NBA News and Predictions

Roughly a month into the newest edition of the NBA season and already there are plenty of storylines that fans need to know about. While it may have seemed like we got everything figured out before the start, many of the early predictions fell through as some rather unexpected developments took place. Injuries are already piling up, expected contenders are struggling, and there is an overall feeling of uncertainty and unfamiliarity because of these unexpected factors. One thing is certain: it is still rather exciting to see the best of the best go at it night in and night out.

Because of all this, it is not easy for someone deeply invested in the best that basketball has to offer. No longer can you watch a game and know full well who is taking it before it actually finishes. Anything can happen and a bunch of stuff is happening. So how can an average fan of the NBA, or more importantly, an online sports betting enthusiast, prepare for a full slate of games? Is it possible to do enough research and should you trust the odds the bookies make? To these and other questions, we give answers in the following guide. Read on if you love basketball for the newest news, speculations, and predictions.

Struggling Playoff Teams

Two of the bigger stories deal with teams that were expected to make early pushes for the top of the standings and eventually make a deep playoff run. These are mainly the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Considering the names in their ranks and their past success, one of them more so than the other, they should be good for most of the season, right? Well, it seems like that will not be the case this season. It is already looking very bad for them and we have barely scratched the surface.

Let us start with Philly. The City of Brotherly Love has been Trusting the Process for years now, but alas, it was to no avail. After numerous disappointments and experiments with stars past their prime, Joel Embiid somehow won an MVP and everyone’s spirits were high. Then, of course, his injuries continued as he was still unable to finish a season and take the team past the second round. Now, he has yet to play a single game this season. He was involved in two controversies already.

First, he said that if it were up to him, he would never play in back-to-back games until the end of his career. For this, the league launched an investigation into Philadelphia’s conducting of player absences. Then, the shoved a reporter in the locker room and got suspended for three games. And all of this after missing the first few games due to injury. It cannot get any worse, can it? Well, Tyrese Maxey is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Paul George is a bit rusty after missing the first several games of the season. All in all, the 76ers are one of the worst teams right now with a 1-7 record and dead last in the Eastern Conference. Betting against them would not be a bad idea going forward.

Right above them with an abysmal 2-7 record are the Milwaukee Bucks, who, compared to Philly, are not struggling with any drama or major injuries to their stars. Sure, Khris Middleton is absent still and is yet to appear this season, but they are used to it by now. Their struggles come from a few other places. First off, it does seem like Doc Rivers is the greatest fraud in NBA coaching in the last 20 years. Since he took over, everything has gone downhill. Losing Jrue Holiday and getting Damian Lillard proved like a mistake as the team is struggling mightily on the defensive end and the duo of Giannis Antetokiunpo and Lillard cannot carry the entire offense on their own. If one of them misses a game, it is a definite loss, and they do tend to miss a game from time to time.

The lack of help from the bench as well as the remainder of the starting five is simply not enough to compete in the East right now. Other teams are younger, faster, and more talented, while the Bucks are the oldest team in the league with an average age of 30.4 years. All you need to know about their roster struggles is the fact that they are playing a 36-year-old Brook Lopez for 30 minutes a game. There is no end in sight to their struggles and Giannis constantly appears in trade rumors. It would be one of the biggest shakeups in the history of the league if or when the Bucks make a move. This cannot go on for much longer as frustration is already at a peak.

Cavaliers are for Real

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers who have run out of the gate to start the season and kept on sprinting. Throw a hurdle at them and they will clear it by a mile. Nothing seems to be phasing them as they opened the new campaign with a 10-0 and it seems like there is no end in sight to their amazing stretch. This is the best start in franchise history, and we are talking about a team that is synonymous with LeBron James. At the moment, Stake gives them the odds of 19.00 to take the title, with 7 other teams in front. Capitalizing now would be an amazing wagering foresight and they could very well do it.

