NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Detroit Pistons
Before getting to the heart of the matter concerning this game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Pistons, a little focus on the form of the Cleveland Cavaliers which is radiant. Following a start to the season marked by injuries to Garland, Mobley, Allen for 1 month and sometimes Mitchell, the 2016 champion regained attractiveness with 3 very big victories in front of the San Antonio Spurs 101-113 in Texas at the start of the week, then at home in front of the members of the top 8 in the West, Phoenix 129-113 and Denver 113-108. The Detroit Pistons 1st, 25 victories - 9 defeats have decreased in intensity and fortunately for them New York behind is experiencing a singular decline, 3 defeats in a row. If the Knicks did not take advantage of the 3 defeats collected in the last 4 games by the Pistons, the top 6 of the Eastern Conference has moved considerably closer like Cleveland and Boston, both undefeated this week. Detroit must react after this defeat at home against a Miami Heat who were deprived of their best player Tyler Herro, 112-118.

Indiana Pacers
Indiana Pacers
The Orlando Magic occupies 7th place in the Eastern Conference 19 wins - 16 losses, sharing a record similar to that of its great rival Miami which precedes it in 8th. For the Magic to speak raw, it's the image of a guy who will tell you. “I have some good news, and I have some bad news.” Let's start with the good one. For a team deprived of Banchero, then Suggs recently returned and Franz Wagner for a very long time, holding 7th place and a positive record is not so bad. The bad news is that the Magic's delay in the franchise's top 4 goal is getting bigger and bigger, day after day. Especially when you lose to the Bulls deprived of Giddey and White as was the case 48 hours ago, 121-114. Indiana 15th in the East 6 wins - 29 losses will not recover this year. Several things are wrong. If we had to graduate them. Firstly, Haliburton's injury for the season changes the appearance of the latter. Second, dumping Myles Turner on the Bucks this summer really wasn't a good idea. And third, Siakam confirms that he is an excellent lieutenant, but not a captain. Indiana continued to finish, with an 11th defeat in a row for the reception of the San Antonio Spurs 113-123 deprived of Victor.

Denver Nuggets
Denver Nuggets
The Brooklyn Nets 13th, 10 wins - 22 losses following a magical period during which they beat Toronto, Philly and Minnesota, quickly fell back into their ways. Indeed, for a team whose poor start no longer really allows it the right to make mistakes, losing the first time at home against Golden State in back-to-back 107-120 hurts a lot, a second time against the Houston Rockets 96-120 too, but not the right to lose by 20 points against the Wizards 119-99. Opposite, the Denver Nuggets 3rd, 23 wins - 11 losses must concentrate all on their strengths on this type of match from now on. Because in fact, with no less than 4 starters on the floor, including Nikola Jokic, the current 3rd in the Western Conference needs to maintain its status. For now, logically Mile Hile City is being shaken up, beaten 3 times in the last 4 NBA games. A missed pass in Florida ahead of Orlando 127-126 and Miami 147-123, a rebound in Toronto 103-106, for a new setback with honors 113-108 against the Cavaliers.

Boston Celtics
Nobody is doing better than the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA over the last 10 days. No less than 6 consecutive successes for Californians on the verge of the top 10 now, in 11th place 12 victories - 21 defeats. The mission is far from over, however, like this negative assessment, but it's super interesting for LA which finally seems to be launched. The franchise started this series with a success against the Lakers in the derby 103-88, then against the Rockets 128-108, the Blazers on the road 103-119, the Pistons leaders in the East 112-99, demonstration in front of Sacramento 131-90, and finally big victory against the Jazz 118-101. A success which took shape during the 4th QT. The Boston Celtics, who are 3rd in the Eastern Conference 21 wins - 12 losses, arrive this evening on the floor of the best NBA franchise in the last few matches. However, nothing to shame the Celtics having a good lead on the 4th 3 defeats less. In front of more modest formations, the Celtics' road trip to the West is going not too badly for the moment. After an inaugural defeat in Portland, Boston recorded 2 successes ahead of the Utah Jazz 119-129 and the Kings 106-120.

Utah Jazz
The Golden State Warriors 8th, 18 wins - 17 losses are having a tricky season to say the least because expectations were very high after 3 months with Butler arriving last February. Indeed, under his leadership, Golden State had played a conference semi-final lost against the Wolves but for the moment, at a time when the top 7 had distanced itself with the image of 20 victories - 14 defeats, Golden State surrendered yesterday either for the reception of the OKC Thunder with a score of 94-131 in a match where Green, Curry and Butler were OUT. Opposite, the Utah Jazz occupies 12th place in the Western Conference 12 wins - 21 losses with a very modest chance of making the Play-in. Modest in many respects to the extent that the Jazz, already in overdrive, would be ready to send Markkanen to be traded to rebuild. The captain of the Finnish team will be one of the biggest attractions of the upcoming trade period. In the meantime, the Utah Jazz surrendered 48 hours ago in front of a team that crushed everything in its path, the Clippers 118-101.

Houston Rockets
Are the Dallas Mavericks 12th, 12 wins – 23 losses ready to challenge Houston? Not really, if Dallas had won the previous derby at home on December 7, 122-109, since Cooper Flagg's franchise has been in trouble, reflecting the 4 consecutive defeats recorded by the franchise. Dallas still lost against the Sacramento Kings 113-107 in the absence of Anthony Davis, and the last match in front of the 76ers for the return of AD in the starting 5, 108-123. The Houston Rockets arrive in this derby with a good 3rd place to defend. The Texans 21 wins - 10 losses are in good shape and are benefiting from a very nice end to the calendar in recent days, during which the Texan team took the scalp of the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Eve 96-119, the Cleveland Cavaliers then 117-109, then the Indiana Pacers 126-119 and finally the Brooklyn Nets 96-120.

