Almost halfway through the season, we can practically already say that Borussia Dortmund will not be able to win the title of German champion. Although it is on the Bundesliga podium, BVB is already 9 points behind the leader, Bayern Munich, who seems to be heading alone at the top of the standings. After having carried out 2 good operations in the league against Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 and Hoffenheim 2-0, Niko Kovac's men had to share the points last week against Freiburg 1-1, thus missing the opportunity to make up part of their gap on the Bavarians. At the same time, Borussen are in 10th place in the Champions League league stage after being held to a 2-2 draw by Bodo/Glimt last week. On the other side of the median, Borussia Mönchengladbach are no doubt happy to be in 11th position in the standings heading into the winter break.

It must be said that this team had completely missed its debut in this championship by suffering a series of defeats during the first weeks of competition. But the Foals then took the bull by the horns by raising their level to achieve several successes and thus climb out of the red zone. That said, after having lined up 4 victories in 5 days including one against Mainz 0-1, Gladbach was dominated at home last week by Wolfsburg 1-3.

Only 17th in La Liga, Valencia is in serious danger which it begins to assimilate over the seasons. We are of course talking about a risk of relegation. 6 times Spanish champion, the Ché club has the same number of points as the first relegation zone, Girona, and remains in a defeat on the lawn of Atlético Madrid 2-1. Before that, the Blanquinegros had lost points against Sevilla FC at home 1-1 and at Rayo Vallecano 1-1. At home, Valencia have won only one of their last 5 matches, including 2 defeats against Villarreal in the derby 0-2 and against Oviedo 1-2. This week, to ease internal tensions, the local club caused Sporting Gijon to falter in the 1/16th final of the Copa del Rey victory 0-2, and they will play the 1/8th round.

Author of a more than honorable season last season, this Mallorcan team cannot do it and is only a shadow of itself. The RCD even lost this week in the 1/16 final of the Copa del Rey on the lawn of the solid team of Deportivo La Corogne 1-0. Last weekend, the Mallorcans were smiling again after winning their match against Elche at home 3-1, thus putting an end to 3 days of La Liga without success, including 2 draws on the pitch in Oviedo where they finished 9-0-0 and at home for the reception of Osasuna 2-2. A match that they had in hand with 2 goals in the 2nd period, squandered in no time.

Indeed, they have not pocketed any victory in the last 7 days, 3 draws and 4 defeats. Beaten by Sunderland 3-2 and Everton 0-1, Bournemouth then shared the points with Chelsea 0-0 and Manchester United last Monday 4-4. Struggling for its return to the elite, Burnley is currently 19th in the Premier League and deplores 6 points behind the first non-relegation place.

The Clarets have had a string of bad results these days. Indeed, they have lost their last seven league matches. Burnley lost to Arsenal 0-2, West Ham 3-2, Chelsea 0-2, Brentford 3-1, Crystal Palace 0-1, Newcastle 2-1 and Fulham last weekend 2-3. A reaction is eagerly awaited from the promoted team, otherwise they risk getting stuck irremediably in the red zone.

Held in check at home by West Ham 1-1, Brighton otherwise suffered the law of Aston Villa 3-4 and Liverpool last weekend 2-0. Sunderland defies all predictions for its return to the elite by keeping a good distance from the fight at the bottom of the table.

Eager to maintain a quiet performance this season, Everton is doing very well so far. Indeed, the Liverpool club is currently 9th in the Premier League and is 2 points behind the last European seat. Confidently, the Toffees have only lost 2 of their last 7 league matches, for 4 wins and 1 draw. After winning at Bournemouth 0-1 and against Nottingham Forest 3-0, they suffered a setback last weekend. Everton lost to Chelsea 2-0. Arsenal maintains the hope of being crowned champion of England for the first time since 2004.

The London team is now at the top of the Premier League but its lead has faded in recent weeks. Indeed, Mikel Arteta's gang is only 2 steps ahead of Manchester City and 3 ahead of Aston Villa. Over the last six days, the Gunners have dropped points three times: 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat. As expected, Leeds are fighting not to go down this season. The promoted team now occupies 17th place in the Premier League, 3 points ahead of the relegation zone. Daniel Farke's men worried all their fans by stringing together four defeats in a row in November against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Manchester City. On the other hand, they showed a surge during the last three days. Leeds got the better of Chelsea 3-1 before holding off Liverpool 3-3 and Brentford last weekend 1-1.

