Beaten by the DRC during the first day 1-0, Benin has no other choice than to win today to still hope for qualification for the round of 16. We are talking about a selection which almost reached the World Cup play-offs but was beaten by Nigeria on the final day of the qualifiers 4-0. Before this failure, Benin had defeated Rwanda 0-1, Lesotho 4-0 and Zimbabwe 1-0. The Cheetahs have only passed the group stages once in their African Cup of Nations history, that was in 2019. Botswana was probably the weakest nation in this J1 in this CAN.

Beaten quite logically by Senegal 3-0, Botswana had already been beaten by Tunisia in a friendly 2-1. During the World Cup qualifiers, Botswana achieved just 10 points, finishing fifth in their group and out of reach of the qualifying seats. In all competitions, Botswana has not won in 6 matches for a record of 5 defeats.

Nigeria had a hard time defeating Tanzania when they entered the fray at the start of the week. Far from being vastly superior to its opponent, this selection still provided the essentials by winning by the smallest of margins 2-1 to settle in 2nd place in this group behind its opponent of the day. Winner of the African Cup of Nations three times in its history (1980, 1994 and 2013), the Super Eagles came very close to a new title during the last edition by falling in the final. It is therefore logical that they finished in 1st place in Group D during qualifying for this edition, ahead of Benin, Rwanda and Libya. On the other hand, Eric Chelle's men failed in the final of the qualifying play-offs for the 2026 World Cup against the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-1, elimination following penalties and they will therefore not be part of the party in America next June. Before the start of this competition, Nigeria had been defeated in a friendly match in Egypt 2-1 but with a reshuffled squad.

Tunisia, for its part, was quite serious for its debut in the tournament. Opposed to Uganda, they displayed their superiority before conceding to reduce the score at the very end of the match 3-1, which did not prevent them from taking control of the ranking of this group ahead of Nigeria. The 41st nation in the world is therefore on track to emerge from its group, unlike the last edition. Before this entry into the running, the Carthage Eagles were able to defeat Bostwana 2-1 during a friendly match. To qualify, Samil Trabelsi's players finished in 2nd place in group A, behind Comoros but in front of Gambia and they then validated their ticket for a third World Cup in a row after winning 9 and 1 draw in a group made up of Namibia, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea, Malawi and Sao Tome and Principe.

By beating Botswana on Tuesday afternoon with a stunning 3-0 score, Senegal continued its crazy series of invincibility in the African Cup of Nations, undefeated since 2019, excluding the penalty shootout. Better yet, Senegal is one of the most prolific teams in the African Cup of Nations with no less than 34 achievements in the last 4 editions. The Lions of Teranga reached the round of 16 stage during the last edition and intend to take advantage of this CAN as a springboard for the World Cup, where as a reminder, they will cross swords with the France team in the first group match. The Leopards of the DRC got off to a good start in their competition by winning, not without difficulty, against a very good opposition from Benin by the smallest of margins 1-0. We can mention that the Democratic Republic of Congo was even dominated by having only 40% possession of the ball and shooting once less than Benin.

However, the result is positive for the DRC which now aims to take revenge on Senegal who beat them during the World Cup qualifiers, thus depriving them of direct qualification for the world championship. Indeed, in November, Cédric Bakambu's teammates were forced to go through two rounds of play-offs to finally obtain their ticket for an intercontinental play-off, the last step before possible qualification for the 2026 World Cup, by claiming the scalp of Nigeria in the final victory on penalties. The Congolese reached the semi-finals of the CAN during the previous edition and seem to be constantly evolving now.

Absent from the last two editions of the CAN in 2021 and 2023 after having played in the 1/8 finals in 2019, Uganda had a difficult start in this competition, losing quite logically to Tunisia 3-1 despite the reduction in the score obtained at the very end of the match. Following this setback, Paul Put's men find themselves in last position in Group C before this 2nd day which already promises to be decisive. To qualify, this selection took 2nd place in its group during the qualifiers, just behind South Africa. South but far ahead of Congo and South Sudan. A little later, the Cranes failed to secure their ticket to the 2026 World Cup by taking 2nd place in their 6 wins and 4 losses qualifiers, behind Algeria. On the other hand, in November, Uganda had gained confidence by dismissing Chad 2-1 in the friendly match before being swept away by Morocco 4-0.

