Arsenal want to bring in a winger in January and Mudryk fits the bill perfectly. Also Joao Felix and Ferran Torres are top of the list in the transfer window.

Arsenal’s season so far…

The 22/23 season has been good for Arsenal so far. The team are currently sitting comfortably at the top of the table as the league is set to resume after the World Cup break. Arsenal have lost just one game so far this season, to Manchester United in September, but have gone on to win 12 of the 14 games played. They are currently 5 points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, and all eyes will remain on the team as the season resumes on Boxing Day.

There are a few issues that may face the team in the coming weeks and months, one of the most notable being the temporary loss of Jesus, as he undergoes rehabilitation for an injury to his knee ligaments. Like the rest of the teams in the Premier League, Arsenal will be looking to make a few crucial signings at the start of 2023, which we will take a closer look at below.

Who should the team sign?

The transfer window opens on the 1st of January, so fans’ eyes will be on who their favourite teams are going to sign. Whilst it’s all still speculative, and you never know what might happen – we’re going to take a look at some of the players that Arsenal have been linked with in the past few weeks and whether they’d be a good fit for the team.

Mykhaylo Mudryk

Mudryk currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk – a Ukrainian team that plays in the Ukrainian Premier League. The Ukrainian national plays as a winger and is said to be at the top of Arsenal’s list of players to sign in the coming months. The strong performances that he’s shown in games within the Champions League have turned heads across the world, with teams like Sevilla also taking an interest. Currently, it’s thought that Arsenal and Newcastle United are both interested in the Ukrainian, so we’ll have to keep an eye on the transfer window as it happens to see which offer is successful.

Joao Felix

The Portuguese star has been showing off his ability at the World Cup with his national team this year. The Athletico Madrid striker has turned heads with his performances, and none more so than those at Arsenal. There are a few reasons why fans think that he would be a perfect addition to the squad, one of which we’ve already touched on – the absence of Jesus. Felix would be almost guaranteed a starting spot in the squad and would allow the team to remain on top, and not let Jesus’ absence affect them. Another reason why Felix may be a good fit is that he can play a range of positions, giving the team variety rather than simply playing as a forward. He’s also been known to play as an attacking midfielder, and across the frontline – so even when Jesus is fit, he’ll still have a place in the squad.

Ferran Torres

Another striker that Arsenal may set their sights on is Ferran Torres. The Spaniard currently plays in the prestigious La Liga for Barcelona and could be the striker they need to remain on top throughout the season. Torres is said to be a more cost-effective option for the Gunners than the previous player, Mudryk who we were weighing up above. However, it might be more difficult than Arteta might have imagined, as Arsenal will face competition from fellow London club and arch-rivals Tottenham. Torres previously played for Man City before he moved back to play in La Liga, so both the team and fans can be reassured that he’ll be able to slot back into his premiership ways easily. The Spanish Striker is valued at around £30m, so could be a great pick for the Gunners this season.