Donovan Mitchel
~Donovan Mitchel

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland are leading the backcourt while the twin towers of Evan Mobley and Jarret Allen are anchoring the post. Such a combination of size and speed, offense and defense, is not present in many other teams. Add a constant threat from beyond the arc from the likes of Max Strus, Caris LeVert, Sam Merrill, and Isaac Okoro, and you have a well-rounded team poised for greatness. Betting on the Cavs is one of the surest things in basketball right now so be sure to ride the wave until it lasts. It is a good time once again to be an NBA fan in Cleveland.

Phoenix, Thunder, Celtics on a Roll

This assortment of contenders is doing their thing to open the season as all three teams are great right now. The Phoenix Suns are atop the Western Conference with an 8-1 record, same as the second-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jusuf Nurkic are leading the way as the team is winning games, both close and lopsided, and finally playing well together. The chemistry of OKC is unmatched and it is just so good to watch the guys interact with each other and play so well together. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are leading the way and their supporting cast is unlike anything else in the league. They could be ready for that final push come playoff time.

In the East, right under the mighty Cavs is the defending champion, the Boston Celtics. With the odds to take another title and cement the dynasty being 3.60, they are still the bookies’ favorites. However, many teams are off to an amazing start and could ruin their best chance at a repeat in almost 4 decades. Jason Tatum is playing like an MVP, again, and several guys are coming into their own, especially Payton Pritchard. With Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis down with injuries, the Cs have not yet taken out their best starting five onto the court this season. It is a scary thought to have but there is no saying how good they will be when the gears start turning midway through the season.

Numerous Early MVP Candidates

After the first two weeks, the MVP battle looked nothing like we expected it to. Some names appeared there that no sane person would think of. For example, two Clippers players are incredible right now, but none of them are named James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. It is Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac who have been carrying the load and are the main contributors to the positive 5-4 record of a team who were supposed to be where the Bucks and Philly are right now. Zubac is averaging 16.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while Powell is playing out of his mind with 25.7 points per game.

The Sacramento Kings hoped for a better start than their current 5-4 record, but there is a lot to be optimistic about right now. They have three players averaging more than 20 points per game. De’Aron Fox is leading the way with 24.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. DeMar DeRozan is currently at 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Domantas Sabonis is averaging 20.6 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game and has already had several triple-doubles.

Speaking of the Lithuanian superstar, he has had one of the best games in history, a perfect game as many called it. In their November 6 win over the Toronto Raptors, he did something nobody else has. Pay attention. He had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. He added 1 steal to it. But the great thing about it is that he shot 100% from the floor, 6/6, 100% from the free throw, 5/5, and did not have a single foul or turnover! Such a game is unheard of and it is a testament to how the new, non-American players (Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Luka, Shai) are changing the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the 7th spot with a 5-4 record after opening the season in big fashion. With big stories surrounding them, none bigger than Bronny James and the new coaching staff led by JJ Reddick, they are handling the business well enough. LeBron James says he plans to play all 82 games this season, something he has only done once in his 22-year-long career. That is promising as the team needs all he can give them, and he is delivering amazingly well for a soon-to-be 40-year-old.

However, it is Anthony Davis who is leading the way and making an early push for the MVP. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game on 57% shooting. These are MVP numbers and should he be able to play enough games, it could be his year. He is also delivering on the defensive end so it could be a battle between him and Victor Wembanyama for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

New York Knicks
In the space of a few hours, the Detroit Pistons found themselves awkwardly under pressure. The leaders of the Eastern Conference hosted the 14th placed Washington Wizards last night against whom they should logically win. However, the Pistons carried out a very bad operation by losing with a score of 117-126 after successes against Denver 124-121 and Brooklyn 130-77. This defeat allows NY to reduce its gap in 1st place before this duel. Without transition the NY Knicks 8 victories in a row just like Charlotte Hornets 8 victories are also unplayable at the moment. After a difficult slump to negotiate, NY found its way to victory by winning its last 8 duels in the big league. The series began after a success against the Nets in the derby 120-66, a victory also in Toronto on January 29 92-119, another success against the LA Lakers 112-100, and more recently in pain in front of the 2023 champion the Denver Nuggets 134-127 after overtime.