Author of a good first part of the season, Crystal Palace is currently 5th in the Premier League and is 2 points behind 4th place, qualifying for the next Champions League. Sure of their strength, the Eagles have only conceded 2 losses in the last 7 days, for 4 victories and 1 draw. This good result dating back to last month, against Golbey 2-3, was followed by a setback in his last match, at Koetzingue 2-1. Raon l'Etape cannot therefore do better than 8th place out of the 14 teams entered in its Regional 1 group. This team repelled an opponent of the same level for its debut in the Coupe de France, Still Mutzig 0-3, and caused a sensation in the next round against Mulhouse, a higher division N3 team; 2-2, 4-1 tab.

As too often since its return to the elite in the mid-2010s, FC Augsburg will not be able to aim for anything other than remaining in the Bundesliga this season. Moreover, with 13 points collected during the first 14 matches of this 2025-2026 financial year, this team cannot claim better than 15th place in the ranking, with a short margin of only 2 lengths in the red zone. Rather serious at home in recent weeks with successes against Hamburg 1-0 and Bayer Leverkusen 2-0, the Bavarians are encountering more difficulties away from their bases as against Hoffenheim 3-0 and Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 last weekend. For its part, Werder Bremen has put its European ambitions on the shelf for the moment.

Having come within a whisker of winning a ticket for an international competition during the last two years, this team is now in 12th place in the ranking, almost ten points from the top 6 from now on. Even more problematic, the Werderaner have just lost 3 times in the last 4 days. Dominated by Leipzig 2-0, they were then able to share the points with Cologne 1-1 before losing against Hamburg 3-2 and especially against Stuttgart 0-4 last weekend.

Able to ride on its good momentum from last year at the start of the season, FC Cologne has fallen off its board and now finds itself in much less buoyant waters. Dominated by Gladbach 3-1 and Frankfurt 3-4, the Boucs were then able to hold off against Werder Bremen 1-1 and Sankt Pauli 1-1. But last weekend, they fell back into their mistakes by losing to Bayer Leverkusen 2-0. Consequently, Cologne falls further in the ranking and finds itself in 10th position, 5 lengths ahead of the red zone.

On the other side of the median, Union Berlin is located in the soft underbelly of the ranking, in 8th position, after a lackluster first part of the exercise. Nevertheless, the players from the capital have given themselves quite a bit of margin in the relegation zone since they are now 7 lengths ahead of the play-off before the start of this 15th day. Surprised at home by Heidenheim 1-2, the Iron Men then had to lose at Wolfsburg 3-1 before relaunching at home last weekend at the expense of a solid Leipzig team 3-1.

For the moment, this team is on time in terms of its passage times since it is in 14th place in the ranking, with a short lead of 4 points over the red zone. HSV had indeed carried out excellent operations in recent weeks by winning against Stuttgart 2-1 and Werder Bremen 3-2 at home but they were unable to hold off against a formidable Hoffenheim team 4-1 last weekend. For their part, Eintracht Frankfurt is undoubtedly not at the level of their pretensions at the start of the season.

Manhandled by competition in the Champions League, the Capricious Diva is only in 31st position in the league phase with only 4 points taken in 6 days and she had to surrender against FC Barcelona 2-1 last week. Winner of the German Cup last season, Stuttgart have negotiated their European adventure rather well so far. This team is in 9th place in the Europa League rankings with a small point behind the top 8 before the last 2 days which will be played next month. In the Bundesliga, the VfB also performed rather well during this first part of the season and is in 6th place in the ranking with only a small margin on the 4th qualifying place for the Champions League. After being beaten by Hamburg 2-1 and more severely by Bayern Munich 0-5, the Swabians bounced back perfectly by crushing Maccabi Tel Aviv in C3 1-4 then Werder Bremen 0-4 in the championship. Opposite, Hoffenheim only has the championship to contest this season, especially after having taken the door in the 2nd round of the German Cup at the end of October.

And this is working quite well for TSG, which is establishing itself as a very credible contender for European places and even, why not, for qualification in the Champions League. The visitors occupy 5th place in the ranking with the same number of points as Bayer Leverkusen who are 4th. Easy to defeat Augsburg 3-0, Hoffe's players then had to lose to Dortmund 2-0 before resuming their march forward against Hamburg 4-1 last weekend.