Back at an interesting level on the African scene, Tanzania had already taken part in 2 of its last 3 editions of the CAN, in 2019 and in 2023 without ever managing to pass the group stage or even to win a single match in this competition. On Tuesday, this selection ended up losing when it entered the fray against Nigeria 2-1 during a fairly open encounter during which it was able to come back before conceding the 2nd goal in the process. To qualify for this CAN, the Taifa Stars took 2nd place in their group, behind the Democratic Republic of Congo but ahead of Ethiopia and especially Guinea. Conversely, Tanzania will not be able to play in the World Cup after being beaten by Morocco and Niger in group E. Last month, Tanzania missed its last dress rehearsals before this CAN by losing against Iran 2-0 and Kuwait 4-3 during 2 friendly matches.

In search of a first English championship title since the 2003-2004 season, Arsenal are on the right track to win the holy grail but the road is still long. Because if they are still at the top of the standings, the Londoners only have a 2-point lead over a Manchester City team chasing them. Weighed down by a defeat suffered at the very end of the match against Aston Villa 2-1, the Gunners were able to resume their march forward by winning against Wolverhampton 2-1 and against Everton 0-1 last weekend. This week, Mikel Arteta's men, who are also at the top of the Champions League league stage with 6 wins in 6 matches, will try to secure their place in the last four of the League Cup against Crystal Palace. Opposite, Brighton obviously cannot aim for the top of the standings this year but this team still has some ambitions for this second part of the upcoming season.

Installed in 9th position in the ranking, Fabian Hurzeler's players are 5 points behind the European top 5. That said, the Seagulls will have to recover after having gone 4 games without the slightest victory. Dominated by Aston Villa 3-4 then held to a draw at home by West Ham 1-1, Brighton then lost to Liverpool 2-0 before settling for another draw against Sunderland 0-0 last weekend.

10th in the last financial year across the Channel, Brentford finds itself once again in the soft underbelly of the Premier League, in 12th position, already with a good lead of 10 points on the relegation zone. Consequently, the Londoners can perhaps start to look upwards since they are only 6 lengths behind the big 4 before the start of this 18th day. A little less well in recent weeks, the Bees were beaten by Arsenal 2-0 and by Tottenham 2-0 before taking a point against Leeds 1-1. Subsequently, Keith Andrews' men had to surrender against City in the quarter-finals of the League Cup but they got back on track by dominating bottom side Wolverhampton 0-2 last weekend.

For their part, Bournemouth followed in the footsteps of their opponent of the day, in 14th position, with only one small point behind their host before kick-off. Authors of a solid start to the season, the Cherries have on the other hand severely marked time for many weeks and they went on to an 8th meeting without the slightest victory last week against Burnley 1-1. This sharing of points was the 3rd in a row for Amine Adli's partners who had already been held to a draw previously by Manchester United 4-4 and by Chelsea 0-0.

Disembarked from the Championship last spring, Burnley may well have to take the elevator in the other direction next May. Not really at the level necessary to perform well at the highest level of English football, the promoted side are floundering in 19th position in the ranking, with only 11 points taken after 17 days, 7 less than the first non-relegation team. In great pain for weeks, the Clarets had gone through a terrible series of 7 consecutive losses, the last of which were against Crystal Palace 0-1, Newcastle 1-2 and finally Fulham 2-3. On the other hand, last week, Scott Parker's men finally stopped the bleeding by holding off Bournemouth 1-1. Often stuck in the 2nd part of the table in recent years or even concerned by the fight for maintenance, this Everton team offers a much better face this season.

The Liverpool-based club is actually in 10th place in the rankings and is only 5 points behind the Big 4 before this pivotal holiday period. The Toffees had also shown great promise by stringing together 4 successes in 5 days like against Bournemouth 0-1 and Nottingham Forest 3-0. Unfortunately for them, Jordan Pickford's partners had to give up in quick succession against Chelsea 2-0 and Arsenal 0-1.

