Winner of the League Cup continuously from 2018 to 2021, Manchester City is logically considered one of the favorites this season. In order to reach the quarter-finals, Pep Guardiola's gang won on the lawns of Huddersfield 0-2 and Swansea 1-3. In the championship, the Skyblues are in the fight for the title. Once lagging behind Arsenal, they have recently raised the bar, which allows them to be ranked 2nd in the Premier League today, 2 points behind the Gunners. Manchester City have won their last four matches against Leeds 3-2, Fulham 4-5, Sunderland 3-0 and Crystal Palace last weekend 0-3. In the previous rounds, Brentford defeated Bournemouth 0-2, Aston Villa 1-1, qualifying on penalties and Grimsby 0-5.

But this trip to the den of Manchester City appears very difficult to negotiate. 14th in the Premier League with 6 points behind the last European seat and 7 ahead of the first relegation, the Bees are vegetating in the soft underbelly of the ranking. They are slowing down these days, as evidenced by the only success acquired over the last 5 days, for 1 draw and 3 defeats. After losing at Arsenal 2-0 and Tottenham 2-0, Brentford were held to a draw at home by Leeds last weekend 1-1.

Last year, Newcastle created a surprise by winning this League Cup. Eddie Howe's men intend to sell their skin dearly to retain the title this season. In previous rounds, they were able to count on the fervent support of Saint James Park to dismiss Bradford City 4-1 and Tottenham 2-0. The Magpies, however, are behind on their league table. They are currently 12th in the Premier League and concede 4 units of spending on the last European folding seat. After going 4 games without a setback, 3 wins and 1 draw, Newcastle suffered a setback in the derby at Sunderland last weekend 1-0.

Rather spared by the draw until now, Fulham overcame Bristol City 2-0, Cambridge United 1-0 and Wycombe 1-1, qualifying following penalties in the previous rounds of the League Cup. This trip to the title holder is a difficult meeting to negotiate. The London team now occupies 13th place in the Premier League, 6 points behind the last European side and 7 ahead of the first relegation place. More consistent in recent weeks, the Cottagers have pocketed 4 victories in the last 7 days, for 3 defeats. After losing to Manchester City 4-5 and Crystal Palace 1-2, they won at relegated Burnley last weekend 2-3.

Lucerne, 10th in the Super League, drags its doubts and remains stuck in a negative spiral, while Basel, 4th, is taking small steps but still keeps the podium in its sights. A shock scheduled for Wednesday evening, at 8:30 p.m., live from the Swissporarena!Lucerne arrives with low morale... Beaten on Sunday at Wankdorf by Young Boys 2-0, Mario Frick's men have just suffered a 4th defeat in 5 days. Zürich 3-2, Winterthur 1-3, Thun 4-1… the list is growing, and the draw against Servette 2-2 is a slight improvement. The problem is profound: 14 goals conceded in 5 matches, a defense as permeable as Swiss cheese, and an attack far too timid to compensate for 6 goals scored during the period. Lucerne is looking down and already seems condemned to navigate the second half of the table!Opposite, Basel is progressing slowly, perhaps too much even.

.. The goalless draw conceded against Lausanne 0-0 is the 3rd split in 5 days for Ludovic Magnin's men. Certainly, with only 1 defeat over the period, but an insufficient pace if they wish to keep the pace set in front. With only 6 points taken out of 15, the Basel residents are stagnating... without sinking. Traveling to a fragile opponent and normally within reach, the objective is clear for Basel: not to lose and leave with something under your arm!

Stronger than Shelbourne 2-0 and Drita 0-3 in its last outings in the Conference League, AZ Alkmaar is back in the race for the top 8 by moving up to 13th place in the league phase, a small point behind 8th. However, the Dutch team is no longer in control of its destiny since 4 direct competitors are ahead of it in the final sprint. She has not had the opportunity to return to the field since last week, her weekend Championship match having been postponed. Deprived of victory in the Eredivisie for a month and a half, AZ shows a certain poor form on the national scene. Halfway between the top 8 and 25th, Jagiellonia 18th should see the Conference League play-offs thanks to a good first part of the campaign.

The Polish club had four first matches without defeat against Hamrun 1-0, Strasbourg 1-1, Shkëndija 1-1 and KuPS 1-0 before suffering its first defeat last Thursday, against Rayo Vallecano, 1-2. However, he has lacked confidence for several weeks. Hanging on Sunday in the Championship by Motor Lublin 1-1, Jagiellonia remains in 5 matches in all competitions without a victory.