The Moroccans have only won the CAN once in their history, in 1976. Finalist in 2004, since then, nothing more for Walid Regragui's gang. Playing at home in the competition, Morocco will have to do better than the round of 16 in the previous edition. Before that, they were either ineligible or simply not qualified. In 2023, this selection did not obtain its ticket to participate in the competition. Also, defensive executives Emiliano Martinez (goalkeeper) and Pau Torres (central defender) are uncertain. Against Arsenal, winger Buendia (4 goals and 2 assists in PL) was the hero of the match by scoring after added time. He is applying to start in the offensive sector where Rogers (3 goals and 3 assists in PL), Watkins (3 goals in PL) and Malen (4 goals in PL) can appear. Former Marseillais Kamara continues his good performances in midfield while Belgian international Tielemans also plays a leading role. For Manchester United, senior defenders Maguire and De Ligt remain out this Monday evening.

In addition, striker Sesko (2 goals in PL) is announced as uncertain (resumption), like the 3 Mancunians called to the CAN: Mbeumo (6 goals in PL), the starting right piston Amad Diallo and the executive defender Mazraoui. A priori, Man U managed to negotiate a later start than December 15 (deadline for making players available for selection) and the three men should start. Strong man of the Red Devils, captain Bruno Fernandes (4 goals and 6 assists in PL) highlighted himself with a double on the last day. Attackers Mbeumo (6 goals in PL) and Mount (3 goals in PL) also found the net. The attacking trio was completed by Brazilian international Matheus Cunha (1 goal and 1 assist in PL).

It will not be easy to validate his stay with Auxerre this season. Despite a rather interesting quality of play, Christophe Pélissier's men find themselves in difficulty in the Ligue 1 standings and they will spend the holidays as play-offs, 3 lengths behind the first non-relegation team, Le Havre. After holding off Lyon 0-0 and Paris FC 1-1, the Burgundians carried out an excellent operation by winning against FC Metz 3-1, thus ending a series of 9 unsuccessful matches. But last Sunday, AJA was very poorly paid by losing at the end of a crazy match against Lille 3-4 during a game where it did not concede many situations to its disadvantage. For its part, AS Monaco cannot be satisfied with its performance at mid-season.

If they ensured the minimum in the Champions League by winning a very valuable victory this week against Galatasaray which allows them to appear among the first 24 in the ranking and to glimpse qualification for the play-offs, the players of the Principality disappoint in Ligue 1. As proof, they are only in 9th place in the ranking after their new defeat suffered at the Vélodrome last Sunday 1-0, a week after the one already conceded to the side of Brest 1-0. Consequently, the Rocher club is already 9 points behind the top 4 in Ligue 1.

The second part of the season promises to be testing for this Heidenheim team which, after having already had to compete in the play-offs to maintain its place in the elite, will have to redouble its efforts to try to renew its lease in the Bundesliga over the coming months. 17th in the ranking before this 15th day, Franck Schmidt's men have only gleaned 11 points during their first 14 matches and they are 2 points behind the first non-relegation team, Augsburg. A little better recently, the FCH was able to win against Union Berlin 1-2 and Friborg 2-1 before falling on the field of Sankt Pauli 2-1 last weekend. Bayern Munich, for its part, obviously does not have a competitor of its size this year beyond the Rhine.

Large leader of the ranking, the FCB already has a very comfortable lead of 9 points over its first pursuer, Leipzig, despite its small hitch experienced last week against Mainz 2-2 during a meeting which it nevertheless dominated from start to finish, falling on a heroic opposing goalkeeper. Before that, the Bavarians had crushed 3 nice victories in a row in the league against Freiburg 6-2, Sankt Pauli 3-1 and Stuttgart 0-5. They have also won 5 of their first 6 Champions League matches including the last one against Sporting 3-1 last week and are already practically assured of participating in the 1/8th finals of the competition.

Present on 2 tables this season, Mainz is honoring its colors for the moment in the Conference League. 8th in the ranking before challenging Samsunspor next Thursday, this team will want to keep its place in the top 8 to validate its place in the 1/8 finals of this competition. On the other hand, it is not the same song in the Bundesliga where FSV is struggling at the bottom of the ranking, already far from the first non-relegation place. The men of Urs Fischer, who recently arrived to take over from Bo Henricksen who was dismissed from his position at the start of the month, are in fact 6 points behind Augsburg, 15th. Beaten by Friborg 4-0 and by Gladbach 0-1, the Nullfünfer on the other hand went for an unexpected point against Bayern Munich 2-2 last week.

