the second. The Golden State Warriors, 8th in the Western Conference 28 wins - 24 losses, are doing everything in reverse. There was talk of a potential arrival of Giannis, ultimately it was Porzingis who landed. We were talking about a team cut out for the top 4, ultimately Butler's recent injury should impact ambitions. Since Jimmy B's injury, Golden State has lost 5 of its last 8 games in the NBA, but still won on the road against the Phoenix Suns in the Dubs' last match 97-101.

Philadelphia 76ers
The hit of the year in this Western conference occupies 7th place. Winner of 4 of its last 6 duels in the NBA, Phoenix especially had the opportunity to test itself against the Detroit Pistons for a magnificent victory with a score of 114-96, another in front of the Cleveland Cavaliers 126-113, and away to the Blazers 125-130. On the other hand, they lost the last one to the Warriors deprived of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler 97-101. The Philadelphia 76ers sixth in the Eastern Conference 29 wins - 22 losses are in a very good dynamic. Indeed, Jo Embiid's partners have won 5 of their last 6 in the big league. On a road trip for 7 games, Philly began its adventure with a magnificent success against the LA Clippers 113-128, before bringing down the Warriors 94-113 and losing on the other hand to the Lakers 119-115 in the Crypto.Com despite Doncic's early injury in the match 16'.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Aren't the Sacramento Kings going to get burned by the league for abusive tanking? Indeed, it's starting to do a lot. Since January 19 and a defeat at home to the Portland Trail Blazers 110-117, Sacramento has then lost all its matches, no less than 11 in a row. The Californian players were not far from breaking this series against the Clippers last night, but that was without counting on a poorly controlled end of the match, for a new defeat with a score of 111-114. Opposite, the Cleveland Cavaliers are 4th in the Eastern Conference 31 wins - 21 losses. Cleveland returns to an XXL level of play, almost similar to that of the 2025-26 regular season. No less than 8 successes in the last 10 matches have allowed the Cavaliers to move back into the top 4 of the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers 3 nights ago destroyed the Los Angeles Clippers by a score of 91-124. A good omen against the Kings who have lost all their matches for several weeks.

Memphis Grizzlies
The Portland Blazers 10th, 24 wins - 28 losses, in the positive 2 weeks ago again, find themselves in difficulty today after a series of 6 consecutive defeats in front of the Toronto Raptors 98-110, the Boston Celtics 102-94, the Washington Wizards 115-111, the NY Knicks 127-97, the Cleveland Cavaliers 111-130 and finally the Phoenix Suns 125-130. But the Blazers found their smile again last night for the first reception of the Memphis Grizzlies with a score of 135-115. The Memphis Grizzlies 11th, 20 wins - 30 losses made choices before the deadline which suggest a much lower ambition to finish. Indeed, after losing Jaren Jackson Jr it is hard to see the Tennessee Bears doing miracles now. Last night for the first post deadline, Memphis fell to the Portland Trail Blazers 135-115.

Denver Nuggets
This is a bit what we feared with the Chicago Bulls. Winners of the first 5 games and therefore leaders of the Eastern Conference, the magic did not last forever for a franchise marked by the departures of LaVine and DeRozan. Quickly overwhelmed, Chicago had slipped to the top 4, top 6, top 10 recently and now in 11th place after a series of 3 consecutive defeats to the Miami Heat 134-91, the Milwaukee Bucks 131-115 and the Toronto Raptors 123-107. The departures of Vucevic and White announce the end of all ambition. The Denver Nuggets 3rd in the West, 33 wins - 19 losses arrive here with the firm intention of reacting. Fortunately for the Nuggets that the Rockets, just behind 2 defeats in a row, did not take advantage of the situation to make the difference because the Colorado players are in great difficulty at the moment, beaten in their last 3 games played in the NBA. Against the OKC Thunder 111-121, Detroit Pistons 124-121 and NY Knicks 134-127.

Charlotte Bobcats
The Atlanta Hawks 26 wins - 27 losses, ninth in the Eastern Conference, have changed things to make the Play-offs this year and imagine a happy future. Indeed, the group has changed. In Atlanta, Porzingis was moved to make room for the growing Okongwu, without forgetting the departure of Young to make room for Johnson and Alexander-Walker. Ninth in the East 26 wins - 27 losses, Atlanta beat the Miami Heat 115-127 and the Utah Jazz 121-119 last. Opposite the Charlotte Hornets 10th in the Eastern Conference have been unplayable for more than 2 weeks. Charlotte has never won 8 consecutive games in the 21st century. The last time this happened was in the 98-99 season. This shows how much we are starting to dream in North Carolina this year, even more so when we take a closer look at the identity of the franchise's opponents. Charlotte beat the Spurs 111-106 last Saturday and then the traveling Rockets 99-109 in their last match.

The players of the Orlando Magic 7th in the Eastern Conference, 26 wins - 24 losses had two good matches last week in front of the Miami Heat in the derby 124-133 and the Toronto Raptors 130-120 at home, still a member of the top 4. But then visibly not ready for trips to the Spurs and the Thunder against whom they lost respectively 112-103 and 128-92, Orlando finally won putting the Brooklyn Nets in front with a score of 118-98 in its last match. The leaders of the Utah Jazz 13th in the West were very intelligent in their way of approaching the rest. The 2-3 year rebuild around Markkanen, Clarkson, Sexton and Collins didn't work. Therefore this summer, they took the bull by the horns by separating from the last 3 named against mainly Draft rounds. The latter were taken advantage of during the February deadline to recover Jackson Jr so that he forms a monstrous racket with Markkanen upon his return Walker should go 5, Jackson Jr 4 and Markkanen 3. On the other hand for this 2025-26 season it doesn't smell good for a Jazz beaten a 7th time in 8 games by the Hawks 121-119.

Dallas Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks
Let's start by talking about the case of SA Spurs, 2nd in the Western Conference 35 wins - 16 losses. The Texans, long in a defensive position with respect to this 2nd place, can perhaps look ahead now. For what ? Everything happened very quickly. Indeed, the Spurs after a success against the B team of the OKC Thunder 116-106 in the middle of the week, did not suspect for a single second how long the duration of unavailability of SGA was going to be 3 weeks. San Antonio is only 4 small defeats behind 1st place, anything is possible, especially after a 1st success against the Mavericks 123-135 a few hours ago. The Dallas Mavericks 12th, 19 wins - 32 losses still have a timid chance of playing in the Play-in this summer. To do this, we will still have to stick to the XXL record of the Blazers 24-28. Nothing is impossible for a franchise freshly orphaned by Davis, but the ambition is in no way to reach the post-season. To see in time in any case, for a Dallas beaten 6 times in a row, precisely ahead of the Spurs in the last match 123-135.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
