Match Preview

Armenia host Cyprus at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan on Thursday 12 November 2026 (21:00 local time) in a UEFA Nations League 2026/27 League C Group 2 clash with real stakes for both nations. With two matchdays remaining, Cyprus sit second in the group on seven points while Armenia are third on four, so a home victory would drag Yeghishe Melikyan's side level with Akis Mantzios' men and turn the final round into a genuine promotion shoot-out. Armenia's autumn has been a mixed bag: an opening 2-0 win over Latvia was followed by a 2-3 home defeat to Montenegro despite goals from Artur Serobyan and Eduard Spertsyan, a 2-0 reverse in Nicosia where Leonidas Konomis and Andronikos Kakoullis struck before half-time, and a resilient 0-0 draw in Podgorica that at least stopped the rot. Cyprus arrive in better heart after a stuttering start: beaten 2-1 in Montenegro and held 0-0 in Riga, they beat Armenia in Nicosia and then edged Latvia 2-1 at the GSP Stadium, with Marcus Edwards scoring the decisive goal in back-to-back wins. The caveat for the visitors is that both of those victories came at home — away from Nicosia they are winless and have scored just once in two group games.

The big team news of the international window is in Yerevan, where Armenia will be without captain and talisman Eduard Spertsyan, who has been ruled out through injury along with Henri Avagyan, Sergey Muradyan, Julio Bueno and Finn Geragusyan, while Vahan Bichakhchyan, Erik Simonyan and Kamo Hovhannisyan have only recently recovered and are not yet at full fitness. Melikyan has still named a deep 26-man squad for the final double-header: Ognjen Cancarevic (IMT Belgrade), Arsen Beglaryan, Alexander Mishiev and Gor Matinyan in goal; Artem Bandikyan, Erik Piloyan, Georgi Harutyunyan, Styopa Mkrtchyan (Nurnberg), Nair Tiknizyan (Olympiacos), Edgar Grigoryan, Arman Ghazaryan, Argishti Petrosyan and Khariton Ayvazyan across the back; Karlen Hovhannisyan, Ugochukwu Iwu (Rubin Kazan), Gor Manvelyan, Karen Muradyan, Karen Nalbandyan, Edgar Piloyan and Hovhannes Harutyunyan in midfield; and Artur Serobyan, Edgar Sevikyan (Ceuta), Narek Grigoryan (Farul), Narek Hovhannisyan (Lechia Gdansk), Artur Miranyan, Artur Gharibyan, Grant-Leon Ranos (Tenerife) and Zhirayr Shaghoyan in attack. Expect Beglaryan behind a back four of Bandikyan, Piloyan, Harutyunyan and Tiknizyan, with Iwu anchoring midfield and Serobyan leading the line; without Spertsyan's creativity, the set-piece delivery of Sevikyan and the direct running of Ranos become Armenia's most dangerous weapons, and the raucous Republican Stadium crowd must supply the energy their missing playmaker normally provides.

Cyprus, under Akis Mantzios since 2025, have named their squad for the Armenia and Montenegro double-header with a familiar spine: Joel Mall in goal behind a defence featuring Leonidas Konomis, Hector Kyprianou, Nikolas Panagiotou and Kostas Pileas; a midfield anchored by captain Grigoris Kastanos (Hellas Verona, 84 caps) with Paris Andreou and Loizos Loizou alongside him; and an attacking trio of Marcus Edwards, Andronikos Kakoullis and Ioannis Pittas, backed up by options including Andreas Paraskevas, Neofytos Michael, Andreas Shikkis, Antoni Neophytou, Charalampos Kyriakou, Ioannis Kosti, Giorgos Malekkides, Andreas Christou, Kostakis Artymatas, Marinos Tzionis, Evagoras Antoniou and Nick Tsaroulla. Kastanos remains the heartbeat of this side, Edwards has scored in two of their last three competitive matches, and Kakoullis already has this fixture on his CV after netting in the October meeting. However, Mantzios must solve his team's away-day puzzle: Cyprus have failed to win on the road in this campaign, managed just five shots on target combined in Riga and Podgorica, and their only away goal came in defeat. With the physically imposing Krstovic-free Armenian back line finally keeping a clean sheet in Montenegro, the visitors may struggle to replicate their GSP Stadium fluency on a cold November night at altitude-free but partisan Yerevan.

The European odds make Armenia favourites at around 2.20 for the home win, with the draw at 3.40 and Cyprus at 3.20, and the goal markets point to a tight, low-scoring contest — Under 2.5 goals is priced at 1.85 and Both Teams to Score No at 1.80, consistent with Armenia's grind-out draw in Podgorica and Cyprus's blank in Riga. That profile fits our prediction perfectly: Armenia need the three points more urgently, have the stronger home support, and are defensively settled after the October clean sheet, while Cyprus have shown little away from Nicosia and arrive with one eye on their decisive final group game. We like Armenia to win to nil at 3.40, Under 2.5 goals at 1.85 as a banker-style companion bet, and Artur Serobyan — already on the scoresheet against Montenegro and Latvia this autumn — as an anytime goalscorer shout. Our prediction: Armenia 2-0 Cyprus, available at around 9.00 in the correct score market, as Melikyan's depleted but motivated side avenge the Nicosia defeat and drag themselves level with Cyprus ahead of the final match