Despite 3 successes gleaned at mid-term, this team takes 12th position in the league phase, one point from the top 8 in which it will have to be at the end of the last day to reach the round of 16. With the truce imposed in the Championship until February, Celje has not played since his trip to Rijeka and remains in control of the national exercise with a significant lead over his runner-up. Shelbourne will go no further in the Conference League than the league stage. Devoid of victory after the first 5 days and unable to score a single goal, the Irish were content with an opening draw against Häcken 0-0 to take their one and only point.

They then suffered the law of Shkëndija 1-0, Drita 0-1, AZ Alkmaar 2-0 and Crystal Palace 0-3. The Shels now only play on the European scene. They took 3rd place in the Championship, which ended at the beginning of November, and are therefore playing their last match of the season this Thursday.

Legia Warsaw is one of the pretty big disappointments of this phase of the league. Expected to at least appear among the first 24, the Polish club was only able to take 3 points during the first 5 days and it has therefore given up on its hopes of being able to go to the play-offs since it is 4 points behind the 24th and last virtually qualified which is none other than its opponent of the day. Beaten from the start by Samsunspor 0-1, the Warsaw players were able to recover by beating Shakhtar 1-2 but they then suffered 3 defeats in a row against Celje 2-1, Sparta Prague 0-1 and against FC Noah 2-1 last Thursday. In the league, Legia is in 16th position in the standings and is therefore the first to be relegated after its defeat against Piast Gliwice 2-0. He will try to bounce back, again against Piast Gliwice, on Sunday. Lincoln, for its part, is hanging on as best it can to its 24th place, the last qualifier for the play-offs.

Retaining it would be a major achievement for this Gibraltar team which is nevertheless considered one of the Little Thumbs of the competition. After sinking from the start against Zrinjski Mostar 5-0, the Red Imps raised their heads by winning against Lech Poznan 2-1 then holding off Rijeka 1-1. Subsequently, they were beaten by Hamrun Spartans 3-1 before putting in an excellent performance by beating Sigma Olomouc 2-1 last Thursday to stay a point ahead of their first pursuer. In the championship, Lincoln is in the running to try to retain its title. He faces Lions next weekend to achieve a 4th success in a row.

Announced among the teams to follow in this Conference League, Mainz has for the moment assumed this outsider status since it is in 8th place in the ranking with 10 points taken in 5 days. The Germans had an impeccable first phase with 3 victories against Omonia Nicosia 0-1, Zrinjski Mostar 1-0 and Fiorentina 2-1 before losing against Universitatea Craiova 1-0. Finally, last week, FSV had to share the points with Lech Poznan 1-1. On the other hand, it is very complicated in the Bundesliga for Mainz which brings up the rear in the standings. Defeated 3 times in 4 days, this team will have a lot to do to revive against Bayern on Sunday.

For their part, Samsunspor are 3 places ahead of their opponent of the day but they have the same number of points thanks to their record of 3 victories, a draw and a defeat after 5 days. Beaten by AEK Athens 1-2 last week, the Turks were otherwise able to win against Legia Warsaw 0-1, Dynamo kyiv 3-0 and Hamrun Spartans 3-0 before being held to a draw by Breidablik. In their championship, Thomas Reis' players are in 6th place in the ranking before hosting Istanbul Basaksehir next weekend.

Barring disaster, Omonia Nicosia should be able to get through this league phase and compete in the play-offs. This team in fact occupies 15th place in the ranking with 2 lengths ahead of the first non-qualified team and it would therefore take a huge combination of circumstances for it not to pass. The Cypriots, however, got off to a very bad start with only 2 points taken during the first 3 days against Mainz defeated 0-1, Drita 1-1 and Lausanne 1-1 but they then accelerated against Dynamo kyiv 2-0 and Rapid 0-1. At the same time, on the national scene, the Clubs are fighting for 1st place in their championship. On Monday, an important duel awaits them against AEK Larnaca to aim for a 5th victory in a row in all competitions.