For their part, Sankt Pauli will also have to get down to business in the second part of the season to hope to quickly validate their stay in the elite. The Hamburg-based club is in 16th place in this Bundesliga, 4 points ahead of its opponent of the day and 2 behind the first non-relegation team. In great difficulty for many weeks, the Pirates of the League had a terrible series of 9 defeats in a row in the league before finally raising their heads against Cologne 1-1. But last weekend, Alexander Blessin's players finally found their smiles again by winning in a clash to maintain against Heidenheim 2-1.

Cagliari is currently 15th in Serie A and is 2 points ahead of the first relegation place. The Sardinians recently ended a bad series of 9 games without a win, 4 draws and 5 defeats by winning, to everyone's surprise, against Roma at home 1-0. However, they relapsed last weekend. Cagliari was not unworthy but logically lost on the field of Atalanta because of a goal conceded at the end of the game 2-1. Expected in the fight at the bottom of the ranking for its return to the elite, Pisa does not defy the predictions.

Indeed, the promoted team now occupies 19th place in Serie A with 4 units of expenditure on the first non-relegation place. Alberto Gilardino's men pocketed their only success against Cremonese at the beginning of November 1-0. Subsequently, they started a negative dynamic again. Pisa took a point at Sassuolo 2-2 before losing to Inter 0-2, Parma 0-1 and Lecce last weekend 1-0.

In a difficult situation this season, Fiorentina is the only team which has still not pocketed a single victory in the league, 6 draws and 9 defeats. La Viola occupies the last place in Serie A with 8 points behind the first non-relegation place. Despite a quality squad, the Tuscans are unable to find the right formula. They remain on setbacks suffered against Atalanta 2-0, Sassuolo 3-1 and Hellas Verona last weekend 1-2. Udinese is currently 10th in Serie A and concedes 4 spending units on the last European folding seat.

The Friulians do not seem sufficiently armed to play for the top of the table but can, however, be satisfied with having distanced themselves from the red zone, 9 points ahead. During the last 8 days, they have gleaned 4 victories, for 4 defeats. Beaten at home by Genoa 1-2, Udinese then created a surprise by beating Napoli last weekend 1-0.

Genoa currently occupies 16th place in Serie A, 2 points ahead of the first relegated team. After a sluggish start to the championship, the leaders ousted French coach Patrick Vieira at the end of October. This change allowed Vitinha's teammates to raise their heads. In fact, they went 5 games without defeat in the league, 3 wins and 2 draws, and thus left the red zone. Last weekend, Genoa suffered a setback by losing at home against Inter 1-2. Considered a serious contender for the European folding seats, Atalanta is behind on its progress.

La Dea is currently 12th in Serie A and is 6 points behind 6th place. Since the arrival on the bench of Raffaele Palladino, the Bergamasques have won 2 championship matches, losing 2. Beaten by Napoli 3-1 and Hellas Verona 3-1, they also won at home against Fiorentina 2-0 and Cagliari last weekend 2-1. Sassuolo exceeds expectations for its return to the elite by keeping a safe distance from the fight so as not to go down. The promoted team now occupies 9th place in Serie A with 9 points ahead of the first relegated team and 4 behind the last European jump seat. To their advantage, Fabio Grosso's men have only lost one of their last 5 league matches, for 2 wins and 2 draws. After winning against Fiorentina at home 3-1, they brought back a good point from AC Milan last weekend 2-2. Torino is currently 13th in Serie A and is 5 points ahead of the red zone.

The Piedmontese have not yet found the right fuel this season. They still took a breath of fresh air last weekend by defeating Cremonese 1-0. This result does a lot of good for Torino who had lost their three previous matches against Como 1-5, Lecce 2-1 and AC Milan losing a 2-goal advantage 2-3.

Betis Sevilla are 6th in La Liga at the start of this 17th day and are clearly doing the job against a good part of the championship. On the other hand, against the "big names", the Verdiblancos are a little less sharp, as evidenced by their three defeats against Barcelona 3-5, Atlético Madrid 0-2 and Athletic Bilbao 1-2. Casually, since the start of the season, these are the only three defeats suffered by the Sevillians. Recently, they even ended an 8-year drought by beating Sevilla FC at Pizjuan 1-2. Last weekend, on the lawn of Rayo Vallecano, Manuel Pellegrini's men failed to find the breakthrough 0-0.