Winner of the Club World Cup last July, Chelsea will undoubtedly not be able to compete for the title of champion of England this season. Because if they are not ridiculous with their 29 points on the clock, Enzo Maresca's men are still around ten points behind the head of the standings occupied by Arsenal but also 7 behind the 3rd place occupied by... Aston Villa. Hung by Bournemouth 0-0, the Blues then got the better of Everton 2-0 before sharing the points with Newcastle 2-2 last week.

In the meantime, the Londoners have validated their ticket for the last four of the League Cup after their success against Cardiff 1-3. For its part, Aston Villa is the surprise guest in the title race which we thought was summed up in a duel between Arsenal and Manchester City which are respectively 3 and a small point ahead before the start of this 18th day. Untenable for several weeks, Unaï Emery's men have won their last 10 matches in all competitions, like against FC Basel on December 11, 1-2. A success which allows them to occupy 3rd place in the C3 league phase rankings. Since this beautiful European evening, the Villans have been able to continue by dismissing West Ham 2-3 and Manchester United 2-1 during the last 2 days of the Premier League.

Is the crisis really over for Liverpool? The Mersey club, after having achieved an XXL transfer window during the summer, never really managed to convince during this first part of the season and it even went through its biggest period of turbulence in recent years with, as a highlight, the clash between Mo Salah and his leaders. Authors of a completely failed autumn, the Reds nevertheless found color by winning the Champions League against Inter 0-1 at the beginning of December. A success which allowed them to return to contact with the top 8 in the C1 ranking. Reboosted by this victory, Arne Slot's men were then able to continue by winning against Brighton 2-0 and against Tottenham 1-2 in the Premier League. Opposite, Wolverhampton is experiencing a real nightmare this season.

Completely in disarray, this team has so far only been able to pick up 2 small points during the first part of the season, which logically makes them the bottom of the Premier League, very far from the first non-relegation team who are 16 lengths ahead. Therefore, it would take a miracle to see Rob Edwards' men maintain their position. Especially since Wolves have been beaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions. Recently, it was Manchester United 1-4, Arsenal 2-1 and Brentford 0-2 who came to refuel against Wolverhampton.

Capable of securing a European place last season, Nottingham Forest had to lower their ambitions this year. Indeed, this team is struggling not to fall into the red zone and, after its short setback suffered on the field of Fulham on Monday evening 1-0, it is only in 17th position in the ranking, with 5 lengths ahead of the red zone. Winner of Wolverhampton 0-1, Forest then had to surrender against Everton 3-0 before outclassing Tottenham 3-0. At the same time, the residents of City Ground were able to defeat Utrecht in the Europa League 1-2, which allows them to calmly consider qualifying for the rest of the competition. Disappointing last season, Manchester City is back at the highest level this year.

Pep Guardiola's gang is in 2nd position in the standings with only 2 points behind the leader, Arsenal. Better yet, the Sky Blues have had a string of good performances in recent weeks and they come to the City Ground with the intention of securing a 6th success in a row in the Premier League. Recently, the Citizen left no chance to Sunderland 3-0, Crystal Palace 0-3 and West Ham 3-0 to put pressure on the Gunners. Little in sight for a few seasons now, West Ham are playing with fire this year to the point of even seeing potential relegation to the Championship getting closer. Indeed, the Londoners only occupy 18th place in the ranking and they are 5 points behind the first non-relegation team before this 18th day. Unable to win a single match since November 8, Nuno Espirito Santo's men have 6 matches without the slightest success and they have even been beaten by Aston Villa 2-3 and by Manchester City 3-0 in recent weeks. On the other side of the median, Fulham is trying as best they can to ensure their retention in the elite for a 5th consecutive season as quickly as possible.

In the last 6 performances in the elite, Lecce has won three matches, on the pitch of Hellas in person 0-1 and twice at home against Torino 2-1 and last weekend for the reception of Pisa 1-0. For its part, the team coached by Cesc Fabregas is aiming for the top of the basket, the race for Europe in a few words.