Opposite, Rakow is an opponent far from easy to negotiate since it is still undefeated in this competition with 3 successes obtained against Universitatea Craiova 2-0, Rapid Vienne 4-1 and Zrinsjki Mostar 1-0 last week and 2 draws against Sigma Olomouc 1-1 and Sparta Prague 0-0. With such a record, the Poles are in 3rd position in this league phase, 2 lengths behind the Strasbourg leader. At the same time, the Czestochowa-based club is in 3rd position in the rankings in Poland before hosting Zaglebie on Sunday.

Rayo Vallecano, in the second part of the table in Spain, is among the big favorites for the title in a Europa Conference League in which there are quite a few modest European teams. After 5 days, the Iñigo Pérez men, ex-Osasuna player, are in an interesting position, in 7th place, with 10 points on the clock even if mathematically nothing is decided as the 24th is 7 points away. Rayo beat Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland 2 goals to 1 in their last match. Opposite, FK Drita Kosovo is the kind of team that is showing up at the beginning of July to try to qualify for the unlikely Champions League and firmly hopes to nab a ticket for the C3 and C4.

Moreover, the Kosovo champion, 5th two-thirds of the way through the season this year, is doing not so badly in this C4 by being in the top 20 with the firm hope of staying warm to compete in the 1/16 finals play-offs. FK Drita defeated AZ Alkmaar 0-3 on the last day.

Shakhtar Donetsk at the start of the Ukraine-Russia war had lost almost all of its foreigners, more precisely all of its Brazilians. After a few difficult years to negotiate, the Ukrainian club returns, with a group designed to play the last four of the competition like this 2nd place, temporarily acquired thanks to 4 successes and 1 defeat. Second in the local championship before Sunday's reception of Epitsentr to come, Donetsk beat Hamrun Spartans 0-2 last Thursday in C4. Rijeka occupies 14th place in the Europa Conference League standings, close to qualification, with the firm intention of making a move in Ukraine in order to think of the top 8 directly qualifying for the 1/8 finals.

There was still hope for Shamrock Rovers on the final day provided they achieved the feat away to Breidablik. Indeed, with only 1 small point collected after 5 days, Shamrock drew against AEK during J4 and had to win against the Icelanders of Breidablik last Thursday. Overall dominated, Shamrock surrendered with a score of 1-0. A defeat which mathematically condemns the locals 35th/36. Recently winner of the Irish Cup, winner of the championship, Shamrock has asserted its supremacy on the local scene.

The Hamrun Spartans 32nd, 3 points yet better positioned, no longer have any chance of playing in the play-offs, now 4 points behind the first play-off Lincoln, 7 points. The Maltese team had the merit of beating Lincoln FC 3-1 in this campaign, but faced with a schedule that was too busy like this missed reception against S.Donetsk 0-2, it was almost impossible to dream of qualifying. Beaten 3-1 in the league last weekend, the Spartans will have to react next weekend.

For this match, we will quickly take the angle of the prediction and thus explain it in detail. Both teams are currently in the top 24, respectively 22nd Sigma and 20th Lech Poznan. Only 3 teams can still qualify for the play-offs, namely KuPS 25th, 6 points, Mostar 26th, 6 points and Breidablik 27th, 5 points. Knowing that the 1st moves to Crystal and the third to Strasbourg, hypothetically the draw would be a magnificent option for both teams. But a little less for the 22nd locals, who will not be safe from an exploit by KuPS in England or Breidablik in Alsace. Surprisingly dominated by Lincoln 2-1 last week, the Czechs were then swept aside by FC Zlin 5-0 last weekend in the league.

Place Lech Poznan 20th, 7 points whose situation in the event of a draw would be much more comfortable. Simply know that the qualification would be practically in the pocket. Overall, we expected much better from this Polish team. That said, the draw against Mainz 1-1 last week was an excellent operation. In the championship, Lech Poznan is in 8th place in the standings but is only 3 points behind the podium with a match in hand.

And yet, by beating Rayo Vallecano on the 4th day 2-1, hopes were high among the locals who ultimately failed to confirm their renewed energy by losing at Shkendija last week 2-0. Note all the same, that in the championship, Slovan Bratislava is in pole position in the fight for the title and played an important match last weekend against Zilina, result to follow. Opposite, the Swedish club Hacken is languishing in soporific results.