During the week, Bétis tried to qualify for the 1/8 finals of the Copa del Rey on the Murcia pitch, results to come. Getafe, five points behind Bétis, last qualified for Europe, must take a positive result today on the road. Times are tough for the Azulones, defeated four times in the last five days of La Liga, against Mallorca 1-0, Atlético Madrid 0-1, Villarreal 2-0 and still without scoring for the arrival of the Pericos of Espanyol last weekend 0-1. Like the Verdiblancos, during the week, El Geta was on deck in the Copa del Rey, on the Burgos pitch for a qualification in the 1/8th final, result to come.

Elche is showing the way to the promoted teams in this first half of the season. We are talking about a team still undefeated at home in the league, despite receiving Real Madrid 2-2 or even Bétis at the start of the season 1-1. Rigorous, playful and passionate in front of their audience, the Franjiverdes improved their very good first weeks of competition by qualifying for the 1/8 finals of the Copa del Rey by beating Eibar away this week 0-1. On the previous day, Elche fell to Mallorca 3-1, a week after their peppy victory against Girona at home 3-0. 11th at the start of this day, Elche, on the other hand, has only won 2 of its last 10 matches in the league, 5 defeats. Opposite, there was no Copa del Rey on the program for Rayo Vallecano but a final league phase match of the Conference League against Drita, result to come.

In the league, the Madrid team suffers in silence having not won any of its last 6 matches. It all started on November 1 with a big defeat suffered away on the pitch at Villarreal 4-0. Subsequently, Rayo went on to share three points with Real Madrid 0-0, Real Oviedo 0-0 and Valencia at home 1-1 before losing again on the lawn of the Pericos of Espanyol Barcelona 1-0. Girona are 18th at the start of this day, under the threat of relegation but one victory away from being able to escape the red zone. With 15 points, only 11th, Elche, is mathematically impossible to catch up in a match. So there is no fire in the lake, especially since things finally seem to be going better in the game for the Blanquivermells who have just won away on the pitch of Real Sociedad 1-2. Before this victory, the Catalans suffered a heavy disappointment against Elche 3-0. This setback followed 2 draws against Real Madrid 1-1 and on the Bétis field 1-1.  On the other side of the median, Atlético Madrid lost big in the space of a week with defeats suffered on the pitches of Camp Nou against Barcelona 3-1 and San Mamés de Bilbao 1-0.

The Colchoneros are now 9 lengths behind the Blaugrana at the top of the standings. It's all the more a shame for Atlético Madrid who had achieved a great series of 7 victories in a row in all competitions. Last weekend, to avoid a third disappointment, the Madrilenians beat Valencia at the Metropolitano 2-1. This week, it was to the Balearic Islands that Antoine Griezmann's partners went to challenge Atletico Baleares in the Copa del Rey. This Villarreal team needs to confirm that they are among the title candidates this season. 3rd with a day behind Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, the Yellow Submarine could come back to 5 points behind Barça in the event of success today, and possibly to 2 points in the event of success during the first day. The stakes are therefore very high for Marcelino's men who have just experienced real disillusionment in the Copa del Rey where they were knocked out by Racing Santander, current leader of the Liga Hypermotion 2-1. A defeat that comes at a rather bad time since Villarreal wanted to move forward after their home defeat against Copenhagen in the Champions League 2-3, which practically earned them elimination from the most prestigious of European competitions. Deprived of La Liga last weekend following the postponement of the planned trip against Levante due to weather conditions, Villarreal will therefore welcome Barça having been victorious in their last six matches in the elite. FC Barcelona was also traveling in the 1/16th final of the Copa del Rey during the week and won against Guadalaraja 0-2.

The decision was made in the last quarter of an hour of play, through Andreas Christensen and Marcus Rashford. Thanks to this victory, the Blaugrana recorded a 6th victory in a row in all competitions, in La Liga against Osasuna last weekend 2-0, Bétis 3-5, Atlético Madrid 3-1 and Alaves with the same score 3-1 and in the Champions League against Frankfurt 2-1. The last defeat dates back to the trip to Chelsea in the Champions League 3-0. In La Liga, the Culers are leaders with 4 points ahead of Real Madrid at the start of this day.