Miami Heat
The Boston Celtics 3rd are on fire. This is the best period we are witnessing in their favor, because not only are they winning matches, but they are hitting very hard. After beating the Sacramento Kings 112-93 and the Milwaukee Bucks 107-79 at home, the Boston Celtics traveled to Texas to play two games in the Western Conference. If the first in front of the Mavericks was a 100-110 formality for a Boston in form, 24 hours later, Boston delivered a demonstration against the Rockets 93-114. The Miami Heat no longer move from this 8th place in the Eastern Conference 27-25. It's very complicated for the Heat to find their rhythm even though the group has talented players. The absence for almost 7 weeks of Tyler Herro franchise player is also paid in cash. Very irregular, the Florida team remained on a success against the Bulls 134-91 before hosting the Hawks in an important match for the race for the Play-offs. Unfortunately, the Heat lost the bet 115-127.

Indiana Pacers
On the front page of all the newspapers they only talked about him. He was on the shelves of several franchises, including Golden State, San Antonio and even Miami, but ultimately, the Greek monster, a living legend in Wisconsin after a title won with his favorite franchise ahead of the Suns 4-2 in 2021, will stay in Milwaukee at least until the end of the year to try for Play-in. Milwaukee 20 wins - 29 losses is in 12th place in the East, winner of its last 2 games against the Bulls 131-115 and Pelicans 141-137. The Indiana Pacers 15th, 13 wins - 38 losses towards the end of February should no longer have any mathematical chance of playing in the Play-offs. However, next year will be different in many ways. The band coached by Rick Carlisle made a superb move at the end of the trade period by recovering the great I.Zubac. His presence was desirable to fill the void left this year by Myles Turner at position 5. Finally, the bottom of the Eastern Conference lost to the Rockets 114-118 and Jazz 122-131 in the last 2 games.

New Orleans Pelicans
The Minnesota Timberwolves 6th in the Western Conference 32 wins - 20 losses have their fangs heading into this match. Winning and continuing is imperative now for the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to take their place in the top 4. Last year with 6th at the end of the regular season the franchise reached the final of the conference, but in order to make the task easier this year, arriving in the top 4 at the start of the Play-offs would be great news. In this sense, the Wolves 48 hours ago won their last match against the Raptors 126-128. Opposite the New Orleans Pelicans are 14th in the Western Conference 13 wins - 40 losses. The presence of Dejounte Murray as the starting leader would probably have changed things for the Pelicans but overall this group is too tight for a Western conference that is too demanding. Nothing really changed during the trade anyway. It is with the same team that New Orleans will go to war for the remaining 40% of the regular season. New Orleans traveling to Milwaukee 48 hours ago lost its third consecutive game with a score of 141-137.

LA Clippers
10 consecutive defeats after 60% of the regular season played for the Kings at a time when the leader of the Western conference OKC has only 12 over the entire season. A little statistic that says a lot about the difference in level between teams in the top 4, and a Sacramento 15th in the Western Conference with its rotten record of 12 wins - 40 losses. Finally, the Sacramento Kings 15th lost their last two games against teams of a more or less similar level of play, namely the Wizards 116-112 and the Grizzlies 125-129. The Los Angeles Clippers 9th in the West, 23 wins - 27 losses we will talk about it in more detail later but have changed a lot of things in the squad. Lots of changes, but very smart changes. On the NBA floors, however, things are going a little less well for the Californians, beaten in the last 2 games in front of the Philadelphia 76ers firstly 113-128, and secondly, still at home, in front of the Cleveland Cavaliers 91-124 to whom the Clippers had just surrendered Harden against Garland a few hours before for the little anecdote.