Installed at the gates of the top 6 at the start of this J17, Calcio Como has just made two missteps away on the lawns of Inter firstly 4-0 and AS Roma secondly, last weekend 1-0. The misstep at home is prohibited today especially as the local club already has two defeats in a row at home in the league against Udinese 0-2 and Lazio last weekend 0-1. To detail the last meeting, Parma finished the match at 11 against 9 and was even playing at 11 against 10 at the end of the first act. Still at home, the Parmesans are coasting, having not won any of their last six matches, 4 defeats. In the last 10 performances in Serie A, Parma has won twice, each time on the road at Hellas Verona 1-2 and Pisa 0-1. For its part, Fiorentina is at the bottom of the SA drawer being the red lantern.

We clearly didn't expect such a crazy first half of the season from the Viola players, with only 9 points to their credit. Every weekend is a final in the fight for survival for Fio who found a smile again last weekend by winning at home against Udinese 5-1. This success put an end to the 3 successive defeats in the elite against Hellas Verona 1-2, Sassuolo 3-1 and Atalanta 2-0. Winner of the 2019 edition, Algeria then never knew how to live up to its status by not even managing to pass the pools of the two following editions. That said, this selection reassured its supporters and observers at the start of the week by achieving a rather convincing success against Sudan 3-0 which allowed it to take control of the ranking and to be able to envisage rapid qualification for the 1/8th finals. The Fennecs had no trouble qualifying for this CAN by quietly beating Equatorial Guinea, Togo and Liberia. Vladimir Petkovic's men then easily beat Uganda, Mozambique, Guinea, Botswana and Somalia to validate their place for the next World Cup. Before starting this CAN, Algeria was able to defeat Uganda 2-1, Somalia 3-0, Zimbabwe 3-1 and Saudi Arabia 2-0 during preparation matches. Semi-finalist in 2021, Burkina Faso then took the door in the 1/8th final of the last edition.

Wednesday evening, Brama Traoré's men won a very important victory against Equatorial Guinea after a completely crazy end to the match 2-1. Trailing until the 95th minute of play, they were able to equalize and even take the advantage in a few seconds as they headed towards a defeat which would have largely compromised their chances of qualifying. During qualifying, the Stallions finished in 2nd place in their group behind Senegal but ahead of Burundi and Malawi. On the other hand, they were unable to secure their ticket to the World Cup. While they thought they had achieved a big blow by opening the score at the end of the match against Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea suffered a huge disappointment by conceding 2 goals in added time to finally lose by a short margin against the Stallions 2-1. Consequently, it will be difficult for this team to secure one of the first 2 places in this group and it will therefore have to try to remain among the 4 best 3rds to validate its place in the 1/8 finals as it did during the last edition. During qualifying, this selection finished in 2nd position in its qualifying group, far behind Algeria which it will meet next week, but just ahead of Togo and Liberia. On the other hand, during the qualifiers for the World Cup, Nzalang Nacional was no match, only taking 5th place in its group. In November, this team was able to win against Kenya 1-0 before losing to Madagacsar 0-2. Exited in the group stage of the last two editions of the CAN, Sudan risks experiencing the same fate in 2025.

It must be said that this team suffered greatly on Wednesday for its entry into contention against Algeria 3-0, conceding the opening score in the first seconds of play. This selection therefore finds itself with its back to the wall if she hopes to get out of this pool. To qualify, the 117th nation in the Fifa ranking finished in 2nd position in its group behind Angola but ahead of Niger and Ghana. On the other hand, the Falcons of Jediane will not participate in the 2025 World Cup after finishing in 3rd place in their group, dropped by Senegal and the DRC. Last November, Sudan failed to gain confidence by losing against the Oman A team 2-0 and being held to a draw by the Oman Espoirs 0-0.

Gabon has revenge to take in this African Cup of Nations to compensate for its disappointment of non-qualification for the World Cup, beaten in November by Nigeria in the play-off semi-final 4-1 after extra time. And yet, against Cameroon on the first day, the Gabonese did not secure the point of the draw by losing by the smallest of margins 1-0. As a reminder, in 2023, Pierre-Aymerick Aubameyang's partners had not even qualified for the CAN and they have not reached the quarter-finals since 2012. For its part, Mozambique, never out of the groups in its history at the CAN, really wants to play the role of spoilsport in a very dense group.

Like Gabon, Mozambique started with a defeat, against the defending champion, Ivory Coast, with the smallest of scores 1-0. A new defeat which comes on top of the two setbacks in friendly matches between November and December against Morocco 1-0 and Angola 4-1. During the World Cup qualifiers, the Mambas finished 3rd in their group with a total of 18 points, equal to Uganda.