Not the slightest victory in an official match since October 5, it was in the championship on the Brommapojkarna pitch 1-3. Sparta Prague are in sixth place and only need a small point to qualify for the knockout stages of the Conference League. The adventure started perfectly with a very large victory against Shamrock Rovers 4-1 but the road subsequently became cloudy with a defeat on the lawn of Rijeka 1-0 and a sharing of points with Rakow 0-0. Back in business, the Czech club got the better of Legia Warsaw 1-2 and Universitatea Craiova last week 1-2. In the championship, as often, Sparta finds itself in the title fight with the rival, Slavia Prague, and received Liberec the last weekend, result to follow. For its part, we find Aberdeen, a Scottish club, far from the title race in the country only 6th.

It was quite predictable, but under European skies, the task promised to be delicate and at the dawn of this last performance of the league phase, Aberdeen are still chasing their first victory 2 small points collected and will be eliminated whatever happens at the end of regulation time. In 5 matches, the visiting team scored only 3 small goals for a total of 11 goals conceded. Last week, Aberdeen failed to prevent Strasbourg from taking the lead in the league in a 0-1 defeat. A fourth victory in 5 European outings and above all a first clean sheet in C4 for a Racing team still undefeated in the event 4 wins, 1 draw in which it dominates the league phase. However, it is more difficult for him to make a good impression in Ligue 1. Hanging last weekend by Lorient 0-0, Liam Rosenior's team stopped a series of 3 defeats in the Championship and is out of the places for Europe, in 7th place. Breidablik is having a harder time doing well in the Conference League. After 2 draws and 2 defeats, the Icelandic club waited until the previous day, last week against Shramrock Rovers 3-1, to sign their first victory of the league phase.

He nevertheless remains poorly off to a good start, 27th in the ranking, 2 lengths behind 24th, last qualified for the play-offs. His fate is therefore no longer in his hands. The team from the suburbs of Reykjavik having finished its Championship at the end of October, and moreover outside the qualifying places for a European Cup, it now only competes in the Conference League. This last day of the league phase could be his last match of the year.

Almost halfway through the season, we can practically already say that Borussia Dortmund will not be able to win the title of German champion. Although it is on the Bundesliga podium, BVB is already 9 points behind the leader, Bayern Munich, who seems to be heading alone at the top of the standings. After having carried out 2 good operations in the league against Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 and Hoffenheim 2-0, Niko Kovac's men had to share the points last week against Freiburg 1-1, thus missing the opportunity to make up part of their gap on the Bavarians. At the same time, Borussen are in 10th place in the Champions League league stage after being held to a 2-2 draw by Bodo/Glimt last week. On the other side of the median, Borussia Mönchengladbach are no doubt happy to be in 11th position in the standings heading into the winter break.

It must be said that this team had completely missed its debut in this championship by suffering a series of defeats during the first weeks of competition. But the Foals then took the bull by the horns by raising their level to achieve several successes and thus climb out of the red zone. That said, after having lined up 4 victories in 5 days including one against Mainz 0-1, Gladbach was dominated at home last week by Wolfsburg 1-3.

As too often since its return to the elite in the mid-2010s, FC Augsburg will not be able to aim for anything other than remaining in the Bundesliga this season. Moreover, with 13 points collected during the first 14 matches of this 2025-2026 financial year, this team cannot claim better than 15th place in the ranking, with a short margin of only 2 lengths in the red zone. Rather serious at home in recent weeks with successes against Hamburg 1-0 and Bayer Leverkusen 2-0, the Bavarians are encountering more difficulties away from their bases as against Hoffenheim 3-0 and Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 last weekend. For its part, Werder Bremen has put its European ambitions on the shelf for the moment.

Having come within a whisker of winning a ticket for an international competition during the last two years, this team is now in 12th place in the ranking, almost ten points from the top 6 from now on. Even more problematic, the Werderaner have just lost 3 times in the last 4 days. Winner of the German Cup last season, Stuttgart have negotiated their European adventure rather well so far. This team is in 9th place in the Europa League rankings with a small point behind the top 8 before the last 2 days which will be played next month. In the Bundesliga, the VfB also performed rather well during this first part of the season and is in 6th place in the ranking with only a small margin on the 4th qualifying place for the Champions League. After being beaten by Hamburg 2-1 and more severely by Bayern Munich 0-5, the Swabians bounced back perfectly by crushing Maccabi Tel Aviv in C3 1-4 then Werder Bremen 0-4 in the championship. Opposite, Hoffenheim only has the championship to contest this season, especially after having taken the door in the 2nd round of the German Cup at the end of October.