Portland Trailblazers
The San Antonio Spurs 2nd, 25 wins - 9 losses is tough, 2nd in the Western Conference now. Much more than respected, the main mission was to qualify for the Play-offs. And for now it is clearly going the way for V.Wembanyama and his playing friends. In addition to the 3 highly publicized consecutive successes against the OKC Thunder, San Antonio has also won 8 of its last 10 matches, including the 2 most recent against the NY Knicks 134-132 and in a second phase against the Indiana Pacers 113-123In a Western conference ultra-dominated by a top 7 which leaves no room In doubt, like the gap between 7th Phoenix 20 wins - 14 losses and 8th Golden State 18 wins - 17 losses, Portland occupies a good 10th place with a record of 15 wins - 20 losses. It is beautiful and deserved insofar as R.Rupert's partners were expected between the 13th and 15th, rather than towards the Play-in. Portland, winner of 3 of its last 4 games, took the measure of New Orleans in the last place: 109-122.

Charlotte Bobcats
The Chicago Bulls will continue this evening with a 6th consecutive game at home. A move to the United Center that Chicago is negotiating with great gusto for the moment. Indeed, the Chicago Bulls 9th, 17 wins - 17 losses win the matches and continue to advance. The week began Tuesday with a setback against the Minnesota Timberwolves 101-136, continued with a great reaction against the Pelicans 134-118 despite the absences of Giddey and White, to end with this victory last night against Orlando 121-114 a top 6. Opposite the Charlotte Hornets 11 wins - 23 losses lost a match in the money-time last night against the Milwaukee Bucks. Everything started well for LaMelo Ball's Charlotte Hornets in this game, notably with a perfect first quarter won 24-38, before seeing them lose the next 3 27-22, 36-31 and 35-30 to finish. A defeat once again very rotten Charlotte 12th, the 3rd in a row after setbacks in front of the Warriors 125-132 and Bucks already 113-123.

Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks
Although this team has achieved great feats this year in the NBA, Toronto has nonetheless remained a very fragile franchise on its home soil in the NBA for several weeks. The observation is overwhelming, the Toronto Raptors have lost precisely 6 of their last 8 games on Canadian soil. Like this very difficult defeat to take 48 hours ago in the Scotiabank against the Denver Nuggets deprived of Jokic, Gordon, Braun, Johnson, and a Valenciunas injured during the match, 103-106. The Atlanta Hawks are super inconsistent. After a series of 7 consecutive defeats, the Hawks have just won their last 2 games, and not just anyone. Because in fact, the Hawks destroyed two franchises among the main outsiders for the NBA title, namely the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 1, 126-102 and then the New York Knicks in Madison Square last night, 99-111. To be honest, although Atlanta has a back-to-back to negotiate tonight, their victory against the Raptors cannot be ruled out.

Philadelphia 76ers
The New York Knicks 2nd in the East, 23 wins - 10 losses missed the mark in their attempt to seize 1st place from the Detroit Pistons who have slowed down after an exceptional start to the season. An obvious lack of consistency and two worrying defeats for the winner of the last NBA Cup. After an intense setback to Victor Wembanyama's Spurs 134-132, the Knicks fell at home to the Atlanta Hawks 99-111 last night in a one-sided game. The Philadelphia 76ers, fifth with a record of 18 wins - 14 losses, are still in the race for the top 4, the best spots for the Play-offs. But seeing this team in the conference semifinals right now seems particularly utopian. Because in fact this year, consistency is not the strong point of the Pennsylvanians, beaten 3 times in a row by the Nets, Bulls and Thunder before returning to the forefront with successes away from home against the Memphis Grizzlies 136-139 and the Dallas Mavericks 108-123.

Have the Magicians of the Capital 9 victories - 24 defeats bewitched Santa Claus? A question to which we have no answer, but one thing is certain, the magic of the holidays allowed Washington to win for the first time in ages no less than 4 times in 5 games, and a little credit. The performance is quite astonishing to the extent that only Boston, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Miami are tied with the Wizards in the last 5 games? Washington had beaten Toronto at home 138-117, the Grizzlies 116-112, the Bucks 113-114 and in the last match the Wolves 115-125. A 6th place in the West is not a success in itself for a team such as Minnesota 6th, 22 wins - 13 losses, except that this franchise in its past has achieved great feats despite a low ranking. flattering. Indeed, the Wolves played in the final last year after finishing in 6th place in the regular standings. So ultimately this nice little rhythm in the Western Conference suits Minnesota which will be almost back-to-back this evening after beating Miami at 11:00 p.m. last night with a score of 115-125.

After no less than 4 consecutive successes in the NBA in order to assert a certain presence in the first part of the table in the East, the Miami Heat had a meeting with the Timberwolves last night in the Kaseya Center. Victories over the Atlanta Hawks 111-126, then the Indiana Pacers 142-116, then the Denver Nuggets 147-123 before a boss victory at the Detroit Pistons 112-118. Continuing with the Timberwolves was not a gift, Miami still orphaned by T. Herro surrendered with a gap of +10 for the visitors 115-125Put yourself for two seconds in the shoes of a franchise like New Orleans at this time of the season. Your 15th place is a hindrance, and should prevent you from playing in the Play-offs. But even more, this franchise seems doomed to a slow and gradual reconstruction, with several departures to come. The leaders know that by keeping the 15th or 14th place, New Orleans recovered a good little round of Draft, preparing a reconstruction. In any case, once again the project around Zion Williamson does not work, the latter was even relegated to the bench. NOLA has just lost its last 6 duels in the NBA Cavaliers, Suns twice, Knicks, Bulls, Blazers

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