Title holder, and winner on 3 occasions, Ivory Coast put its title on the line by entering the competition perfectly by beating Mozambique by a small goal 1-0. It remains to be seen how this Ivorian selection will feel, particularly following the announcement of the loss of its former coach, winner of CAN 2023 played in 2024, Jean-Louis Gasset, who unfortunately died during the week. As a reminder, the Elephants will participate in the World Cup next summer, following their very good run during the qualifiers with 25 goals scored and 0 conceded. Cameroon, in search of a coordinated and forward-looking sporting project and success, took a big blow in November with the defeat against the DRC in the semi-final of the World Cup qualifying play-off 0-1.

The Cameroonians will not go to the World Cup and have every interest in reaching the last four of this CAN or risk taking a real lead in the wing. As a start, like Ivory Coast, Cameroon achieved the bare minimum, that is to say the victory against Gabon 1-0.

We will undoubtedly have to count on Crystal Palace in the second half of the season in the fight for European accessions. Engaged this year in the Conference League where it took 10th place in the league phase after its draw against KuPS 2-2 last week, this team is in the middle of the table in the championship with only 3 points behind the big 4. However, the Eagles have been less good lately. After beating Burnley 0-1 and Fulham 1-2, Oliver Glasner's men were swept aside by Manchester City 0-3 and were then largely beaten last Saturday by Leeds 4-1. This week they will face Arsenal in the League Cup quarter-final.

Opposite, Tottenham still cannot convince this season after an already complicated last exercise, saved by the title obtained in the Europa League ahead of Manchester United. Still stuck in the 2nd part of the ranking, in 13th position, Thomas Frank's players are 4 lengths behind their opponent of the day.  Since their last victory against Brentford 2-0, Spurs were largely dominated by Nottingham Forest 3-0 and they ended up losing to Liverpool 1-2 last weekend. In the meantime, Tottenham was still able to win against Slavia Prague 3-0 in a Champions League match where this team occupies 11th place in the league phase, just a short distance from the top 8.

Returning to the Premier League this season after almost 10 years in the lower echelons of English football, Sunderland are largely living up to observers' expectations. Better yet, Régis Le Bris' players are in a very good 6th place at the start of this 18th day with only 2 points behind the 4th place occupied by Chelsea. If they had a serious setback against Manchester City 3-0 at the start of December, the Black Cats recovered well by dominating Newcastle 1-0 and they then sought a good point against Brighton 1-1 last week. Just like their opponent of the day, Leeds played in the 2nd division last year but this team does not manage to integrate the 1st part of the ranking as their opponent of the day can do.

Indeed, the promoted players are in 16th place in the ranking but they still took a nice margin of 6 points on the first relegation before the start of this 18th day. Undefeated for 4 days, the Peacocks first took the measure of Chelsea 3-1 before stringing together 2 draws against Liverpool 3-3 and Brentford 1-1. Finally, last week, the Whites knocked off Crystal Palace 4-1 to extend their lead in the red zone.

Now runner-up to its eternal rival, Inter Milan, AC Milan lost control of the championship by recording a draw at home on the last day for the arrival of Sassuolo 2-2. However, AC Milan hoped to achieve a 4th consecutive victory in Calcio after successes against Torino 2-3, Lazio 1-0 and in the Madonnina derby against Interistas 0-1. Undefeated since the very first day of Serie A, the Rossonerri have since had a string of 9 wins and 5 draws. Last week, Massimiliano Allegri's men were deprived of a final of the Italian Supercoppa after their defeat in the semi-final against Napoli 2-0, future winners of the edition. On the other side of the median, Hellas Verona finds itself stuck in the red zone 18th with a total of 12 points taken in 16 days, 2 behind the first non-relegation place, Genoa.

Hellas won their last match played on the road in the league, against an even worse ranked Fiorentin 1-2. This is the only away victory won by the Gialloblu who find themselves in a position to achieve a 3rd success in a row in the league this weekend. Indeed, before its victory in Florence, Verona was able to dismiss Atalanta Bergamo at home in a 3-1 victory. The first victories of the season in the championship for this team which had not won a single match before the 15th day.