4th in the last World Cup and qualified for the next edition in the United States next summer, this CAN, which Morocco of course wants to win, will serve somewhere to prepare the troops for Group C, made up of Brazil, Scotland and Haiti. The Moroccans have only won the CAN once in their history, in 1976. Finalist in 2004, since then, nothing more for Walid Regragui's gang. Playing at home in the competition, Morocco will have to do better than the round of 16 in the previous edition. Remember that the Moroccans won their 8 qualifying matches for the World Cup by scoring 22 goals and only 2 conceded. This is only the 2nd edition of the African Cup of Nations in which the Comoros are taking part.

Before that, they were either ineligible or simply not qualified. The second part of the season promises to be testing for this Heidenheim team which, after having already had to compete in the play-offs to maintain its place in the elite, will have to redouble its efforts to try to renew its lease in the Bundesliga over the coming months. 17th in the ranking before this 15th day, Franck Schmidt's men have only gleaned 11 points during their first 14 matches and they are 2 points behind the first non-relegation team, Augsburg. A little better recently, the FCH was able to win against Union Berlin 1-2 and Friborg 2-1 before falling on the field of Sankt Pauli 2-1 last weekend. Bayern Munich, for its part, obviously does not have a competitor of its size this year beyond the Rhine.

Large leader of the ranking, the FCB already has a very comfortable lead of 9 points over its first pursuer, Leipzig, despite its small hitch experienced last week against Mainz 2-2 during a meeting which it nevertheless dominated from start to finish, falling on a heroic opposing goalkeeper. Before that, the Bavarians had crushed 3 nice victories in a row in the league against Freiburg 6-2, Sankt Pauli 3-1 and Stuttgart 0-5. They have also won 5 of their first 6 Champions League matches including the last one against Sporting 3-1 last week and are already practically assured of participating in the 1/8th finals of the competition.

Cagliari is currently 15th in Serie A and is 2 points ahead of the first relegation place. The Sardinians recently ended a bad series of 9 games without a win, 4 draws and 5 defeats by winning, to everyone's surprise, against Roma at home 1-0. However, they relapsed last weekend. Cagliari was not unworthy but logically lost on the field of Atalanta because of a goal conceded at the end of the game 2-1. Expected in the fight at the bottom of the ranking for its return to the elite, Pisa does not defy the predictions.

Indeed, the promoted team now occupies 19th place in Serie A with 4 units of expenditure on the first non-relegation place. Alberto Gilardino's men pocketed their only success against Cremonese at the beginning of November 1-0. Subsequently, they started a negative dynamic again. Pisa took a point at Sassuolo 2-2 before losing to Inter 0-2, Parma 0-1 and Lecce last weekend 1-0.

In a difficult situation this season, Fiorentina is the only team which has still not pocketed a single victory in the league, 6 draws and 9 defeats. La Viola occupies the last place in Serie A with 8 points behind the first non-relegation place. Despite a quality squad, the Tuscans are unable to find the right formula. They remain on setbacks suffered against Atalanta 2-0, Sassuolo 3-1 and Hellas Verona last weekend 1-2. Udinese is currently 10th in Serie A and concedes 4 spending units on the last European folding seat.

The Friulians do not seem sufficiently armed to play for the top of the table but can, however, be satisfied with having distanced themselves from the red zone, 9 points ahead. During the last 8 days, they have gleaned 4 victories, for 4 defeats. Beaten at home by Genoa 1-2, Udinese then created a surprise by beating Napoli last weekend 1-0.

Sassuolo exceeds expectations for its return to the elite by keeping a safe distance from the fight so as not to go down. The promoted team now occupies 9th place in Serie A with 9 points ahead of the first relegated team and 4 behind the last European jump seat. To their advantage, Fabio Grosso's men have only lost one of their last 5 league matches, for 2 wins and 2 draws. After winning against Fiorentina at home 3-1, they brought back a good point from AC Milan last weekend 2-2. Torino is currently 13th in Serie A and is 5 points ahead of the red zone.

The Piedmontese have not yet found the right fuel this season. They still took a breath of fresh air last weekend by defeating Cremonese 1-0. This result does a lot of good for Torino who had lost their three previous matches against Como 1-5, Lecce 2-1 and AC Milan losing a 2-goal advantage 2-3.