Often considered one of the major nations in African football, Egypt has however not won the African Cup of Nations since the 2010 edition. An eternity for this team which will be expected at a much better level than in 2023 when it was eliminated in the 1/8 finals. The Pharaohs had no problem qualifying for this 2025 edition by finishing at the top of their group ahead of Botswana, Mauritania and Cape Verde. They then finished as leader of their World Cup qualifiers ahead of Bukina Faso, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia and Djibouti to validate their ticket to America. If the Egyptians had not shone during their last international gathering by losing to Uzbekistan 2-0 then being held in check by Cape Verde 1-1 during 2 friendly matches, they won their final preparation match on Tuesday at home against a diminished Nigeria 2-1. Zimbabwe, for its part, is far from being a reference on a continental scale and even less globally.

Indeed, this selection has never played in the slightest World Cup and it has also not made it past the group stage during its first 5 participations in an African Cup of Nations. To reach this 2025 edition, Michael Nees' men took 2nd place in their group behind Cameroon but ahead of Kenya and Namibia. The Warriors, on the other hand, experienced a nightmare during their qualifiers for the World Cup, finishing last in their group behind South Africa, Nigeria, Benin, Lesotho and Rwanda, without the slightest victory on the clock after 10 matches. Last month, the 129th nation in the FIFA rankings lost in a friendly against Algeria 3-1 but found a smile again a few days later by defeating Qatar 1-2.

Mali has a history of quality at the heart of this African Cup of Nations, having reached the last four 6 times in its history. Exited from the tournament in the groups in 2015 and 2017, Mali reached the round of 16 stage during the last two editions and will, of course, try to take a step forward by reaching the quarter-finals. This Malian selection, however, experienced a real disappointment during the World Cup qualifiers, finishing 3rd with 18 points, 1 point behind Madagascar and quite far from Ghana (25 points). Winner of the CAN in 2012, Zambia built on years of good performances, notably at the end of the 90s without ever managing to win it. From now on, we must find consistency for the Zambians who have not passed the group stages since this coronation in 2012.

Worse still, during the 2017, 2019 and 2021 editions, Zambia did not even manage to qualify to participate in the competition. Like Mali, the Chipolopolo did not obtain their ticket for the World Cup, finishing only fourth in their group, far behind Niger and Morocco. On Tuesday, the Zambians were defeated in a preparation friendly played in Spain against the DRC 2-0.

Semi-finalist of the last edition of this CAN 2 years ago, South Africa ended up taking 3rd place at the end of the small final after its victory on penalties against the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since then, the 61st nation in the FIFA rankings qualified quite easily for this CAN by finishing first in its group ahead of Uganda, Congo and South Sudan. They then won their ticket for the next World Cup by beating Nigeria, Benin, Lesotho, Rwanda and Zimbabwe, notably with a final big success against Rwanda 3-0. Last month, Bafana Bafana gained confidence by beating Zambia in a 3-1 friendly match. Unlike its opponent of the day, Angola will not play in the next World Cup.

On the other hand, the 89th nation in the world distinguished itself by taking 1st place in its qualifiers for this CAN ahead of Sudan, Niger and Ghana. Winner of the African Cup of Nations three times in its history (1980, 1994 and 2013), Nigeria is a leader of the Continent. During the last edition played in 2023, this juggernaut had a very good run but fell in the final against the organizing country, Cote d'Ivoire 1-2. In order to qualify for this CAN 2025, the Super Eagles enforced the hierarchy to take 1st place in Group D, ahead of Benin, Rwanda and Libya. On the other hand, they experienced great disillusionment last November. Forced to go through the qualifying play-offs for the 2026 World Cup, Nigeria first dominated Gabon 4-1 after extra time before seeing its World Cup dreams disappear against the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-1, elimination following penalties. On Tuesday, Nigeria played and lost a friendly match in Egypt 2-1 but the Eagles were diminished. Not really used to shining on the international scene, Tanzania will only play the 4th African Cup of Nations in its history after 1980, 2019 and 2023.

It has not yet won a single match in this competition. During the qualifications for this 2025 edition, the Taifa Stars finished in 2nd place in their group, behind the Democratic Republic of Congo. They made the difference during the last two days with successes against Ethiopia 0-2 and Guinea 1-0. Engaged in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup subsequently, Tanzania did not create the feat and was beaten by Morocco and Niger in group E. The selection will therefore not play the first World Cup in its history. Last November, Tanzania lost two hard-fought friendly matches against Iran 2-0 and Kuwait 4-3.