Atalanta is on alternating current this season and its 9th place is a wonderful testament to this. Note, however, that after a defeat at the poorly ranked Hellas Verona 3-1, Dea performed against Cagliari 2-1 and Genoa 0-1. Two successes which followed the great performance offered by the Bergamasques against Chelsea in the Champions League, a 2-1 victory. In all competitions, Atalanta has won 6 of its last 7 matches. On the other side of the median, we find the Nerazzurri of Inter Milan, leaders of Serie A in the early morning but strongly threatened by AC Milan, who had the opportunity to take first place in the event of success in the afternoon.

Lautaro Martinez's partners still have their destiny in their hands, since in the event of victory, they would remain first in Calcio. Last week, as title holders, Inter lost their Supercoppa crown, losing in the semi-finals to very strong opposition from Bologna who were defeated at the TAB. In the championship, the Interists have won their last three meetings, against Pisa 0-2, Como 4-0 and against Genoa in the previous partition 1-2.

6th and virtually qualified for the play-offs of the Conference League, Bologna, participating in the league phase of the Europa League this season is obviously aiming higher in the championship, i.e. the top 5 in order to meet its objectives. Recently, the Rossoblu participated in the Italian Supercoppa, but were beaten in the final by Napoli 2-0, after taking out Inter Milan in the TAB semi-final.

In the league, Bologna has not won for 3 days, for a record of 2 defeats against Cremonese 1-3 and Juventus during the previous day 0-1 and a draw on the turf of Lazio 1-1. For its part, Sassuolo, back in the elite only one season after its relegation, intends to assert its ambitions to finish in the first half of the table and why not even, tickle the European folding seats. 10th at the start of this J17, Sassuolo is only four lengths behind its counterpart of the day, but has only won one of its last five meetings including two losses on the pitch of Como 2-0 and during the previous day for the reception of Torino 0-1.

On the previous day, Cremonese were forced to finish the match with ten men against Lazio in the capital 0-0. The local team went a second match without a victory in Calcio following their narrow defeat at Torino 1-0. Before these two poor performances, Cremo 11th had slapped Lecce with a 2-0 victory and Bologna on the road 1-3. Over the last 10 performances in the league, Cremonese have lost 4 times for 3 victories. Reigning Italian champion, Napoli has just won the Italian Supercoppa during the week, first beating AC Milan in the semi-final 2-0, then Bologna in the final with the same score 2-0.

A 2nd major trophy for the Neapolitans in 2025 after the scudetto. In the league, Conte's men occupy 3rd place in the wake of Inter and AC Milan. Napoli is right but remains well on a defeat during the previous day on the turf of Udinese 1-0.

One point in two games for Angola. After a defeat suffered against South Africa in the last minutes during J1 2-1, the Black Antelopes conceded a draw against the weakest team in the group on paper 1-1. However, the 89th nation in the Fifa ranking is the reigning quarter-finalist of this CAN and had prepared well for this tournament by winning its last two friendly matches against Zambia 3-2 and Mozambique 4-1. It should still be noted that Patrice Beaumelle's men were left with failed qualifications for the next World Cup. They had in fact finished in 4th place in their qualifying group behind Cape Verde, Cameroon and Libya and only ahead of Mauritius and Eswatini.

7 times winner of the CAN, Egypt has logical ambitions this year. Winners of their final preparation match against a Nigeria reduced 2-1 just before the start of the competition, the Pharaohs confirmed in the group stage, well started by this victory against Zimbabwe despite an opening score conceded 2-1. Only 8th finalist for CAN 2023, Egypt confirms that it has returned to the forefront. The Pharaohs will indeed see the American World Cup this summer, having finished leaders of their qualifying group ahead of Bukina Faso, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Capable of reaching the 1/8 finals of CAN 2021 for their first participation, the Comoros hope to do at least as well this season. Unfortunately for them, this team started with a logical defeat against a relentless Morocco in the opening match 2-0. Then, the Coleacantes were opposed to Zambia for a duel which promised to be decisive with a view to possible qualification. During the qualifiers, this team finished at the top of its group ahead of Tunisia, Gambia and Madagascar. Unfortunately for them, the Comoros did not experience the same success during qualifying for the World Cup, only taking 4th place in a group which included Ghana, Madagascar and Mali, ahead of the Central African Republic and Chad. For their part, Mali performed very poorly on the first day.

