The Top-10 goalscorers in Premier League history

The Top 5 Premier League Goal Scorers are Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, Andrew Cole and Sergio Agüero and some others.

Top goalscorers

The Premier League is one of the most followed competitions in world football and has classed itself as the ‘most competitive’ down the years, so much that many players dream of conquering the English top flight.

While the Premier League has it all in terms of drama, quality and spectacle for fans, one standout thing that has been commonplace down the years is the quality of goalscorers to have graced the league.

Bet365 is clearly the best bookie for Premier League events and in line with the popular goal market betting option, we take a quick look at ten of the most prolific goalscorers to have played in the Premier League.

Alan Shearer – 260 Goals

Top of the list and someone who needs no introduction. Alan Shearer is a retired striker and one of the greatest players to have played in the Premier League.

He holds the record for most goals scored in the league. Shearer scored over 30 goals in three seasons with Blackburn Rovers and also scored more than 20 goals while playing for Newcastle United.

Harry Kane – 213 Goals

Harry Kane, currently an active player and the captain of the England national team, is a prolific goalscorer.

He has reached double figures in goal scoring for the past seven Premier League seasons, with his highest tally being 30 goals in the 2017/18 season. He is undoubtedly a Tottenham legend and perhaps their best player ever but a stain on his legacy comes in the fact that he is the only player on this list without a major trophy to his name.

Having joined Bayern Munich in the summer window, many believe he might return to the Premier League at some point in the future to make the goalscoring record his own.

Wayne Rooney – 208 Goals

Wayne Rooney, a former player and current manager of Birmingham City FC, was known for his versatility as a forward and midfielder. He is the record goalscorer for both the England national team and Manchester United.

Rooney scored double figures in the Premier League for 11 consecutive seasons, with his best season being 2011/12 when he scored 27 goals.

Andrew Cole – 187 Goals

Andrew Cole, a former striker, is mostly remembered for his time with Manchester United. He spent six years with the club and won numerous trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League in 1999. Cole is the third highest goal scorer in Premier League history with 187 goals.

Sergio Aguero – 184 Goals

Sergio Aguero, also known as Kun Aguero, is a striker who was famous for his time at Manchester City. Aguero is considered one of the best strikers of all time. His best season was in 2014/15 when he scored 26 goals.

He is also the highest-scoring foreign striker in Premier League history and scored one of the most dramatic goals in the competition’s history in a 3-2 victory over QPR – a match that saw City win the title on the last day of the season and last minute of that game.

Frank Lampard – 177 Goals

Frank Lampard was one of the best midfielders around in his time but his prolific rate in front of goal could have easily seen him pass for a striker.

The Englishman holds the record for most goals by a midfielder in the Premier League. He also has the highest number of goals scored from outside the box (41). Lampard's remarkable season was in 2009/10 when he scored 22 goals.

Thierry Henry – 175 Goals

Thierry Henry, currently an assistant coach for Belgium, is regarded as one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history.

After scoring a remarkable 25 goals in one campaign, he followed it up with 27 goals in the next. He won four golden boots during his time in the Premier League – the only player to do so till date and is regarded as one of the best forwards to grace the competition.

Henry’s signing changed Arsenal completely and he remains a complete inspiration for French forwards till date.

Robbie Fowler – 163 Goals

Robbie Fowler, the head coach of Saudi First Division League side Al-Qadsiah, earned the nickname "God" from the Anfield crowd during his time at Liverpool. He scored 163 goals in the Premier League, with 120 of them coming in the top tier.

Jermain Defoe - 162 Goals

Jermain Defoe might not be as popular as many names on this list but his goalscoring consistency was also up there as one of the very best and he was largely underrated as well. In the 2015/16 season, he scored 15 goals in 22 games for Sunderland – one of his most prolific campaigns.

Michael Owen – 150 Goals

Michael Owen, who played for several clubs including Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, is now a racehorse breeder and owner, as well as a sports pundit and commentator. His best Premier League season was in 2001/02 when he scored 19 goals in 29 games and introduced himself to the world as a promising player to look out for.