Philadelphia 76ers
The Los Angeles Lakers, 6th in the Western Conference with a record of 30 wins - 19 losses, are still in the top 6 of the Western Conference. The big problem with this team, if we look quickly, is this “misleading” 6th place. A favorable schedule for a team that is beaten very often when the level of play increases. Over the last 7 matches, it is obvious. A setback in front of the Clippers 112-104, successes in front of Dallas and Chicago, for a setback against Cleveland 129-99, success in front of Washington on January 31 111-142, setback against the Knicks in the process 112-100 and rebound in front of the Nets 109-120. The Philadelphia 76ers, 5th in the East with 29 victories - 21 defeats under the leadership of Jo Embiid who plays one match after another, arrive with a confidence gauge ready to explode. Indeed, the 76ers have won their last 5 games to climb to 5th place in the standings. A trend confirmed after an excellent start to the road trip in the Western Conference during which the 76ers beat the Clippers 113-128 first, then the Golden State Warriors secondly 94-113.

Golden State Warriors
How to stop the Phoenix Suns 7th, 31 wins - 20 losses in this Western Conference? This is without a doubt the biggest surprise of the conference this year. The Phoenix Suns were expected in the 3rd part of the table. In other words between 10-15th place. But this franchise with an unsuspected character often benefits from the impetus of a guy who does not lack it, Dillon Brooks, and shows his strengths. Victorious in 4 of its last 5 games, Phoenix beat Portland 125-130 48 hours ago. The Golden State Warriors 8th, 27 wins - 24 losses are in a delicate period, which will probably not improve with time. The loss of Jimmy Butler to injury is difficult to digest at first and since this morning it has been announced almost everywhere, the Warriors would be out of the race to recover Giannis. This 8th place hangs by a thread for the Warriors defeated 3 times in the last 4 games, precisely ahead of the Philly 76ers during the last duel fought by the Dubs 94-113.

San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio Spurs
The Dallas Mavericks 12th, 19 wins - 31 losses are the best example of a lousy trade before the deadline. Remember the transfer of the century between Doncic and Davis. In the end no one was a winner when we see that Luka crashed in the locker room during the last match against the Mavericks when he returned “home”. Davis was transferred yesterday to the Wizards for 3 times nothing. All this to say that Dallas finally made the decision to tank, like the 5 consecutive defeats collected by the franchise in the NBA against the Lakers 110-116, Wolves 105-118, Hornets 121-123, Rockets 111-107 and Celtics 100-110. The San Antonio Spurs 2nd in the West, 34-16 will play 2nd place or 1st place, in office. This is the objective of Spurs at the moment, and why not nourish title ambitions. Indeed, how many teams in the NBA will be able to boast this year of having beaten the reigning champion OKC 4 times. It was certainly a little easier last night as SGA was not playing. Neither does Holmgren, nor J. Williams. In front of a decimated Thunder and back-to-back, without forcing, San Antonio controlled to win 116-106.

Charlotte Bobcats
The Houston Rockets 4th in the West, 31 wins -17 losses are certainly still in 4th place in the Western Conference, but beware of danger. Indeed, the recipe doesn't take that much with Kevin Durant on the team. His contribution is good, that of Sengun too, but behind that is stuck. A situation that could resolve F.VanVleet, injured since the start of the year, if he returns to the group soon. In front of the Celtics last night, the Rockets fell with a score of 93-114, after 3 consecutive victories over Atlanta, Indiana and Dallas. The current trajectory that Charlotte is taking is very interesting. Long in the tough, often mocked, LaMelo Ball's partners have been untouchable for 2 weeks, 7 consecutive victories. The Hornets are unplayable, and apart from the Knicks 8 wins in a row no one is doing better currently. A passage during which the Hornets, 11th in the East, were victorious against T. Maxey's 76ers 130-93, devouring against the Orlando Magic 97-124 and victorious against Wembanyama's Spurs 102-95. On Monday, Charlotte beat NOLA 102-95.