Although they had led the score for a long time, this team conceded the equalizer at the very end of the match even though they had not been in danger 1-1. As a result, the 53rd nation in the Fifa ranking risks finding itself in difficulty before this 3rd day since it faces a formidable team from Morocco on Friday evening while it remains in a quarter-final contested during the last edition. To qualify, the Eagles were able to top their group ahead of Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Eswatini. On the other hand, the Malians failed to validate their ticket for the next World Cup by finishing 3rd in their group behind Ghana and Madagascar but ahead of the Comoros, the Central African Republic and Chad. It should be remembered that last November, Mali was held to a draw by Jordan 1-1 during a friendly match.

In difficulty in the game when it entered the fray against Mali, Zambia nevertheless carried out a great operation by winning an almost unexpected point thanks to its equalizer at the very end of the match 1-1. On Friday, this team will have a lot to do in a very important duel for qualification against the Comoros, a seemingly affordable opponent. During qualifying, Zambia stood out by finishing as leader of its group ahead of Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Chad. On the other hand, it was more difficult for the Chipolopolo during the qualifiers for the World Cup where they only took 4th place in their group, well behind Morocco, but also Niger and Tanzania. In search of major success since its title won during the 1976 CAN, Morocco is counting on this tournament to finally expand its record again. The host country of this African Cup of Nations began its journey quite calmly with a logical victory won against the Comoros 2-0 and it will aim for a 2nd success this Friday evening against Mali to maintain 1st place in this group A.

Automatically qualified as organizers of this competition, the Atlas Lions on the other hand had no difficulty in validating their qualification for the 2026 World Cup by finishing at the top of their qualifying group with 8 victories in 8 matches played against Niger, Tanzania, the Republic of Congo and... Zambia. In November, Walid Regragui's men also gained confidence by winning against Mozambique 1-0 and Uganda 4-0.

Despite its only point taken after two days, Zimbabwe is a good surprise at the start of CAN Long ahead on the scoreboard when it entered the fray against Egypt, Zimbabwe was finally overthrown and lost with honors 2-1. Not favorites against Angola on Friday for their 2nd match, the Warriors signed a good draw after a good 1-1 performance. Never qualified for the 1/8 finals of a CAN, Zimbabwe will not see the American World Cup next summer, since it finished last in its qualifying group behind South Africa, Nigeria, Benin, Lesotho and Rwanda. In November, the small selection played 2 friendly matches, logically losing against Algeria 3-1 but winning against a good selection of Qatar 1-2. South Africa got off to a good start in its CAN by defeating Angola 2-1 with a goal scored at the end of the match.

The Bafana Bafana are regaining their splendor, they who will return to the World Cup next summer, a first since the 2010 World Cup which it organized. Hugo Broos' men actually finished 1st in their qualifying group, ahead of Nigeria, Benin, Lesotho, Rwanda and Zimbabwe. During its preparation, South Africa continued to build confidence by winning against Zambia in a friendly match 3-1 in November and then against Ghana B 1-0 a few days before the start of the tournament.

The ship is starting to rock towards AS Roma, beaten three times in the last 4 days of the championship. Against Napoli 0-1, Cagliari 1-0 and on the previous day against Juventus 2-1. In the meantime, against Como, La Louve had won again by winning by the smallest of margins 1-0. A success which followed the great demonstration in the Europa League on the pitch of Celtic 0-3. Genoa offered itself a real boost of energy by remaining undefeated for five successive days and no less than three victories against Sassuolo 1-2, Hellas Verona 2-1 and on the Udinese pitch 1-2.

However, since this last victory, Genoa has suffered two defeats in quick succession against big names at the top of the table: Inter 1-2 and last weekend against Atalanta Bergamo 0-1, not helped by the expulsion of Leali in the 3rd minute of play. In the standings, the Rossoblu are just in front of the red zone in 17th place. Let us also remember the elimination in the 1/8 final of the Italian Cup against the Bergamasques 4-0.