Chicago Bulls
The pattern that we feared for the second part of the season is taking shape in Ontario. Bad news, at a time when the Raptors are maintaining a consistent pace of play but still down 5 wins - 5 losses in the last 10 games, more complete teams in the roster like the Cavaliers and the 76ers are increasing their intensity. Thus, the two named franchises moved ahead of the Raptors 6th, respectively 4th for Cleveland and 5th for Philly. Toronto 24 hours ago fell in its lair against the Timberwolves 126-128, a 3rd defeat in the last 4 games. The Chicago Bulls, 10th in the East 24 wins - 27 losses, will start again at 0 soon after the departure of Vucevic. Such a start requires asking several questions now, like this: Does Chicago really want to play for the top 10? Indeed, we have our answer to this question. The Bulls shouldn't. Charlotte behind recently won a 7th match in a row and is not looking to tank. Defeated 6 times in the last 7 games, the Bulls were beaten in the last 131-115 against the Bucks.

Utah Jazz
The Atlanta Hawks 23 wins - 25 losses, 9th in the Eastern Conference, shook up everything during the trade period. They were the first to draw with the Young-McCollum transfer. Discreet then, Atlanta recorded important arrivals last night to be discovered in the squad in order to quickly leave this 9th place 25-27 and hope to return to the top 8. The Hawks beat the Miami Heat in their last match on the road with a score of 115-127 in order to welcome the newcomers as they should. The players of the Utah Jazz, 13th in the Western Conference with a record of 16 victories - 35 defeats, prepare their future with magnificent perspectives to discover also in the squad part. But this 2026 season is not the priority of the Mormon franchise, quite the contrary. The Utah Jazz recently completely abandoned the idea of playing in the Play-ins, losing no less than 10 of their last 12 games in the NBA. The Jazz, however, took the measure of the Indiana Pacers in last place 122-131.

Brooklyn Nets
The Orlando Magic 8th in the Eastern Conference, 25 wins - 24 losses had two good matches last week in front of the Miami Heat in the derby 124-133 and the Toronto Raptors 130-120 at home, still a member of the top 4. Two great victories but unfortunately behind Orlando was moving too quickly in the Western conference to challenge the first 2, namely San Antonio and OKC. Orlando was not ready, beaten 112-103 and 128-92 respectively. For the Brooklyn Nets, 13th in the Eastern Conference, 13 wins - 36 losses, it was a total crisis. A team inevitably in doubt, beaten 9 times in the last 10 matches. But throwing stones at the Nets is useless. This team was expected at such a level of play at the start of the year, namely between 15th and 13th place. Brooklyn must rebuild and probably move things before the deadline. BK, on the NBA floors, remains on two good cases taken in front of the Pistons 130-77 and Lakers 109-125.

Refresh

So what about some immediate games and the newest NBA sports betting odds? We have you covered. This weekend is full of great games, particularly on Sunday. The Suns are playing the Kings in a great Western Conference duel. Considering their current form and how well the team is playing together, the Suns’ odds of 1.46 make sense over the Kings’ 2.80. The over/under is 227.5 and should be a great over (1.77) to play as both teams have some heavy hitters on their rosters. Among Durant, Booker, and Beal on one side and Fox, DeRozan, and Sabonis on the other, it should be an easy win.

The struggling Bucks are playing the Celtics in what was supposed to be an Eastern Conference clash of contenders. However, it is not guaranteed due to the current form of the Milwaukee team. Still, Giannis and Lillard have a lot to prove and could actually come on top. Tatum is the lone star as his team is incomplete, hence the 1.80 odds for the Celtics and the 2.06 odds for the Bucks. This may be the game that turns it around for the Wisconsin team.

Who doesn’t like when the New York Knicks are good? It is simply great for the league and the sport! They are the favorites in their upcoming clash with the Indiana Pacers as the trades proved successful. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges on one side, and Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner are more than enough to get you the 1.77 over on the 226.5 threshold. As for the winner, the Knicks should take it. The bookies predict it and give them 1.81 over the Pacers’ 2.05.
